Agufish I may buy this guitar
Agufish its a fun movie. Not great and not bad either. Its waaay better than last Jedi
Agufish you need to start a metalcore band
Agufish that was awesome
Budget guitars keep getting better these days
Matthew Lillis that’s where the market is these days
I just picked up this guitar for $250 on sale original price $400 @ guitar center I have to say with 30 years of playing experience this guitar is better than most high end guitars that cost 5 times the price one con is the fretboard needs some work but nothing major..
@@Ken-yg4um what guitar is it
@@Max-dr6rz fender squier contemporary active
@@Ken-yg4um dude what a bargain
Squier is getting better and better, so does Epiphone.
So Myung Jung Agreed. I picked up a couple of Squiers a week or so ago and noodled around on them. Their quality has improved light years in the past decade or so. They’re at about the same level Fender’s Mexican stuff was around 2002.
So does PRS SE.
The first Squiers ever made were some of the best guitars made back in 1982.
Absolutely
Malcolm Hardwick Those Japanese models are really good, but I was referring to the Chinese/Indonesian made ones having come a long way.
Squier dares to experiment with guitars a lot more than Fender does. Maybe they're budget guitars but are perfect for modding and creating some wild axes. The contemporary series is awesome, maybe they all require some modding before rising up to their potential but by mere aesthetic value they're already collection items.
Very true
I don't need it I don't need it I don't need it...
-T-X-M- Nooooooooo!!!!!
-T-X-M- but but....
Dude it's $400 buy it
I NEEEDDDDD ITTTTTT
But you're gonna get it! I just picked one up new in the box for $245 shipped to my door. Deals are out there. Set a search for one in your Reverb feed and be patient. Also don't forget to use the Reverb [Make an Offer] button.
Sounds pretty damn heavy. These actives have a very thick Blackout-ish sound. Tempting as hell...
Could be the same pickups
Dainius Vyšniauskas they’re not.
I was thinking they are probably Squier branded Duncan Designed HB105s. I like them.
Quite surprising that i actually like the squier pickups more, the emgs sound a bit scratchy, the pick scraping sounds are very annoying to my ears, whereas the squier ones dont have the noise but just a little less attack than the emg
ky99999999 Thank you, I finally understand the concept of "attack" in regards to pickup tones!!!
I concur
I use a metal guitar pick so note attack has never been a problem for me
I love the pick scraping on the tracks. I always found that to be a cool sound
It's becoming harder and harder to deny Squire's "bang for the buck" approach. Yeah it's not a Fender but should that really be a factor?
Scott Stevenson Pickups? Guitar? Metal is metal :) I like chugging riffs on my Cort X1 with standard powersound humbuckers, and it's a joy :)
Perzactly my point.
No it shouldn’t. Hence why Gibson is going bankrupt. Paying for the name just doesn’t get the job done anymore
it almost seems like the guitar "market" is going the same way as the auto industry in the late 80"s/early 90"s? alot of lower priced imports with quality on par or above their american competitors. its only a matter of time before 1500$ guitars are being produced in korea or indonesia. personally, i cant wait! more power to the consumer!
@@jamiestotz7315 Korea is the new Japan atm. Japan used to be a second class manufacturer behind the US and they're no more. Korea's going that way I believe
I’ve just discovered this guitar! After looking for a Jim Root strat, and the Squier models, I magically stumbled across this gym, which is almost like hidden treasure, because I’ve never heard of it, 2 years after its release. It will be my next guitar. As a guitar player on a budget, I usually buy a guitar and then save up to replace the hardware. This guitar needs very few mods
Can't lie soon as I saw it I thought.. Jim Root.
I was thinking that too... But then again I have the Fender Jim Root tele... But I think it could be cool to have the floyd rose instead of the hipshot bridge that's on Root's guitars.
And they just released a contemporary active Jazzmaster too
Why would you lie
Austin Matthias jim doesn’t have a hipshot on either of his guitars.
@@Antimedal I didn't even realize the Root guitars had Hipshot bridges. OK, maybe I do need one...
This dude’s riffs make me moist.
Moister than an oyster?
