Richmond is the Capitol of Virginia. Washington D.C. is north of Richmond. The "rich men" are the politicians there who pass the legislation that we all live under.
Well put. Legislation which WE ALL LIVE UNDER. Not just in The States.
Substitute ’Wealthy men of Westminster’ and it hits the same on your side of the pond.
Washington, DC is about 2 hours north of Richmond.
Actually the rich men north of Richmond are the people that put soooooo much money in politics that they buy! The politicians who are also rich men! To pass more laws for the benefit of them both! To hell with the both of them!
AND the rich men that pay off the politicians to pass laws that favor them!
As a retired firefighter in the USA, I will add this. In the USA, every labor day, Firefighters across the US and Canada go to the streets to ask for money to donate to the fight for muscular dystrophy. It's called "Fill the Boot". A firefighters boot is held out so money can be deposited in it to be counted and turned in later. During my career of 33 years, I can tell you that the people who look like they need every cent that they have, always empty their pockets, car consoles, or any other place they collect money, and throw it in the boot. And any car that is definitely a car of the upper class, keeps their window closed and look straight ahead to avoid eye contact! And then drive away without offering up a cent. Everyday people take care of their own.
I did a lot of charity work with animals. Our local shelter etc., we typically saw the opposite. It's those that are better off that donate and those in the lower income class not so much. But, I understand that. I don't want anyone donating if they cannot do it. I'll donate to most kids charities also. I'm retired, fixed income so I'm more careful these days. I will always give to the local kid's charities and we have some good ones here.
My sisters and I love when the Fire Fighters are in our streets with boots for donation. Always such a pleasure to talk with them. ❤
I know what you mean as I live in an area with a lot of Tesla drivers with rolled up windows, while me in my 20 yr old Scion box are handing out whatever I have to almost anyone asking at a traffic light. My favorite is putting cash in your boots or toys in the toys for tots boxes by the Marines over at Camp Pendelton. I may not always receive kindness from others but really giving kindness to others is better for my soul.
Mutual aid used to be much more prevalent before the government took over the "industry"
Truth
This is why independent artist are very crucial they can sing about what they actually feel
He is a controlled opposition
@user-rw1xy9mo8e The man turned down an 8,000,000 dollar contract because he didnt want anyone to be able to control his music. What are you talking about?
@@chancemeyers8502he's mad because he isn't a hardcore maga guy
I love my country, but I hate my government.
Same! So tired of the corruption, the lobbyists, and the insider trading. Most of the politicians in Washington could care less about their constituents. All they care about is what their "OWNER-DONORS" want.
Me two I despise our leaders we work till were 67 years then were to old to enjoy it
It should always be that way
His style of singing is called an "Appalachian Holler", and is very popular, here, in the South.
His guitar is called a resonator.
I'm so glad y'all loved this---AND, you got the miner/minor reference!!! ❤
And one of my favorite "toys" is a bass guitar that also has that spider resonator in it. Makes it sound a whole lot more like a bass fiddle without the back sprains (asks me how I know).
Or bluegrass. Having grown up in a "holler" in the "Bluegrass State", I heard enough bluegrass music in the first 11 years of my life to last ten thousand lifetimes. Ugh.
@@dawnak.3056 😂
@@mrwidget42 :
I'll bite.... How do you know?
I was really impressed that they got the reference too.
No guys, Washington D.C. is directly north of Richmond, Virginia, and not too far away.
One of the most listened to songs in the world and not a peep out of mainstream media.
Oh..... there was a PEEP about it alright..... and next to none of it was positive..... big shock..... right?!?..... UGH..... SMDH. ;-/
This song went straight to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 about four days after release. Craziest thing is that Oliver Anthony is the first person to achieve such a feat with no promotion or previous work. This song, borne of a bout with depression (Anthony's own words), is a once-in-a-lifetime anthem for not just us here in America, but around the world who are going through the same thing we are.
so washington D.C. is just 100 miles north of richmond , so he is referring to politicians .. but my favorite part is when he says "i wish politicians would look after miners instead of minors on an island somewhere " which he is referring to he would like them to take care of coal miners instead of minors on an island referring to jeffrey epstein's island
This song reached the top of the music industry charts for a couple days after its release.
this song strikes seriously true for those of us living in Appalachia... speaks some serious truth.
