Like other hearty vegetables including broccoli and cauliflower, kabocha squash can stand up to a little gentle cooking without losing all of its nutrients. Jennifer demonstrates a quick-and-easy steaming technique that will let you bring this tasty squash to the table in less than 15 minutes.
One reason Jennifer considers the kabocha squash such a time-saver in the kitchen is that it doesn't need to be peeled. She'll shares tricks for efficiently cutting through the tough outer skin, seeding it, and cutting it into even chunks prior to cooking.
Kabocha is wonderful combined with other veggies. Jennifer shows how to add complimentary ingredients midway through the steaming process so that they don't over-cook.
Jennifer demonstrates how to use pure, healthful ingredients such as lemon juice, fresh and dried herbs, olive oil, and salt to bring out the natural flavor of kabocha instead of drowning it in butter, sugar, and other processed produced.
Kabocha is rich in beta carotene, with iron, vitamin C, potassium, and smaller traces of calcium, folic acid, and minute amounts of B vitamins. But it's the flavor that makes this vegetable one of Jennifer's favorites that is sure to become your favorite, too.
