Chris Shiflett became one of my guitar heroes when he was playing guitar for No Use For A Name. I've loved hearing him play ever since. #NeverForgetTonySly #RIPTaylorHawkins
Everyone in the Foo Fighters seems to be a great dude.. They are a Great Rock and Roll band too. I don't buy their music and I only like two of their songs but they deserve everything they get. They bring joy to the people that love them and it looks like they enjoy what they do...God Bless
Being nice guys, especially Dave, is probably one of their key assets. I'm a fan since the early 2000s (sorry, too young for taste in rock music at the age of 10-12 when they started out) but you just can't hate them. Even though - admittedly - their late records weren't all great. Anyway, they are down to earth, still a great live band, and just love rock music as we do.
Thumbs up for showing Bad Religion love and respect. Yeah my guitar playing changed too when I first heard them too in the early 90's. Discovering them and Bob Mould are probably my two biggest reevaluating how I play guitar moments in my life!
His guitar tone is fantastic and the sound quality on this video is great. A pleasure to listen to. Thumbs up! Not to mention Chris is a great guitar player and he can play different styles perfectly.
Loved this. Brought me back to my childhood. I remember seeing Rainbow in 1981 at the Calgary Saddledome as part of a stopover while bussing and hitchhiking across Canada. Made in Japan was the first album that I bought with my allowance! lol
Bad Religion ... that was a great choice. Loved the Dead Peasants records as well, shows a lot of versatility from a really good player. Can’t wait to see you back on the road!
Love ya Chris. I know you are recording in Nashville, I now live 90 miles west of there. But I grew up in Memphis. With your skill on your guitar you could play Some wicked blues. I would love to hear that. Wishing you all the best. Peace ❤😊
1. Shattered by the Rolling Stones 2. Detroit Rock City by KISS (not The Police as initially listed :) 3. Long LIve Rock 'n Roll by Rainbow 4. You Are The Government by Bad Religion 5. The Bottle Let Me Down by Merle Haggard
HAH - thanks for pointing that out! Have been revisiting the Police lately but that's no excuse. And this after I saw KISS in concert last February! Must be losing it - last week I started out a note to "Peter" when the guy's name is Lloyd. Still don't know where I came up with Peter!
I have an all white one from the first fender run and I really love it. It's my go to gigging guitar. If you can get out to play one in a store then do it, but you'll be coming away with a few less coins in your pocket!
It’s a trip. A lot of his trajectory is the same as mine in what I was digging on guitar, except for huge Metallica worship in the 80’s. I was born in 70 so might be close to his age? The Foo’s are a quandry to me. I have so much in common with what they grew up playing and liking but feel their music is incredibly light weight and “safe”. I can’t get into it at all. I actually like some of Hawkins solo stuff better as it has this weird factor that I like a lot. Range Rover Bitch is a modern classic and he nails the 70’s vibe in the video’s.
Skoora I totally with your. Considering their influences and pedigree I just want better out of them. Like I want to love them but they are just watery.
That’s always John Mayer to me (and Kanye West, but obviously that’s a whole different ball of wax). Always weird that someone can be such a talented musician, and have such similar taste in music to me, but their music can just leave me flat.
Yakson Yaksoff so John Mayer just irks the shit out of me. Lol. I hate when I tell people I’m not a fan and they are well have you heard blah blah blah? No. And I don’t care to. Is he talented? I suppose so but so are half the kids working at Guitar Center and I don’t want to hear them noodle away either. Kanye on the other hand I am a fan. But since Life of Pablo and his recent actions I’m kind of good. He’s ground breaking and boundary pushing and all that but I feel after certain age he just kind of stopped being so. Hip Hop I feel has an ever shorter shelf life than rock or metal. It’s hard to relative after 40 in rap. It’s also the only genre that new musicians don’t look too far back. If you play rock now you know who Zeppelin and Sabbath are and if you’re a young rapper now chances you know who Kool Herc is very slim.
The audio on the guitar is awful. But I still liked this video. Love the Foos and love Shiftlett, not just from FF but from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes!
It's a customshop guitar, maybe even a one off made for him. I remember a video of him talking about how he wanted something vintage looking with P90's yet to have it play and feel the same as his Signature models he's using with Foo Fighters. There are easier ways for us normal ppl to get the 'Tele with P90's' thing. Get a Modern Player Thinline Tele; semi hollow and maple fretboard. Get his Signature model and replace the pickups for Seymour Duncan Phatcats or Gibson P94 pickups. Or do the same with one of those current USA Teles that look like those 70's Deluxes because they have normal sized humbuckers aswell. Or you could try to find a Tele Classic Player Deluxe with Black Dove pickups on Reverb. I think Fender did something else too that was a FSR limited run of Teles with P90's but I forgot what they are called.
When you see a Foo Fighters Interview everyone always says that a certain then mentioned is their fav Artist of all time. Its pretty funny when you watch a few Interviews of them...
He’s there for the cash I’m sure ,won’t admit it but I’m sure they all are, bands don’t get really big anymore and though I love the foos they’ve become stale..last good album is 2011’s wasting light…..the new dee gees stuff they covering seems kinda cool..but I’m sure they all are just staying to build their wealth ,cause one day it will over for them.