If you are a guy, urinary incontinence is a serious issue. See your Dr. now
dirkbonesteel I did. He told me to go fuck myself so now I don’t know what to do
Sounds like a personal problem
Ew
The EMG81 didn't sound that different to the Squier bridge pickup, to my ears
But there was a definite disparity in brightness between the 60 and the Squier neck pickup
Still, despite not being my style, I have to give Fender a lot of respect for making a modern super strat this good...and not squeezing into the Mexican range
James Alexander, your commemt sums up my thoughts perfectly.
Exactly, im a heavy ltd and have emg 81/85s on a few but this weird thing surprised me. I dont like fenders for some biased ass reason but this babys in my room rn haha
At least your honest! I don't care what brands anyone plays .. hell it could be a stick with a string ... this dude made a 400 dollar guitar sound like a pro! LOL! By the way I am no pro!! I have the black one. It's long been gutted lol!! tex-mex in it Now LOL! I know WEird!! Keep on jammin man!!
Stratocaster with a reverse head and floyd rose, I can only name Michiya Haruhata’s signature model from Fender, but it’s expensive. Didn’t expect Squier will make such combination budget guitar! Great job.
So, let me get this straight...Simon likes smooth wood???
I received two of these a couple weeks ago. And didn't want to comment on them until I worked them hard. Nice workmanship, I just adjusted the truss rod and let the Floyd acclimate and stretch the springs. Finally locked the nut plugged it into my Marshall 20 DSL and Evh 2x12 no pedals. Holy smokes! I'm impressed, yes I realize it's a squire, yes the pick ups aren't emgs but this thing rocks, the clean tones are (I play funk) also are great. The dirty channel Wow!! I played the Hendrix strat and it couldn't rock like this beast. I got two of them because I know these are going to go fast. I have real Stratocasters, PRS, etc but this is fun to play! I've done 5 gigs with these babies, from country to metal. If you can't get a good sound out this guitar then you better start looking to play another instrument. Peace
This Squire is like the results of a heavy metal guy from the early 90's modifying his Stratocaster with the differences being a poplar body instead of alder and Squire branded pickups rather than EMG's. The difference in the sounds between the ESP and this Squire is close enough for me to think that Squire have emulated the EMG sound quite well. It is close enough to be explained by the difference in body woods, construction and string type.
Metal!!! Great video as always man.
hey Nick. come here often :P ttyl
Nick in the States i like it and check out the neck lol
But can it compete with Harley Bentons price?
Hello ,i'm a big fan of stratocaster ,i have many models (fender, squier, vintage guitar brand ,home made..) ,I will say only one thing about this guitar: I want it !!!!! il love this reverse headstock with matching color body ,the sound is awesome ! I do not feel that we need to change the pickups but if this guitar change the pickups ,put an 89 and 81TW EMG pickups with push pull pot for single pickup sound and with these modifications the guitar is perfect for me ! thanks for your video ,take care !
I snagged one of these when it was half off at GC ($200). So glad I got it. It’s a great twist on an iconic guitar.
Did you get the Floyd rose one if so how is it?
@@BOBAFETT25882 I did. I had never had a Floyd rose before so it took some learning and getting used to. But you really have to pick a tuning and keep it cuz retuning is a process. I don’t regret getting it though. The active pickups are really good too.
Great vid, it's nice to see an honest demo and not a review/commercial that most other channel's are doing....... you know the ones.
Intergrity fo DAAAAAAYS!!!
Seriously though... is Squier not KILLING it right now???
Ive been highly impressed with their products. For years, really, but especially now.
great vid! I like the looks and the concept of the Squier Contemporary series more than actual guitars themselves. I've played a number of them and they are hit and miss in build quality. But hey that's just me and I'm Canadian EH
Yeah, same experience for me. Going through the local L&M there were a lot of differences from guitar to guitar. Same with most Squires.
I tried a Candy Apple Tele that had a bulging skunk stripe on the back of the neck. it was pretty bad. :)
I would never online order a Squier for that kind of reason - but there are some gems if you can lay your hands on enough of them.
Ben Sinner how the hell did you come up with that?
Sashin Gopaul national geographic
The Squire set sounds similar to Seymour Duncan Blackouts. I dig those pickups.
Great riffage.
I love Squire. Bought a $150 affinity and made it my franken-strat, SD Hotrails in the neck and a glorious SD57 in the bridge. Not a single other change, got it in D standard and it's a beast!
I've owned this guitar for 5 years now and it has been my favorite guitar (besides my PRS). The best budget friendly guitar out there
Love the demo mix at the beginning! Awesome guitar!