These are the pent-up frustrations of generations in Appalachia.
Also the Ouachitas and Ozarks we cried listening to ballads.
"Look out for miners, not just minors on an island somewhere". Woa! Shots fired!
I believe they're referring to our illustrious government reps. Oliver Anthony also has another song called I Want to Go Home which is very moving.
When people have to spend every waking minute working to just get by, it makes it damned hard to even think about the "pursuit of happiness". The "New World Order" is doing the working class absolutely no favors. Oliver Anthony is saying exactly what the majority of the world is thinking. Great reaction.
They have been showing their hand lately -it will be their downfall.
We'll see 🤞
The rich have been stealing from the lower and middle class in America for decades. Ever since the decline of the labor movement. No more pensions, expensive medical care, laying off tons of workers even though they are making a profit because their already-rich shareholders want even more of a return, it never ends. The greedy always want more. They are sick. "For the love of money is the root of all evil..."
But the worst thing about it is the lies that some people believe and keep electing the same people. The lies that immigrants, or poor people, are the reason they are doing worse. When in reality it is the laws and loopholes that the billionaires pay lobbyists to bribe politicians to enact. When a large corporation loses too much money the government gives them taxpayer money but when the taxpayers lose too much money we are on our own. Tax the billionaires, regulate corporations, go to single payer healthcare, and give us back our money and our quality of life.
On one side you have Jeff Bezos wanting to build rocket ships and on the other side you have hundreds of millions of hard-working Americans who want nothing more than a decent life.
Americans don't mind working, we will for bullshit pay...bit damn your stealfrom us too. Nope
Oliver is amazing. His voice is wonderful and he's not afraid to say the truth. He's had me crying with every song he's wrote. He's just a simple man filming himself and his dogs with his phone. 💜
I wish politicians would look out for miners and not just minors on an island somewhere. Biggest line in the song.
"Fed loved and happy" seems like a merch idea for some couple wanting to come the the U.S.
“I Want to go Home” and “90 Some Chevy” are both worth reacting to. Completely different vibes, with the first one similar to “Rich Men...” in the power of the message, and the second one is more of a love song. There are a bunch of other songs too and he has a channel on YT. He’s putting it all out himself and refusing to sign with big labels. Turned down $8million right after this song went viral, and is insisting on affordable pricing for his concert tickets. He’s awesome!
I cry every dang time I listen to "I want to go home". ❤😢
I love his song "I've got to get sober"...a truthful song about the struggle of addiction.
I'm a 70 year old US citizen. THIS BRINGS TEAR TO MY EYES EVERY TIME I hear it. We have lost control of our government and I don't think we will ever get the "old" USA back.
Do we want the old USA back? How "old" do we want to go? Back to the days when gay men were tortured and beaten to death and tied to fences? (Yes, it happened, and not 100 years ago either. This was in the 1990s.) Women being the property of their husbands? Black folk getting lynched for daring to smile at a white person? Jim Crow? Slavery? Witch burnings? What part of the "old" USA are you feeling nostalgic for?
It’s beyond us for sure. It’s all up to God now
Sadly, I agree.
We have to do a better job of raising our children to turn this around!!!!!!!!!
It depends on who you are as to when the country was great.. was it ever great for black people? Should we go back to when women couldn’t get a credit card w/ out her husbands okaying it? Or before Ronald Reagan got rid of regulation and the corporations when wild ? When was it great exactly ?
Watching reactions to this song I always know how informed people are based on the reaction to minors on an island. Great reaction!
