I just learned about this film tonight since my dad was watching it on TV. 1. I love action films 2. TLJ and Gary Busey are great actors 3. Jimi Hendrix is the man!!
combined with the overhead shot of the Missouri. perfecto. foreshadows the future line by the Admiral, "They got a whole lot a trouble on that battleship."
IMO the movie would have been much better with just about anyone else other than Seagal and he was one of the weakest actors in this movie. Imagine this movie with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Lundgren or just about any of the other expandable guys and it would be better.
I’ve noticed that characters in 90’s movies Will always drink this brand whenever having sparkling Wine. Have never tried it myself, but i’ve seen that it’s expensive asf.
Steanix was not a part of any order. He wanted $200 million. He said he had no faith in anything. It was all a rise to confuse the Pentagon about what his real motives were, sell the Tomahawks for a fortune. Just like Hans Gruber
you need to find better heroes. 6'5'' Seagal smashed 5'7'' John Leguizamo up against a wall during the filming of Executive Decision, BECAUSE, John didn't readily accept steven as the king. Whatta bully ss is.
@Aryan Toon 1st of all, this movie has all the elements of Die Hard (a hostile group of elite criminals/terrorists who hijack a structure with many innocents while a lone hero fights through it all to defeat them). 2nd of all, I didn't know BW was such a man of subtleties that he would (IN SPITE of the massive structural similarities that already exist between Die Hard & Under Siege) create enough of a difference that it wouldn't look like his previous Die Hard movies. Get real, bro. Likening my comment to what you said about Sixth sense is WRONG, no it's not. In the sixth sense, BW wasn't even trying to produce another DH-type movie (and Sixth Sense was a different category of movie all together) and, BUT, Under Siege was THE SAME category of movie as Die Hard (with already all of the SAME structural elements). So, YEAH Under Siege would have been a Die Hard at sea if BW was in it.
It's so funny because Steven smashed Joe Leguano up good on the set because Joe had an attitude, and it's like the best story Joe has to tell in every interview. "When Steven Seagal kicked my ass on the set of executive decision" 😂. It's so funny how Steven actually ended up doing him a favor. Joe also always points out that Steven caught him "off guard" as any kind of preparedness would have changed the outcome 😂. The fact that Joe always has those watery victim-eyes and a trembling voice while telling the story is nothing short of comedy gold.
What are you talking about, he BARELY even smiles (a very MILD smile, and no giggles at all), then he says (in a non-excited voice) "Better call the office" (What 10 y/o says THAT??). "giddiness" I DON"T THINK SO. Watch it again, ty.
Joey Coburn. Tommy L J didn't seem as well known until after this and the Fugitive. Too bad his fame kicked off so late in life. I knew of Gary Busey after Lethal Weapon, still villainous with a weird hairstyle. While I'm glad he found religion after an accident in the early 2000s I don't care much for the stigma celebrities get when they become religious: they often either reject their legacy or they expect a lot more fan praise publicly by their transition, which they don't always get. Does anyone remember how arrogant Kirk Cameron became after finding religion? Good example of my point here. Becoming a Christian isn't my issue here, its how some fans portray him that enrages me. Read some comments I've made on some Of Mr Repzion's videos, whoa! If those don't clarify my rage in this regard, I dunno what to tell you!
Little fun fact: The background audio with the F-18 pilot was an actual incident: In January 1989, 2 F-14 Tomcats detected a pair of Libyan MiG-23s moving towards the USS John F Kennedy off of Tobruk. The F-14s intercepted and shot down both MiG-23s. The audio was taken prior to the shoot down before the MiGs made their hostile move
Hollywood must really like using that audio clip for the extra realism which it does add to both movies. Unfortunately, the pilots voice, in this film, doesn't quite match up with the radio version.
Colin Sweeney So awesome in this movie that the very term awesome fails to do him any real justice. He made this movie, and added this layer of wit, character and gritty vibrancy that essentially injected this heavy dose of all those much admired and tasty ingredients into it, those of wit, character and gritty vibrancy. Jones was the STAR OF THIS SHOW, knife through his head and all. FUCKIN hilarious!!
And all 4 Iowa-class battleships were equipped with 4 Phalanx CIWS each during their 1980s modernization. They basically became indestructible at that point.
It’s pretty cool to imagine how powerful a 1980s refit USS Missouri would’ve been in World War 2. Almost single handedly capable to defeating the Japanese Navy, without the tomahawks.
As the bad guys seize the ship, shoot down the plane, then head off to launch nuclear warheads, the only chance is the cook and the dancer. As the ship sails forward, Hendrix plays - standing next to a mountain, chop it down with the edge of my hand...and the battle for the ship begins. I love this scene. I love the cinematography, looking down from above on the giant ship with but two survivors, somehow, to stop the evil men.
Because at that point they didnt know the Missouri had been taken over by terrorists. Thats what the F/A18 was doing out there: teying to figure out why the ship had gone dark. The pilot wasnt anticipating hostile action against his plane
Normally I'd rate a movie like this as, say an 8.5 out of ten. Though with the incredible and hilarious acting of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey driving much of it (all the blazing and slicing action, via the bad ass fighting skills of Steven Seagal, notwithstanding), then this movie jumps to a 15. Out of fucking ten!! From an 8.5 out of ten to a FUCKING 15! 15 out of 10. Those two are that fucking good, and funny as fuck! For they very nearly carried the whole movie themselves, on their OWN FUCKING SHOULDERS!!
Talk all the shit you want about Segal movies, but you can't deny this one isnt just fucking great. Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones out crazying each other with nuclear weapons in the menu while Voodoo Child fills the air alongside an F/A-18 being blown to pieces. Artwork
The radio coms from the F-14 v MiG 23 clip in the late ‘80s makes no sense in this scene. “Approximately 8000” just as the plane is shown about 200 feet above the water. Who the hell edited the scene lol

studinthemaking no it doesn’t mate if you need to scramble for a reason you send two. If a pilot is out training he’ll be accompanied by another pilot in a jet in case something happens.
No way in hell we would launch a nuclear missile at our own ship. Especially one with tons of American hostages on it. They would send in Navy Seals, just like the movie did. If that failed, then maybe a cruise missile or air strike. But definitely nothing nuclear.
I love their fake reaction in unison to the jet flying by. God bless these 90's movies!!!
The Jimi Hendrix soundtrack... amazing.
Yup.
Remember as a kid, was the very first Jimi song I ever heard :)

This scene combined with Steven Seagal's wooden shed like charisma - it's hard not to cheer for the bad guys.