Love the reverse headstock! Looks so wrong.....yet SOOO right! Sounds pretty good too
for the cost with the squier branded active pickups sounds pretty good.
We want EC Black Metal!
yeah we do!!
Goes on my "when I've got the loose $400" to-buy list.
Man I wish there were more videos of these guitars. Id love to see one modded to the extreme. Real floyd, emgs, anything else you can consider. Theres only a few videos featuring this guitar out there and I've seen them all. Keep rewatching 😂
Do you think this would be a good buy for someone who wants a Floyd rose guitar
Thanks for this. Seriously - I’ve been thinking about grabbing one. You’re the man!
emgs are tighter but those pickups arent too bad
Random Songs blackouts are better still
Random Songs to be honest all active pickups, EMG or not sound exactly the same to me. Especially on high gain.
Just got some blackouts and they are amazing
Mandarin I’m glad I’m not the only one😂😂
Emg retroactives are very different from your typical actives
I love mine I'm putting a carbon fiber pickguard and Seymour Duncan pickups that's all it needs
Can't u play 80's riffing on that guitar?that guitar screaming shred solo from the 80's...
This guitar screams BARK AT THE MOON
Erlik Quadros right on bro...only jake e.lee does'nt use this...
Ganing Daim White strat w. black pickguard = Jake. Floyd is for us mere mortals. Hahaha
@@erlikquadros5873 It's more Adrian Smith.
@@ZiddersRooFurry I bought it for that.
02:19 What an awesome riff man
Guitar Express NUT
Que haces aquí tío express
It bugs me that Squier/Fender don't have the decency to make a contoured heel on a "contemporary" guitar.
Yeah, it does have a budget Charvel kinda vibe though. It would have been nice to have the body thinning around the neck plate like a Jackson or early Ibanez
Yeah my Roadhouse Deluxe has the contoured heel. It is a nice feature.
Well its budget and since theyre already tooled for more traditional squiers it would probably add more to the cost that they didnt want
Eh, maybe, but if they were going to watch the budget by using as much of the stuff they're already doing it would've made more sense to have a standard headstock and contoured heel
jubjub f
The profit from making it a standard feature on a series would probably outweigh it. I know I would buy Squier if they made contoured heels, 22 frets and 2 point trems the norm, but so far the only ones to approach that form are Ibanez and LTD (consistently at low prices, that is).
Honestly, those Squier pickups sound pretty damn good.
This will be my next guitar. I personally thought it sounded better than the emg's on the eclipse. Thank you for the review. Very insightful man!!
I got very strong trivium- strife vibes here
I bought myself Squier 70s Classic Vibe Stratocaster, I couldn't find this anymore near me. I would love to play that floyd rose.
Great job. Amazing how close the pickups sound to emg’s. About 99%. In my opinion the squire active sound better than the emg while playing clean. When overdriven the EMGs edge out though. Sounds like an impressive guitar
Fishmans on this guitar plus a legit Floyd and its gonna be amazing
I own one and the Floyd rose it’s comes with is the exact same thing as legit one, holds tune extremely well if setup properly.
I own one too and to be honest the factory pickups are amazing, i don't think it's necessary at all to change them for emg or others. Use that money on better equipment or pc plugins instead, like the neural dsp ones (the plini one is lit 👌)
I too love moving my volume knob farther away from the standard location.
Dude first of all you Rock, Second get rid of that Esp the Squier sounds way better...lol..
Got this gem @ guitar center in Las Vegas 1 week ago on sale for $250 this thing is pure metal black chrome hardware is like hematite and the classic Olympic white w/ reverse head stock Awesome ...
I just can't belive that i saw comments on peach guitars about this guitar callin' it bullshit, i think it's a really great guitar.
Wow i really like the sound of he Squier Active Pickups
It’s very cool that they lowered the volume knob, when my right hand is in attack mode it slowly turns the volume down. Very cool adjustment
You must teach Simon to do Floyd tricks. Hit a 5th fret harmonic, pull up, wiggle, ect.
this is the chapman ml2 song isnt it? lol
also, set up your eclipse :D
hahaha thank you :)
It brings me great joy to witness you & a strat! Now I want one of those, I’ve always loved KK Downing of J Priest reverse headstock strat! I know your a Les Paul guy, & I respect your honest evaluations of these guitars. I’m a 56 year old man with a collection of about 30 guitars. I have some great axes that I scored for almost nothing, & you review lots of cost effective six string joy bringers. I appreciate what you do, I don’t care if your a kid, your right on target
Definitely one of the best opening songs I’ve seen on this channel. Props dude.