I think you might find it interesting that he and his wife just had their first child (a son :-) ) also. He has turned down millions of dollars of offers.... he wants to control what happens to his music. He also cancelled a concert when he found out how much the venue was going to charge people to come to his concert. He is still trying to figure out all this fame himself.... he has lived a life of struggle and has a heart for those who also struggle in this life. I truly do not think he and his wife will forget where they came from and will just appreciate whatever comes their way. Like he says- it was NEVER his dream to become famous or sing in big concerts. He loves people and the simple life
Its their second child together. They have a Daughter and now Son Amos. He also has a Daughter from his first Marriage.
We saw him a Billy Bobs in Ft Worth. $15 a ticket. Sold out show. Started and ended the show with Chapter and Verse.
I want to Go Home is another gem from him.
Just announced for 2024 Oliver Anthony will be touring the British isles and parts of Europe
I've watched that myself at least a couple dozen times and I've watched at least 100 reactors react to it. You can make it be 101. I enjoyed it. I'm glad you guys did it. Thanks for all you do!
This is a Anthem for the working class across the world.
Oliver (Chris his real name) Anthony he goes by his grandpa's name. He is a Christian man. A new father and a dog lover.
We love him here in the USA.
He has more song's on his channel I'm sure you both would enjoy.
He released another song right after this which is basically a sequel to this song. It's called "I Want to go Home"
I am so proud of him being a southern Virginian myself and it is an anthem for many of us here and it turns out around the world. We have the rich part of Virginia or lower Washington DC basically in the north and the real Virginia with actual Virginians from the middle down. It is amazing he was invited to the Blue Ridge Rock fest just outside of my town and his dogs are just chilling like that on stage and off.
He’s the real deal. Lives a working man’s life. Rich men north of Richmond (Virginia) so it’s the politicians in Washington DC north of Richmond he’s talking about. So true. Love it!
He is singing about what needs to be addressed!!! Love Him!
This is the realest I have ever seen u two be❤. Usually u skate around issues(neutral) and I get why, people are so quick to be offended by real talk but my respect level for u both just went up ALOT.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Show Oliver some love and subscribe to his channel, Oliver Anthony Music and check out his other songs. Each one has a deep message
93 million in three months is 1 million views per day. He'll be performing 3 miles from my house next summer, I'll definitely be there.
I worked the concession when he was at Longwood University a couple weekends ago. (Longwood University is in Farmville - his home town)
@@grking01 How long was his set? Did you get to see the performance?
He was offered 8 million dollars to sign w a record company and turned it down, God bless him, love HIS music
He's referring to washington d c where all the crooked awful people are
Also Oliver Anthony has another great song called “I want to go Home.”
I think people from every country have said said this is us too. This is a song for the working men and women.
Thank you so much for reacting to this song.
She really spoke true about people that are working class and the kindness and willing to help your neighbors.
I heard that the camera and equipment was from a local radio station that heard a recording of the song and asked him if they could film him performing it
That tree house behind him was a deer stand, where hunters hide to get venison to eat.
You have the new mommy glow!! You're more beautiful than usual!!! Congratulations!! 😊❤❤
I once heard it said that, while money might not buy happiness, it sure does make misery more bearable
Not only is this a true song for America, the song is for the world. It hit hits hard for many many many people of all shapes and sizes and colors
Check out Oliver's "I Want To Go Home". Another song for many who are fed up with the New World and feel hopeless about their future.
Yes, he is saying it like it is. It is so refreshing to hear honest, direct language about the world, not "correct" speech where you dance on eggshells afraid to offend anybody anywhere. I suppose there are millions of people around the world glad to hear that somebody understands them.
This singer picked the title Rich men north of Richmond, because Rich Men north of Washington DC didn't have the same alliteration. The song is basically about the uni party, which are those politicians from both political parties that like their power so much, that they'll do anything to keep it at the expense of the common people struggling to survive.