Hey Chris. Quit your side band and get your butt back to Dave so you don't get kicked out of or break up FF. Its all cool bro. Youre drunk and talking too much. I have been a fan for 25 years, I practiced next door to Dave when he was just a drummer in Nirvana at NAF in W Seattle and Im telling you to go home and rejoin the family NOW for the 1 million of us. Don't let us down
And while your at it tell Dave to tone it down on the booze too. You are potentially the greatest band of all time. Don't implode like some kind of Spinal Tap bullshit. Follow the formula. I’ve never heard this guy talk before. Well I have. He’s pretty quiet in Foo interviews. He can sure play that axe!
Listen to Long Road to Ruin and Rope by the Foos, unreal solos by Shifty
No Use for a Name was his best work!
Tony Sly never forget
And Me First and The Gimme Gimmes.
More Betterness. Best album / guitar tone, ever.
100% ❤
Very under rated guitar player and artist
I agree 👍
Thumbs up for showing Bad Religion love and respect. Yeah my guitar playing changed too when I first heard them too in the early 90's. Discovering them and Bob Mould are probably my two biggest reevaluating how I play guitar moments in my life!
Just the fact that he included Blackmore (my first guitar heroe) and Bad Religion made me respect him even more! Nice list man!
A very precise and skilled guitarist.
His guitar tone is fantastic and the sound quality on this video is great. A pleasure to listen to. Thumbs up!
Not to mention Chris is a great guitar player and he can play different styles perfectly.
Very cool.
Thank you for sharing.
Espectacular Chris Shiflett👌
I love this man. Thanks for this, y'all! 🤘🤘🤘

I wore out my cassette copy of "Some Girls" playing "Shattered" on repeat.
Let’s see if I can remember: *continues to completely nail solo*
Chris Shiflett is the dude! Great guitar player, good attitude. Serious talent.
Omg Rainbow, i was so into them as a 13 year old in the UK, had forgotten all about them, going to give them a listen again
So glad I found this. Been meaning to hear Chris talking about his likes. Brilliant. Thank you.
He's so underrated
Thanks Chris (& Guitar Player)! Great riffing and soloing.
His brother is the bass player for Face to Face, bad ass family.
Brian Wilner and guitarist in me first and the grimme gimmes

Dang, This is my favorite one.
Those p90s sound excellent

Great player. Covid watching in Hawaii 2/24/21😷🤙🏼
Great to see that he's a big Blackmore and Dio fan :) excellent choice!
Yeah you'd think a foo's riff would deffo be one that changed his life!
Stereotypical California cool and that’s a good thing. Seems like a humble, laid back dude.
He just stole my heart with the Rainbow riff! I would have prefered Kill the King! 🤘🏼♥️🤘🏼
Wow!
Chris, I hear you.
1. Shattered by the Rolling Stones
2. Detroit Rock City by KISS (not The Police as initially listed :)
3. Long LIve Rock 'n Roll by Rainbow

“Suffer” and “Rock N Roll Nightmare” pretty much gave birth to the 90s Epitaph/Fat sound.
Can we get a My Life in Five Riffs with Bryan Sutton?
And Billy Strings, Julian Lage, Chris Eldridge, Molly Tuttle, Sierra Hull, Sarah Jarosz?
Merle Haggard; hell yeah.
NUFAN 😍
Don't forget "coming to close" NUFAN
Thinking about pulling the trigger on one of those signature Telecasters. Anyone have one?

Can you film this again with a sober cameraman please?
He should see if Charlie Starr could come out and play that last one with him
The camera work is making me sea sick, jesus...
yes! what the fuck did the man think? "let's make it cooler just moving the shit out of the camera while this dude talks nonsense about riffs!"
It’s distracting as hell
Right.... "Alright, let's take the shot from the viewpoint of a guy who had no breakfast then drank fifteen beers on a fishing boat with his buddies."
Jesus Christ, commenting for the same thing. I closed my eyes because it was making me feel sick.
Ahhh all you guys just don't get the artistic nuance involved! 😉 Lol
Great video! I still can't wrap my head around that a professional guitar player actually likes KISS. Blows me away.
Kiss inspired so many players from Metallica to foo fighters
You should see John 5 huge KISS fanboy and there's plenty of guitarist that do list Ace Frehley as an influence and their love for KISS.
Blows me away one would even think this
Were the camera guys standing on a water bed or something? WTF 🥴

Did the cameraman have a fuckin seizure during the making of this?
When you think about it, Foo Fighters is basically a super group
great interview with Chris and nice chord reviews, but the camera guy needs to go to rehab - can't work effectively and be drunk at the same time.
