  • Ahoy hoy!
Today I get to talk about what has possibly been my favourite guitar - although of course it isn't perfect.... They never are.
We have seen various incarnations of this model already - with the V1 (badly painted multi colour guitar) and the V2 Holoflake - this is known as the V4 Deluxe model. There were still some bolt on neck guitars for the V4 - Baritones and a 7 string... but this was the absolute cream of the crop.
Genuinely top of the range guitars that should have sold for three or four times the price... but again, because of the name, they didn't...
A neck through body model with a decent Floyd Rose, excellent paint jobs and "high end" pickups.
Well, the pickups aren't - but that is unsurprising.
And that is where this gets interesting - I NEED YOUR HELP!
Seeing as I have 4 of these (yes I like them that much) How would you advise my next little project of rejuvenating one of these? Probably the Shoreline Gold model I have already removed the trem from.
Shall I have another go at making that job neater?
Which Pickups shall I replace it with? Soulful? High Output Metal ones?
    What colour Hardware?
I'd love to hear your ideas!
When I get time to do this project - I will keep you all posted week by week.
    It should be fun!
    Toodle Pip!

I picked up one of these today, it’s a shoreline gold v4 too. I’m tempted to see what it would look like with a pickguard on it as currently reminds me of any model Ibanez RG with a model number ending in “70”
Surely the obvious choice is some dimarzio pickups with push pull pots?

Nice - well done! How much did you get it for? I've been tempted to give the green metallic one a purple pickguard! If you look up the Kay "K45 - the Austin Hatchet Guitar" which I have hanging in my workshop they have DiMarzio "Powersound" pickups - really warm and growly with a massive output. If they had made them available to the public I would be all over them!

It was Kramer who had trademark for the Stagemaster name.
I own a NOS 1999 v1 HSH Stagemaster in Frost Red and an excellent condition 2001 v2 HH in Cobalt Blue. The poor man's HM Strat? Possibly, but a great value modding platform.
Fix the electronics on the Red Model and restore the Gold to having a double locking Trem again

Ahhhhh - hmmm. I do have two of the Golds - one which remain with the Floyd and the other... well, let's just say it is waiting for warmer weather for me to get round to finishing updating it. I have made some heroic and possibly controversial decisions on it!

I've got the gold one and I love it. Totally stock and in mint condition. I kept the original humbuckers, they are a bit dark/mid rangey but that kinda works with gainy tones. I added coil split on pull pots for brighter clean tones, to keep the stock appearance.
If you are gonna mess around with one of those beauties, use the gold one as it's already screwed up a bit. Would be interesting to see how they sound with emg's or SD's but maybe get a proper trem back on it? I like the neck and the body weight.

I just got me a red one like this. Lets hope it arrives to me in one piece. So i have the Blue metallic one, the gold one and now the red one. Then ive a few other show masters including the pink 20th anniversary one. Excited to get this red one, gorgeous colour. I do love the gold one as well 😍. By the way i heard it was Kramer who enforced the ownership of the Stagemaster name.

These guitars are sick. I got a v4, Atlantic Blue Metallic when they were discontinued back in 2002. Sweet deal at the guitar center list sale for $200 new. Shortly after, I put in an EMG 85 in the bridge, and removed the neck pickup.
It was the first brand new electric guitar I bought with my own earned money. Still love it 20yrs later.
I like that these were a departure from what you regularly see from Fender/Squire. I picked up a FMT HH Telecaster for the same reason; a set neck, carved maple top Telecaster. Something totally different from the "norm"...I put an EMG Kerry King 81/85 set in that one
Those are my favorite guitars 🤘🏾

Kerry King EMGs? Fantastic idea. I love it. I've always liked that Slayer, massively overdriven sound, perhaps I ought to give active. pickups a go.... We shall see!

By the way, I plan on putting in some Wilkinson high output ceramic humbucker in the bridge and a low output alnico in the neck. Middle pickup could be a vintage or low output single coil from Wilkinson as well. From what I've seen on forums and videos, the Floyd Rose unit is fairly stable and does not need a replacement. Looking at about $50 worth of investment and I may just get it for a trade, plus $100.

    Great video, thanks for sharing.
Does anyone who has one think the neck gets the dreaded "sticky" feel from the glossy paint? I have my eye on one very similar to the last he showed, but I am a bit put off by the sticky neck syndrome and thicker neck due to paint job as he mentioned in the video. It is HSH just like the video.

You got enough donor guitars for parts, I'm surprised you haven't decided to build a guitar for The Great Guitar Build Off that's gearing up for 2021.

If you wanna get weird........ put a humbucker-size, telecaster-style metal mounting ring around the bridge humbucker in the red or green stagemaster so it still fits with the floyd rose. You can find them online, stewmac etc. A metal plate or ring should concentrate the magnetic field giving some telecaster-y treble and bite while still being a humbucker AND having the floyd rose. That's a practically NEVER-seen never-heard configuration! Maybe find a cool pickguard for the red one

An interesting idea... I do have two of the gold ones. One is stock, the other - well it is partly finished in the (very very cold) workshop. The top has been sanded off the floyd hole filled in and flattened. I'm waiting for warmer weather to do some painting - do subscribe so you can see what I get up to with it (oh, the pickups are purchased already...) - Coming this summer!

Great video so cool that you have all these neck thrus. I have the atlantic blue metallic neck thru. Do all 3 of yours feel the same in the neck shape to you? 3 down, 3 to go!! (atlantic blue / pewter grey / black) \m/

    • @SadFernandoGuitars
      @SadFernandoGuitars  2 роки тому +1

Nice! Yes, they all seem to have the same neck profile - quite individual for a Squier - as it is notably thicker than normal. I think this is (at least in part) due to the incredibly thick paint job! With my present collection - I don't think I will be trying to get the others in the range... Although... never say never...

I vote for the gold and another attempt at the set bridge along with a change of pickups. Preferably Les Paul like.

    • @SadFernandoGuitars
      @SadFernandoGuitars  3 роки тому

Noted! Any ideas on type of bridge or colour of pickups?

@@SadFernandoGuitars black pickups might pop more so than silver or gold. I'm basing this on the black bridge that is there right now. As far as a bridge,, I have to defer to your discretion. Maybe Hipshot or Gotoh hard Tails. I don't know