No such thing as a bad song by this man. That simple.
Which one of y’all wanna give ‘em the run down on Oliver? Let’s see, before this video came out, he’d never properly recorded anything ever, outside of his using a crappy phone. He never had an intention to “be a singer” in the way one who does, usually seeks fame and fortune. He was frustrated, 30 days sober from alcohol and just frustrated with the state of things here in America, and in the greater world at large. A man who was his friend and also worked on a channel for UA-cam out of Virginia, showcases local Virginian/Appalachian musicians. He approached Anthony wanting to showcase him as well, and feeling like there was something special about Oliver. Made this video in his backyard, put it out, and no kidding, the views were in the millions within days. Oliver, whose real name is Chris (Oliver was his grandpas name so he uses it in honor of him) said he hoped maybe a few thousand would hear his song. He and we could never envision his stratospheric rise, in 5 days. He’s been on Joe rogan since and that was his introduction to the world . He’s married with children and a pregnant wife. About three days after it came out, he did a show at a farmers market, where just the week before 10-20 people came to see him. After the song, thousands came out, he put on a free show.he’s turned down every record/hollyweird offer. It wasnt about the money, but thanks to that initial friend with the Virginia channel, he made bank. It was such a moment being in the zeitgeist watching this all go down. The world watched. The world cried. And here we are.
He also turn down a 8 million dollar contract with a recording company. That is a real man.
Id love you guys to watch his song called Doggone it and another called I've gotta get sober.
Chris (Oliver Anthonys real name) is an amazing humble guy thats been through a lot in his life and he has alot to sing and tell about
I believe one of his friends heard the song and said that he had equipment to record it and they just did it for themselves. It turned into an anthem here in the states. I think you guys should do more music reactions
He is going to be in Manchester on February 8th and London on February 10th. I'm hoping to go see him in Roundrock here in Texas in April. I absolutely love him. I grew up listening to my papa play banjo and my mama played guitar...bluegrass is very soulful. I'm so happy y'all enjoyed him. ❤️
Such an amazing song and such a great review!
So glad y’all have finally come across this song! It’s incredible!
Great reaction, you two, and good to see you do this one. I've seen people reacting to this video from the Middle East, India, New Zealand, Africa and most are flabbergasted, but MANY of them cry and say that they are going through the very same problems as we are, so you weren't far off, "soon-to-be Mrs. Beesley".
BTW, I'm from America and I share all the same feelings as the others who've reacted to it. And, as said elsewhere, Richmond is a city in Virginia, just south of Washington, D.C. ... the source of political power in the States ... where the White House (and the President lives) and Congress are located, as well as where ALL politicians make/pass laws that "Control" the rest of the country to a great extent. It's conserved :"The Seat Of Power", as London is to the U.K.
this song unites the world
You two are a thoughtful, kind and special couple, and I hope life brings you great joy because you do a lot to enrich the lives of others. I truly enjoy and appreciate your reactions, so please keep up the good work.
Oliver is speaking truth for sure. He is saying what a lot of us are thinking over here. Not all, but a lot. Thank you
Well done! We can definitely fix the world! Love you both!
Your guys's South Park reactions are honestly one of the best I've seen on UA-cam in a while
If this song doesn't make you sad, angry or fill you with indignation, chances are you are one of the rich men. This is the people who work their asses off, with no thanks, with no reprieve, who see the bullshit of how the elite live and are damn tired of the way things have gotten so far out of hand. He's singing our song. He's sing not to us but for us.
Richmond is a city in virginia a state in the US. North of Richmond Virginia is Washington DC where all the rich elite politicians live. This song highlights the differences between the working class and the rich elites.
Millie, you are 100% right, he is singing what we think !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow Great reaction Very powerful song
So glad that you guys reacted to this song. It’s made the rounds across the US and speaks to all of us.