Add 100$/€ to this Squier Contemporary strat that you can buy today (pink or green ones) and you can buy the Jackson SDX Adrian Smith Signature strat instead, very similar to this but has a much nicer 12-16” Compound maple neck, so more spice at lower frets where you mostly play chords and faster higher frets where you mostly play solos. Well worth 100€$ to get that jackson strat instead of this squier :P
My compliments about the breakdown man. That was br00tal.
I grew up with strat style guitars and have played strats, i try other styles but i keep going to the strats.
This guitar is really awesome, I have just deal one in marketplace. For me the best in a guitar should be the neck, when feel comfortable with, the rest you can upgrade. In the case of this piece of wonder you don’t need to upgrade anything and the neck is perfect to my hands.
Thank you for the tip mate, I watched it here before having it and no regret at all!
I feel like they were being intentionally ironic slapping a big old "SQUIER" logo on those beastly pups! Active, in-house, wow!
When I heard the clean opening of The Promise, I immediately thought to myself "Chapman ML2". This made me think you'd like that guitar a lot.
Great review! I’ve been planning and looking forward to getting this guitar and it’s nice to see and hear a thorough review!
Great video as usual Hunter and I loved that you played a solo! Keep it up man you are getting better and better each video. Very creative riffage God bless bro!
Love the editing, definitely one of the best out there
Uhhh you should mod this one in the future. Fishman fluence modern, original Floyd rose, hipshot locking tunners and voila! A killer machine
Best quality special bridge I've come across by far
I feel like I would buy this guitar A) because that white on black is awesome and B) as a guitar to use to get acquainted with a Floyd rose and active pickups. I've always avoided guitars with Floyd's cause they seem tedious to me. Always wanted to explore active pickups though
The Hank Rots Project Once you get over the learning curve with Floyd's they're ok. Just don't be changing your tuning every other song :)
Funky Monkey1886 lol that's why I have multiple guitars for multiple tunings lol
The Hank Rots Project That's cool. What I meant was using different tuning on a FR guitar is a pain in the ass because you have to re balance it every time.
Have this guitar in white because I wanted a Locking Trem. system but more traditional / contemporary style, Love the matching reverse headstock with right facing decal!
Having a Rectifier definitely helps the pickups sound better. I'd like to hear them through a more affordable tube amp or even a digital, as budget players who own those amps are likely the ones who are going to buy this guitar.
Thanks for reviewing this, I've been interested in this model!
These guitars needed to exist 15 years ago
If Squier released this in lime green I would buy one. This guitar is BEGGING for neon colors!
My contemporary HSS strat just got here today, hopefully I enjoy it as much as you did this one
I've got a squier tele that smokes ,no doubt this is even better..looks nice...and that tune almost had a slipknot feel to it 🤘💀🤘
I love how chill your cat is about your demoing.
You’ve convinced me to buy this guitar
I own this guitar do yourself a favor buy it....its a beast of a guitar...👍😈
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
LOVE seeing more and more lead work in your vids man keep it up! This squire seems pretty sweet, I've just bought a Harley Benton SC progressive line, basically their take on a cheap eclipse with active pickups, you should check it out!!
It’s been two years, set up the eclipse
This thing is pretty sweet. I'd still probably choose a Jackson myself, but this is definitely a worthy starter metal guitar. Also, still not a big fan of active pickups, but the Squier ones sound way better than the EMGs, especially the bridge. So much less fizzy and harsh sounding, they sound pretty dang good for actives.
In the comparison I preferred the squier in the bridge and neck position for both dirty and clean. But preferred the eclipse in the middle position on both examples
I had a Squier showmaster with the flames instead of a skull. It has a 25th anniversary engraved on the neck plate. It was a great guitar! I love the reverse headstock!
Not surprising really. The same factory already put out the low(er) budget Jackson guitars. They are top notch for the price range and the passive Jackson branded pick ups sound great as well.
I dont like reverse fender style headstocks. other than that great guitar.
hahaha, to each their own. that's one of my favorite parts!
