That grab and go basket (made from essentially scrap) was such a good idea!
It sure is handy to have for far away jobs like this.
Mill the cherry log. Even if you only get 10-15 1x10s that are 6 ft long, that's worth more than firewood. Sometimes better to saw the lumber out of the log you have, not look for the log that you'll get what you want. Also why longer hardwood lumber gets exponentially more expensive with length. Not many trees will give you that length.
Boy, I hope you hold onto that. That is one amazing tree that would make amazing slabwood.
I think I'll save it for now.
I have loved watching all your content Andrew. You and Tiffany have a great setup and property and I love all the things you take on. I’ve come to love watching Ruger and when I die, I hope I come back and have his life! What a great dog and companion!!
He sure is spoiled, but it's worth it as he's a great companion.
Merry Christmas Andrew, Tiffany and the entire TKCL family!
Merry Christmas
That cherry log is beautiful. Did you know it's perfect for wood turning? I have a salad bowl made from the wood. If you have a wood turners guild in your area, they would love to make you a bowl.
I didn't know about the turning part, but yes it's a beautiful wood.
Good day to all.
Morning
Andrew, Another great video, 😊Andrew working Ruger swimming you can definitely tell who the boss is, when Tiffany’s away. That tree skid works awesome. Merry Christmas to the Kelley’s.
Merry Christmas neighbor Mike!
Merry Christmas neighbor Adam
Merry Christmas yall!
With all that water it's kinda lookin like gator territory back there LOL. Wouldn't the largest of the smaller cherry branches work good on the bandsaw for the smoker?
It would, but I'm not a big fan of bark on my cooking wood.
Save the log. Will make several beautiful mantels
Mill that log. Get whatever you can. Some is better than none. Love your channel. You’re definitely blessed. Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
You fellas with industrial tires on your tractors have different considerations than those of us with ag tires. I wouldn't think twice about fording on through most what you have there. Also, I always appreciate you taking the time to watch Ruger frolic. I firmly believe it's time for introspection if you can't slow down enough to enjoy that.
Got to stop and smell the roses.
Beautiful cherry logs for something special. I was thinking same thing about the ducks as you were touring around. Thanks for sharing 👍
I hope some woodies show up soon.
Hi Andrew you’re always a busy man building or cleaning up. I knew you would drop that tree write where you wanted it👍👍. Love the colour of cherry wood. You and Tiffany have a very Merry Christmas and Good Luck in the New Year. 👍👍❤️❤️🎄🎄🇨🇦
Merry Christmas
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Love the channel. 🤠
I love seeing Ruger in your videos. He is a fine animal.
He's a sport
looks like you were having fun in the woods and Ruger to. be bless. SAVANNAH TN.
A great time!
Andrew, stay safe I absolutely love the firewood and tree cutting videos my favorite
Glad you like them!
Hi, Andrew! You just made my day. Your videos never disappoint. Ruger reminds me of Daniel Arms’ dog Bella. She made every step that Daniel made just like Ruger follows you.
I agree, I watched Bella a lot.
Good video. Just so ya know my son is getting me the WS2902 for Christmas based on your review. Thanks.
Hope you enjoy it! I love mine!
What great equipment. They sure make your job much easier.
You got that right!
Great video as always, nicely executed and that winch really helps on your property!
Watch out for Dutchman (cuts bypassing) on the face cuts when felling, only a tiny bit on that cherry but it can compromise your hinge
that cherry fell PERFECTLY
It did fall exactly where I wanted to avoid my small cedar and pine trees. I love it when a plan comes together.
The wench tractor attachment is one of the most innovative inventions I’ve seen in a while! Awesome video.
It really is!
love the dog and sweet yard and bull dozers
You should look at getting a yard glider to put under the front of the log and figuring out a way to attach it to the pull line to keep the log out of the mud
I'm afraid those won't stand up to the weight of some of these logs, that's why I'm looking at building something really robust.