Being from West by God Virginia this song does hit home. I am so glad people across the pond get to share this with us. It is a shame WE all relate to this and no matter the culture, continent, country, village, or town it hits home! Great video you two. I have said he has put the air back into the lungs of us all!
You got to react to him singing I want to go home.
that video was made at his 'house' which is a camper trailer that he had to cover with a tarp to keep the rain out.
The funniest thing I saw was one of the comments on this vid "Holy shit! I just bought welding rods from him 3 days ago". He sold supplies on jobsites, hopefully still does.
There's was just 1.5k thumbs up a minute ago but now it shows about 100. UA-cam is playing with the views and thumbs again 😞
Wall Street is north of Richmond too!! I think that place has more to do with running everything now, more than the politicians. They’ve bought most of them off. 😢
Fun reaction.
This is just a regular dude saying what regular people are thinking
This was his first professional video. Done by West Virginia Radio station. All the others were done on his cellphone.
I would love to hear you react to more of this now historic singer!
He has more he recorded on his cellphone and in his same native setting.
"I've Gotta Get Sober"
"I Want To Go Home"
"90 Some Chevy"
"I Don't Have A Dollar"
"Virginia"
"Rich Men's Gold".....
THANK YOU for reacting to this world-changing masterpiece!
Love the British people! Also your treasured comedic series like "Fawlty Towers" and "Are You Being Served"!!
And he has a real interesting background story...
this song resonated so well because you can FEEL his emotion in the singe and know he is not singing to sing a song but to express a message.
God is working great things through this man. He should be in all of our prayers!
He turned down an 8 million dollar recording contract.
and I loved when he put on a big concert...promoters were selling tickets way out of what the normal person could afford...he canceled the ticket sales and then resold for a very reasonable price so anyone could afford to attend his concert. Just like turning down record deals, he wants control of his musical freedom and not be dictated by the "suits" of what he can or cannot sing, play or record.
He then later turned down a 10 million dollar offer from Bud Light.
He has done a
bout 12 songs. He refuses to use a production company. He also will cancel a show if the venue requires too high of a ticket fee.
You are right. Money can't buy happiness, but it can make a heck of a down payment...
200 mile North of Richmond, VA, is Washington DC, all Politicians.
I've been waiting for you guys to get to this, so happy
Ooohwee Mrs Beesleys fired up and I like it. I'm guessing Mr. Beesley loses any and every argument.
You two are really a couple of my favorite people on youtube. You are lovely people.
Looks like you all across the pond are going to get to enjoy our man for a while next year! He's coming over there and doing a whole Europe tour all over the place it looks like. I'm jealous :)
"Fed, Loved and Happy" I'd buy that T-shirt. Hint, hint.
Fast Times At Ridgemont High is a classic Movie from the 80's. If you have not reacted to it, worth the watch.
After this song went viral, this guy was offered an $8 million contract from a recording studio, but he refused it because he said that he doesn't want to be associated with the "rich men", and that he didn't want to be controlled by the "rich men".
Checkout his song "I wanna go home"
You should check out his Oliver Anthony music. He walks through the woods with his dogs. Its so peaceful. Love all his songs.
It happened overnight here. North of Richmond is Washington DC.
Love that you got the Minor/miner reference instantly!
If the funds that were allotted to the homeless programs were actually used to help them the problem could be solved.
Instead the politicians pocket everything and it becomes another slush fund.
I've got to get sober is a great song from him
I enjoyed your reaction folks!!
God bless you and yours and God bless the USA
Not only is Washington DC north of Richmond, Va. but so is Wall Street NYC.
Just watching you two laughing and talking together cheers me up. I love hearing the British perspective on things. Sometimes, it's so similar to ours here in the states, other times I'm completely baffled by the differences. Either way, I love your channel.
I just love your wife she has a great personality ❤ 🇺🇲
Richmond is south of Washington DC; which is really the only geographical context you need.
Money doesn't make you money, but lack of money can make you miserable.
