    Hey Derek I stumbled on your page about a month or two ago just want to say your videos really inspire me to start making changes in my life. I’m not going to lie I probably have eaten meat and dairy products every single day of my life. I’ve been doing so much research on how horrible animal fat/products are for you. I’m actually afraid because from having a poor diet and eating animal products I just had my 2nd major heart surgery and I’m only 29 years old! It’s very scary and it’s time to make a big change in my life I want to become a full time vegan and start living a full and healthier life. What kind of advice can you give me for just starting out? Like what ingredients should I be looking out for when I’m buying products like bread and snacks? Any advice you can give me on how to start prepping meals and living a healthier life. Just want to say thanks again for inspiring me to start making a change keep up the great work!

      MCANNIZZO377 Hang in there. You won't regret changing your diet for the better...whatever it may be. Hopefully you add a workout routine (carefully) and stop smoking if you're doing that. Take care.

    • @EmilyRhinier
      @EmilyRhinier 7 років тому +5

      MCANNIZZO377 if you can't pronounce it, don't eat it. Keep your meals as close to natural as possible (vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables, rice, beans, quinoa, tofu, tempeh, potatoes, lentils, whole wheat pasta, rice pasta and plant milks (almond, hemp, rice, coconut). Keep to the outside isles of the grocery store, try to limit the amount of processed foods you eat, some processed vegan food is okay on occasion, but not everyday. Salads, tacos (beans as the protein), baked potatoes, pasta with pasta sauce (if you buy already made get the low sodium and make sure it's vegan) and quinoa bowls are easy meals to begin with. UA-cam has tons of videos with vegan recipes made from whole foods. It might seem difficult at first, because you are basically reteaching yourself how to eat, but stick with it and you will feel amazing plus be saving the lives of hundreds of animals 😊😊

      PlantsFor Protein can tell you how to store your greens....it usually keeps for up to 2 weeks ...after cleaning them dry thoroughly and I use large rectangular containers..line with paper towel..put a layer of greens...paper towel and layer...this absorbs the moisture which causes them to wilt...Hope this helps you some...

    Thank you Derrick for all this great info. I'm 46 today and 6 months ago i wanted to start a cut so i went KETO... for me it ended up being a huge mistake! extreme low energy levels, chest pains and cramps from low electrolytes, high blood pressure and finally, GOUT!! (ugh!)
    i switched to Whole Food VEGAN a month ago and i'll never go back!! after only the first three meals, my energy was through the roof!! i am easily getting 100+ grams of protein a day and 75+ grams of fat. PLUS my Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio is between 1:2 to 1:4 which is great. according to Cronometer i am even getting plenty of B12 too!
    Question about calories though. Cronometer has me at 3500+ calories which seems a little high for my BMR. (5'10 200lbs).
    have you noticed that eating VEGAN you can eat quite a bit more than the standard BMR and still cut fat? i seem to be losing fat still but wondering if i should adjust my calories down or not?

    • @Simnettnutrition
      @Simnettnutrition  7 років тому +8

      Awesome. Glad you found your way. I hear this way too much. Some younger guys seem to get away with it for a while, but your experience and symptoms will eventually catch up to most people trying that. Happy you are healthier now! Everything sounds amazing, but don't rely on fortified foods, algae's or nutritional yeast for b12. Absorption is much different than consumption. Take a sublingual tablet or liquid a few times per week. And as far as your calories go, just keep doing what you are doing until you see the weight loss slow down. For the most part you totally can get away with eating more plant food calories, and while you are transitioning over it is probably a good thing as most people tend to under eat and more nutrients is better than fewer at a time like this. The benefits keep coming my man. I am sorry you had to go through what you did, but you may never have found your way if it wasn't for that little hiccup. All the best man. Keep me posted.

      It's a permanent fixture in that car now. Lol. She's running like a fine german sewing machine though. It's something to do with the exhaust recycling, idles a bit rich at start up, but other than that she's fine. It's a rav. It would have to burn to the ground in order to stop running. Haha.

    OMG you're gonna trigger so many nonspiritual people with the "highly vibrational" comment. And even though I'm not a raw foodist I totally get the term. My morning smoothies chock full of berries and bananas just have no description. They take me to another level. Wish I could drink them all day long but it's not practical for me.

      It's a cultural thing. The more north you go the more industrial minded/colder people get socially and the closer to the equator (think Northern Europe vs Mediterranean) you get the more social and family oriented people are.
      This isn't anything negative it's just a result of priorities of societies. Social interaction is more important with agrarian based societies.
      This is part of the reason for problems between the different nations within the EU and especially with the states in the early USA, but most people fail to even realize what I just said.

    I would hate having to hear "how is your shift going" especially if more than one person would do it per day.
    Like it's just pointless small talk.
    I could answer with anything and it would be completely meaningless.
    "How are you" is not any better.
    It's fake positivity.
    If I do not feel ok, do I say that everything is bleak and I was (metaphorically) ready to pop a bullet in my brain? Well it would be funny to see the other person's awkward face if I held them accountable to their superfluous questions..

    Hey Derek. I absolutely appreciate what you do. You are literally one of the reason's I decided to go plant based. I Can't praise your channel enough! Never stop this! I wish I had a more exciting question for you but instead I have a little dilemma I would love your input on, as it has made me quite discouraged and stressed. So I'm a 25 year old living in Melbourne Australia and I have a VERY strong family history of heart problems, diabetes, high cholesterol ,high blood pressure, dementia etc from BOTH sides of the family. (my dad had his first heart attack at age 30)
    I switched to a plant based diet about 1 year ago when my total cholesterol was 220mg/dl (130mg/dl being LDL). After being on this lifestyle for 6 months, I did some blood work and my total cholesterol had dropped all the way down to 160mg/dl (almost heart attack proof). I was quite pleased with the results but I knew I could do better so in another 6 months (now) I just went back and did another test but this time the results came out very high almost at 200mg/dl! And my TRIG is borderline too high)
    I am very scared and don't know what to do as my GP is telling me it's probably just genetics. How can this be when my blood work was improving 6 months ago?
    My typical everyday day currently contains white rice, lentils, beans, pasta, avocado, guacamole, white bread, fruit smoothies, veggies, Greens, some nuts and yes vegetable oils. Ive also been guilty of eating palm oil based popcorn from movie theatres 3 times in the last few weeks. But I don't understand why my body is producing so much Cholesterol if my dietary Cholesterol intake is 0. Any bit of advice would be amazing Derek. I really appreciate your time and advice. Thanks! - Junior

    So I’m Flexitarian but am considering transitioning to veganism, my husband who is not onboard at all is worried I won’t get enough iron and b12. I have celiac so don’t do any gluten/grains, no eggs, no dairy ( dairy was the most recent item I have cut from my diet.) I have an auto immune condition I’m working on healing my self from with Gods pharmacy ( natural and food based). I would love any pointers:) Love your videos.