I don't have a sawmill but I think it would depend on 1. what you plan to use the planks for. 2. if the log would fit on the
mill with the bend and 3. which way you lay the log on the mill, with the bend facing down you would still get good planks but the tops and bottoms would be shorter, which goes back to what you might use it for. Just my 2 cents.
Is the standing water you water table or just slow draining from the clay?
In case I don't get to see you before, I hope you and Tiffany have a very Merry Christmas!❤️
It's slow draining due to the clay, some holes have never been dry. Merry Christmas
Great episode! Really impressed with that skidding winch. I wouldn’t worry about those downed trees at all, especially the ones that are off the ground and out of the water. They will be just fine sitting there until next summer. Is it ideal, no, but as long as they are solid now it won’t hurt them to sit till the ground dries out and you can get to them.
To comment on your earlier topic, a bad day in the woods is still better than a good day behind a desk! God Bless Andrew.
I'll go after those trees one way or another.
Ever use a snatch block to change the direction of pull or multiple the force? I hate pulling and dropping a tree right on top of my chain/cable.
Yes, I've shown this.
Have you thought about making a temporary staging yard out in the woods. That way you can start getting the logs processed and staged till you can get them all out safely to your permanent yard
It's an idea. I should have done it weeks ago before the rains. Can't predict the future.
Awesome job Andrew. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas
"Ask me how I know" 🤣🤣🤣
DOS😊
Thats so smart using the winch to pull up those logs! We are going to have to try it. We have so many trees to clear. Can't wait to see what you make with the cherry. I hope you can use it to make sumpin purty :)
I think cherry is one of the most beautiful grains.
You have a saw, cut a pencil like tip onto the skidding side. roll log cut end, roll more cut end until its pointed like a pencil
Yes that's definitely an option
Great Video.
Thanks!
I know it took a long time to work on the down trees 🙀 you're already worked enough so don't kill yourself. Andrew 👑
I need the exercise and I love this kind of work.
Remember that when there's a lot of tension on that cable, stay clear of being inline of it, several feet clear on either side especially without using a cable drop.
If that cable would snap, it could literally cut you in half.
Best advice would be to always use a weighted cover on the cable to drop the cable should it break.
Stay safe.
People have been killed with a cable under tension, comes right through the windshield.
I have a cable drop but completely forgot to use it this time around.
"Ask me how I know" LOL
he went swimming in it befor that lol!
I wondered what happened.@@AdamDeal-KF0PRI
I made it!...... Barely
That's a good area for a turkey roost. They can fly off that embankment into tree tops with water underneath them. Beavers damming up the drainage?
Turkeys are in there all the time. We don't have many beavers in the area, no flowing water except bigger rivers.
Man Andrew... That cherry wood just has a great look to it... Not sure that you would get some super long straight cuts out of it, but I see some potential furniture cuts for sure!!! I'd get the mill and at least try to get some good wood out of it, if it doesnt work, its at least good practice and you can always go back to use it as smoking wood!
Merry Christmas guys... Here's to many more video's!!! 🎉
Very true! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
You can always turn it into firewood but you cant turn firewood into nice slabs. I'd hold on to it.
Very true!
If you can get 8 ft. of relatively straight log, it would be worth milling that cherry. You will probably not use any slabs longer than that anyway, Even a big heavy 3 in. thick mantle-piece would not be any longer than that (normally). I might even consider milling uo the shorter one too..... Maybe start milling anything 6 ft. or longer. Regardless though, if you're going to mill any of it, get that end grain sealed up...
What kind of vine was that on the tree? Great job!
Not sure about that one, but we have muscadine all over the property.
Good stuff, Andrew 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks 👍
There’s a sawyer in Tennessee I’ve watched on UA-cam. #outofthewoods might give you advice. Beautiful cherry!
I've watched some videos.
Nice video!
Thanks!
Are their allegators on your property? Thank you for the tour of the flooding!
