I loved that show. Saw every episode. I love Linda Lavin, especially. So glad she is still with us. I feel bad about the untimely deaths of many of the other cast members. R.I.P., you are not forgotten---nor is your wonderful work on this series. Glad we have you in reruns.....
Pollyanna Holliday is alive. Sad that Linda Laven stayed upset all the time and caused tension, becsuse Holliday was the favorite character an also won awards for her role. If you think about it,without Holliday it would have been so boring the show would have been short lived. A single mom with a kid, working in a diner which as part of her roll, she thought was beneath her, that she was better etc.Even if the writers thought it would connect with the times of divorce, single mothers, it showed her always stressing about the kid, money, while Flo was so believable in her role,( her childhood being on the road with her truck driving father helped a lot) a happy go lucky woman, independent, her job was ok with her,she met people, flirting just enough with the men to get a tip.Very good acting when she seemed as a waitress in real life. Even tho she was earning upward of one hundred thousand a month, she still lived frugal, as tho she was a waitress. Small apartment, rental furniture, used beat up car. She never changed her lifestyle, but she always had money when rent was due and food to eat when there was no work. Tho Polly did parts on other sitcoms, on Broadway, in movies she was always down to earth. I think living lavishly to her,was a place to live, a car to drive, food to eat,and know you have money in the bank.Enough to live on for a long time,as you continue doing some work and not be spending thousands on one outfit. Mel Kiss My Grits will always be her line!!
Linda Lavin was jealous because Polly Holliday (Flo) was more popular than her. Many loved Flo's boisterous personality and her catchphrase: "Kiss My Grits." Alice went downhill when Flo left.
Listening to the theme song made feel like I'm 8yrs old sitting on the living floor laying on my stomach stretched out on the floor in front of a big box TV UHF and VHF turning click turning nobs and rabbit ears.Nice times.Good to see some of these old characters still alive.Mel died many years ago.
This was one of my favorite shows in the 70s. Waiting for Flo to say "Kiss my grits" was right up there with waiting for Aunt Esther to say, "You ol' fish-eyed fool!" Good TV back then.
I admit that I am addicted to Alice. I watch it every night and even though the show wasn't the same after my Flo left. That didn't stop me from buying ALL 9 seasons on DVD.
Same here. The theme song (first season) is very nostalgic for me and puts me right back in 1976. When I heard the ending theme song with Linda scatting I knew it was bedtime. The first 3 seasons were great, the 4th was good, then the show started to go downhill after Flo left. The chemistry was not right with Diane Ladd (Belle). Jolene was somewhat better and had her funny moments. 9 years is a long run.
This was so wonderfully done thank you! I really liked that you included their last roles. I just happened to watch an episode a few days ago- the one that featured Desi Arnaz- and I had to find out whatever happened to Mel (Vic Tayback). And now I'm all caught up with the rest of the gang.

This show was one of my favorites as a very young kid. In the 70s the show was great ….1980 and afterwards it “jumped the shark“. One of the absolute best theme songs ever. The first season opening and closing theme were musically brilliant. The following seasons not so much. Linda Lavin is just fantastic.

My childhood! Thanks for posting. Reminds me of being back in elementary school seeing the intro to this show while doing homework. This show made me hungry all the time too because it seemed like they served good food. Loved hearing Flo tell Mel to kiss her grits. Flo reminded me of the white version of Florence from the Jeffersons who could tell their bosses off and get away with it. Both were sassy but always had their back. I was heart broken to hear about Phil's passing in 2019 which was the same year my sister died. I knew the guy that played Mel died so early and just found out about Belinda. I never knew about it. I love Alice Hyatt. I love Vera Louise Gorman. I love Florence Jean “Flo” Castleberry. I love Tommy Hyatt. And, I love Mel Sharples. Let’s face the facts together: Mel is the Big Kahuna! Without Mel Sharples, there would no Mel’s Diner and Alice would not be the iconic TV show it is today. 🤣 Let the fact sink in for a few moments... Without “frugal” Mel, we Alice fans know would it be impossible for Alice to be one of the most popular TV shows on CBS... EVER! 😎

🇮🇹 BELLISSIMA SIT-COM... LA VEDEVO AGLI INIZI DEGLI ANNI 80... ✋😜✋SALUTI DALLA PUGLIA
I love this show. That is right, the good old days for sure.
We're happy to know that you love Alice! Which cast member is your favorite?
Watch the old show every p.m. and STILL have a crush on Tommy! RIP😥
👀👀🤔 wow after all these years Alice looks better than ever may 😏God keep blessing her🤗❤❤😘😍
Lavin is rocking it as Norma on B Positive....one of the best parts of a great show
I remember seeing this in the 80's when I was little.
I love Alice Hyatt. I love Vera Louise Gorman. I love Florence Jean “Flo” Castleberry. I love Tommy Hyatt.
And, I love Mel Sharples.
Let’s face the facts together:
Mel is the Big Kahuna! Without Mel Sharples, there would no Mel’s Diner and Alice would not be the iconic TV show it is today. 🤣
Let the fact sink in for a few moments...
Without “frugal” Mel, we Alice fans know would it be impossible for Alice to be one of the most popular TV shows on CBS... EVER! 😎
It still a class act show! In 2021!!!
Vera was my favorite one hands down. And it really upset me when Phillip McKeon died, I had a crush on him on Alice. And it upset me when Beth died too. May they both rest in peace. 😭💔😔😢🙏
Loved this show. Rest in peace troopers!
Those were the days my friends.
Hard to believe Flo was only 39 in '76. I thought she was alot older even when I watched it as a 13 yr old.
Same here, pinkfreud62
@pinkfreud62. Did you see her picture now? She looks great at 84!!
she was no 39 when she started on that show! she looked about 50, imo.
@@No1KCfan6 She was born in 1937. The show started in 1976. That would have made her 39. And that's what I was saying. She looked alot older.
@@pinkfreud62 Just hard to believe she was 39, but if she was, she was.
To those who have parted us, I want to take this moment to say thank you very much for making us laugh when we were younger and when we needed it as well.
You will be missed but never forgotten by your "ALICE" fans very much.
Please enjoy this day to its max. ©®
