  • New lures from Nomad Design of Australia, first shown ICAST 2019, available now at www.CharkBait.com. The new DTX 220 LRS Minnow, larger, stronger and made for long range style fishing. Also introduced the 2020 a new trolling lure, MadMacs in three sizes. Two different designs, for different positions and presentations - great for targeting wahoo, and many other species. (charkbait.com/product-categor...) I can be reached directly thru CharkBait, information-1@charkb ait.com

      Thanks Joon, I used to be a teacher in one of my prior careers. That may explain, but primarily, for any small business owner, you've got to love the widgets (in this case fishing and the gear that goes with it).

    Really enjoyed this video, I recently got myself a couple of the DTX 165 and used them last weekend out here in the top end of Australia and the big Spanish Mackerel loved them. They still swam true after taking a lot of damage. New subby here 👍

      Yep, dandy lures and well eaten, too. We've recently had a very good bluefin tuna bite in Northern California, like what we've had down in SoCal for the past few years. The guys north hadn't had this large a tuna within reach before this year. They discovered Rapala's won't work for big fish, split rings opened right up. The tuna were hitting fin bait, so the minnow imitations were well received and the DTX Minnows took plenty of fish...depleting our inventory as well as Nomad's. More on the way, excellent lures and innovative firm. Easy to see these guys were grounded in good fishing with plenty of time and fish to experiment on while dialing in the lures just right.

    Very interesting. Not the lipped ones, they'd be skipping like a rock the way we troll. Where I am on private boats we troll at 12+ knots, up to say 18 knots when wahoo trolling. Haven't seen much of the marauder type planing head desigb lures on the east coast but I am very intrigued. I betcha they'd work damned well.

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  4 роки тому

      They should indeed get some attention. The MagTrac should deal with the speed, as will Catchy's SJ26 spinner jet. The deep diver lipped lures do great, but speed of troll can be an issue if you get much over 10 knots. At that speed, it's good to have a reel with a really low first gear to bring 'em in if there's not a fish attached and the boat's still moving...they really do dig in well!

    Okay - thank you. I actually purchased some Nomad lures from you earlier in the year. BUT - we are in lockdown here in Baja Sur. Crazy. Anyways, what lb. mono can you use versus the 175 lb. wire? Like I have 100 lb., 150 lb. - thoughts. Thank you.

    Great info on depths & ideal speed. I now have a very wide variety of all of the nomads & lots of crimping gear. My question - you mentioned 175 lb test cable would that be regardless of lure size (within reason)? I have 49 strand but maybe you suggest single. Thx in advance.

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  Рік тому +1

      I run 175# 49 strand on my DTX200's, for 220 size it really doesn't seem to matter much, 275, a harness, 200-300# fluorocarbon leader they all seem to drag well given the 220 is a beast behind a boat travelling near 10 knots. The things pull a good 20+ lbs of drag just trolling at those speeds. Regarding single strand, I'm not so big on that idea. I've seen issues, and all it takes is a bend or kink and things go south rapidly and expensively. For bait, sure, but for trolled lures there can be a downside. I like the flexibility and limpness of the 49 strand on the troll. Others may indeed differ and that's fine, personal choice to try evaluate and adjust.

    I'm looking for some recommendations on some nomad lures. I'm heading to keys in June and just wondering what size and colors for the madmacs. My target species will be mahi, tuna and (Wahoo) if I'm lucky. Just wanting to mix it up in the spread a little bit thanks.

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  4 роки тому

      What folks do on the San Diego long range scene is not necessarily what I'll recommend to you for your trip to the Keys. The boat you are on may also influence my recommendation, size of boat, larger sportfisher of say 30+ feet verses fishing from a skiff or sailboat. Without more information, which I'll ask to be emailed directly to me at our shop, my suggestions may be off the exact mark. I will however recommend having two different styles of lure in the spread, the deep diving DTX Minnow as well as the MadMax. For colors, lots of personal preferences, but for prospecting purposes I'd have both light and dark patterns in the spread. These are general suggestions, I can be much more specific with additional info. You can reach me thru CharkBait's website, but I"ll also leave my email address in this vids description above.

    • @CharkBaitUSA

      Daiwa Lexa and Coastals are single speed star drag reels. We do have two speed options in compact sizes - though nothing quite so small as a low profile baitcaster, but awfully close from other manufacturers. This type of question, best send directly to CharkBait or posted on CharkBaits CharkBoard (message board), not relevant to this vid.

    I see the crack just in front of the eye where two of my 200’s broke.
    Any way these are the best new lures for Wahoo. And the 220 model won’t crack!!

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  3 роки тому

      Well, on our 8 day Red Rooster III trip I saw one of the guys 220 with a break at the bill to head. Andy was driving the boat, so speed was up there, wahoo hit the lure and was caught, but the lure was done. Some serious forces combined to cause the damage to lure. For most of us, we'll accept a one-and-done lure if it's highly effective which the Nomad DTX is. Still, the planing type lures like the MagTrak and Marauders, MadMax as well as the big jets have a place in our tackle boxes for specific positions on the troll, conditions and skippers speed of trolling. Good to have options...

      @@wahooandy1 I"m with you, DTX's are darn effective and a very good tool to have along on a LR trip. Great wahoo lures for sure, but not all days nor conditions allow their best use. So, very good to have a plan "A" and "B."

      There's no strict routine for rigging. It's angler and application dependent. My recommendations would require feedback from you, and UA-cam is not the arena for this. In truth, specific product feeback, use...best to contact us directly thru our business and we can begin a dialog. If you purchased product thru us, more than happy to assist, given we run a business and time is a commodity in limited supply, especially this time of year. I have no interest in assisting amazon's entry into our area of specialization by providing input they can't supply, parasitic. CharkBait is a family run independent business, have been providing good service and information for over 20 years. Contact us directly please.

      Varies by angler need. In general, I'd say 3-6 feet. Pound test would normally increase as you seek larger fish using larger lure. So a 240 might be 200#. A guy might do the same with smaller version, but more likely drop down in test. Targeted fish may strongly influence what one might run.