There was when we first bought it.
What precautions are you folks taking in advance with all that fuel on the ground for the next dry season, it could be difficult to deal with start making fire breaks now while you have the opportunity.
None, there's an insane amount to deal with everywhere.
I sure hope that wasn’t a poison ivy vine growing up that cherry tree. I’m itching already thinking about it. 😮
Lol no idea, but I'm not allergic to it.
Don't you think you could get some pretty long planks from the cherry you drug out even if you did the straight part of that log? Then cut what's left for cooking wood.
It appears I can
👀👀
It looks like you got plenty of cherry wood for fires and smoking. Save all the mill log's for when you get your saw mill. You are going to need to practice cutting the logs so using those crooked pieces and what not to figure out the puzzle of getting nice milled wood. That way when you get to the nice straight logs you're way better prepared at getting nice pieces. I hope that makes. sense.
It does, thanks.
Andrew maybe this is crazy talk but could you tow your big wood splitter back there w/the ranger, bust up those trees, and then haul them back in the ranger? Or is that just too much physical work on your back? Maybe you could at least get a couple of the nicer ones?
I find it far less work to split back at the barn and touch the wood once by placing it directly into the totes off of the splitter.
@@TKCL yeah I figured so. Just thought maybe that was a way you could get a couple of the ones you really wanted that were blocked because of the flood water.
@ChuckClaunch sadly those trees are very large, it would be very difficult to lift the rounds into the ranger
Love the property. How many acres?
50 acres
That winch sure is handy. Please don’t cut that cherry log up for the smoker. That is a pretty log, would love to see what it looks like milled. I would definitely try and mill it. If it doesn’t turn out then it will still make great smoking wood for sure.
Very true
@@TKCLAnd if you enjoy making firewood (i do too), then you will love milling. I find it as an escape and then you have a stack of usable lumber. Win win!
I can absolutely see it being therapeutic. We just are not ready to commit the money to a sawmill just yet. I'm quite concerned about the economic road ahead this year and we will be slowing down big purchases.
You boy are making my blood pressure go nuts!!! Why do you have to do it when you're alone?!!! I know it ended well this time, but there might be one time it doesn't, God forbid!
We all take risks, do you drive? You're probably taking more of a calculated risk than me 😉
Time to dig a catfish pond and redirect all that water. ;)
I sure do want one
Andrew have you thought about a log wagon
Yes it's on my to build list.
Could rent a large machine to go get those logs out and fix your trails at the same time 😉
Those clay holes are what's concerning. They often don't have a bottom, I've seen huge equipment buried in them.
Andrew have you tried the winch on the electric tractor ?
them arent raisinettes either
No I didn't, it has a weaker pto so it probably wouldn't be the best fit.
@@TKCL probably would drain the battery faster too makeing it work! diesels like to work they like to load to help run efficiently and cleaner
Ruger must be part frog or something LOL
Simplify
I know you planted all the pine trees. But do you replace the hardwoods after they have died...for the future .
Mother nature does that for you. It's actually healthy for big trees to die. 20 more pop up when the canopy opens.
Thank you. I am a city girl. I had no idea.
Andrew you ever see any 🐊 on tour property?
We had some small ones when we first bought it 10 years ago.
So are you keeping the electric tractor or just still testing it long term
Electric tractor has moved on to a new home. I was testing it and providing feedback to the company and engineers.
Is there fish in them ponds??
Only one pond had fish when we first bought the property, it went dry and I've never seen fish since.
New raisin farming ?
Nope 🤣
Oh no don't eat those raisinetts 🫣🫣🫣🫣 those belong to Chris 🧀🪤🪤🪤🤫🤫 lol 😆
🤣
George Washington comes to mind to me. I cannot tell a lie...I did chop down that cherry tree. Why? Cuz it was there!
Totally forgot about that saying.
your channel is sweet
Thank you for watching