Agreed! When I decided to build my own Warmoth parts strat, my first requirement was the oversized reverse Fender headstock. Must be my love for Hendrix....
Yeah, I thought it was a guitar for left handeds.
In fact I was thinking of removing the "Squier" logo and putting on an upside down Fender logo so that it looks more like a left-handed neck on a right-handed guitar, but I think Squier earned their spot on the headstock so I'm leaving it.
Update: I didn't. photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPxUUCYZNCv6kowUeWaiFHB6Wd7fFYJQvzA_2q30mv8o--7dB8k0vMIG7W6P_Z_pA/photo/AF1QipNpQhw_vugP6if6n95LVIcmRSadM9lS3BjQm6s0?key=cUtsSDdBYm1GYWVOOFg1SWM0UXlDUi1SV2dTc0ZB
i bet u also hate Wasburn N4 headstock
Def gettin this in black and swapping out the white with a black pic guard
The EMGs in the EC1000 sound warmer and more present. The Squier Actives sound a bit brighter and not as clear. This to me though sounds like the woods used in the body over just pickups. The Squier active don't sound that bad.
I just saw this video hahaha, I bought this guitar about 6 months ago, only I put a maple hockey stick shredder neck on it, with stainless frets, and I love it. For the money its a nice little unit. Very comfortable to play, and yes, it has a little weight to it,which I prefer. Good video dude.😉
I’m not a Fender guy. But I really like this guitar. Especially for the price. And although I like the EMG’s grittiness a bit more, those Squire pickups will most definitely work. Nice guitar. I don’t even need one. I’ve got the exact same ESP as you do. But strangely, I want that budget fender too. Why are they making so many great cheap guitars! Arrrrgh !!! I look around at all my 400-600$ guitars and start thinking, “I could of gotten another ESP!” But sometimes I look at my ESP and think “I could’ve bought 4 killer cheap guitars!” Lol. There’s no winning when you’re guitarded .
Picked one today for 320$ At a local guitar center. there was a dent on the bottom not too deep. Appreciated the 80$ off. :)
All Strats should come in Daphne Blue or Surf Green!
Constable 1976 what about Fiesta Red?
Daniel Cannon Very sharp guitar finish, I always liked Mark Knopfler's Fiesta Red Maple necked Strat, but I'm obsessed with and own 2 Daphne Blue/2 Surf Green Strats and I am currently fighting the urge to buy a $2000 Custom Classic Stratocaster in Daphne Blue, it won't happen but I've got serious GAS.
Constable 1976 Or Cows Milk Cream??
AnnaAnnaYes Yes, Olympic White is a very "milky" color...yawn.
Recently bought one of the Seafoam Pearl Special Edition Mexican Standard Strats, beautiful! Solid build quality as well, just deciding which mini humbucker to install in the bridge (probably going with the Duncan custom shop Lil Pearly Gates). I do prefer Sonic Blue to Daphne Blue (especially with the mint pickguard), but both are great.
I think the Contemporary line is not avaliable yet in Brazil, but DAMN, I F*CKING WANT THIS ACTIVE STRAT!!!
🤘🏼🇺🇸🎸⚡️⚡️. Always respect, and enjoy
your reviews. Super professional, accurate, unbiased descriptions of products. A big plus is you always have a great power-jam put together or us.
Confirmed all active pickups sound the same, it doesn' matter if they're mounted on an ESP an affordable squier or a toilet seat. they sound good though.
Really enjoyed this...Live the playing..! Rock on my brother
very surprised at the guitar lot of main guitar players will take a cheap guitar on stage the show The Young guitarist that you can play on what you can afford. good vid,
Squire actives were cleaner to me. Fire video as always
I need more Simon says.
I would take this every day over the ltd kh 202
I’m Simon and I like the neck because it’s smooth, and it’s wood.
the video for squier neck pickup is switched with bridge+neck (distortion) ;)
Hi! It says in the specs list on Fender's pages that this guitar has Indian Laurel fretboard, not Rosewood. -just wanted to let you know.
I'm actually impressed,not a big Squire fan,but it's really nice for $ 400.00,I like it
Man, I wish I had known these were available before I bought a Fender Standard Strat the other day!! I've always avoided the Squier line due to the tiny fret wire. But if these have jumbo fret wire, and active pickups, then this is a great value!!!
