Hey #Insurance, let’s talk about why you should start your #CPCU today! #CPCUVantagePoint #CPCUChampion #CPCUGangsta The original article from years ago: insnerds.com/1...
I have been in the industry for 5 years now as a general lines agent, underwriter, and first response...and i am JUST now finding out about this certification...man i am so pissed and so excited lol
I personally used only TI’s official textbook and online practice exams. I hear lots of people recommending Big Daddy and lately more and more people recommending Insurance Exam Guides. The best place to ask is the CPCU Candidates group on Facebook
I don't believe CPCU does any support of the GI bill. It's worth calling them and asking. I always recommend doing CPCU Commercial Lines, but ultimately nobody knows which one you did. The new ARM to CPCU path is also becoming very popular. Also, if you're asking about study materials I got mine using The Insitutes textbooks but combining those with Big Daddy University's supplements is super popular.
Around two or three years ago, I completed my journey too CPCU, and also got some other Institutes' designation, have to say it's a great journey to learn insurance, and it makes me to believe insurance is at least a mixed-science subject (but of course not the rocket science). But I am some hesitate now again, but as what I though before around four or five years ago, insurance?that's it, that's all? Can we make our life better not by insurance? I am thinking risk management might be a good way, but seems we are still far behind it, at current at least.
Insurance Nerds Okay, that’s not bad at all. It will feel similar to reading the insurance reform in Michigan(200+ pages of 🤨) but a lot more interesting.
Just started my CPCU courses and I am currently an agent in a small P&C agency. What specific positions should I be looking at in the Insurance industry to best utilize my CPCU training?
Hey Tony, taking my last class (elective) AIDA 181. After that I will be a CPCU! Planning to take AIDA 182 to get my AIDA designation next. What are your thoughts on picking up Associate designations after CPCU? Is it beneficial at all from a career perspective?
I ended up getting 2 prior to CPCU and 6 after. I learned a lot on each of them and really enjoyed it. Career-wise you probably only need CPCU plus one, whichever one is closest to your job (or the job you want).
@@InsuranceNerds Thanks Tony, I appreciate you! Hoping to become an Analyst, so I’m thinking AIDA may be the way to go. I might pick up API as well since it’s just 1 class. Have a great day!
My pleasure. Yes, for the analyst side AIDA is highly recommended. I would also look at one of the Google certificates in data analytics even if they're not insurance specific.
Hello! I've been in the health insurance industry for the last 6 years. No claims experience but medicare sales experience. I wanna to get into underwriting. What steps do you recommend so i can get closer to my goal?
What courses should I take if I have 0 insurance experience to break into the industry as an underwriter? I currently work at a big financial services broker dealer for the last 1 and a half years.
Getting your AINS would be a great start. Getting your AU would be even better. Once you do get a job at an insurance carrier (even if it's not yet in underwriting) then get your CPCU. I'd be happy to chat and help you come up with a more complete plan. Grab some time at ChatWithTony.com
Personally I took it using the Institute's textbook and study guide. Big Daddy University's materials seem to be wildly popular and now for some tests there's also the Insider's guide by Marty Frappolli who worked at TI for 18 years.
Hi Tony. I'm currently starting my first career job as a claim specialist with one of the big insurance firm. However, I got interested in underwriting field and I decided to study CPCU exams. Will having a certificate of CPCU with no background or experience of underwriting field help me to get a job as an underwriter? (would it make it easy?) Please let me know!
Yes, it'll give you a great intro to underwriting AND it'll make it much easier to get the underwriting interviews. Claims Adjuster + CPCU is a tried and proven way to get into Underwriting.
I am a CPCU holder right now. I qualified just two weeks ago. I will be very grateful if you could help me get a job in the US. I have done insurance in Africa in the last 22 years. I now want to practice in US.
Hi Jerry. First of all congratulations on your CPCU! Unfortunately, the US the US immigration system makes it virtually impossible to get a work visa to work in insurance. I am not aware of any insurance companies that sponsor foreign workers for the required H-1B visa.
Hi Jerry. What is your role? Have you tried to transition your role to a Reinsurer with operations in Africa? That could be a first step to finding future roles in EU and US. My 5 cents of advice…. Hope it helps
Hi Jerry to echo what JCG wrote, you probably have a greater opportunity to work with one of the larger multinational insurers i.e. Zurich. If you know some Dutch and English languages, Zurich always have openings at their Netherlands office. Working for this insurer would probably open up opportunities to work for their US and/HQ Switzerlandbased offices. Success with your journey.
I'm in Ct, and I want a property and casualty insurance position should I start my CPCU course before getting a job? I want to use it as something to put on my resume? What do you think?
Hi Tony, I am currently working towards my CPCU designation! I have passed CPCU 500, 520, 530, 540, 551, and 552. I am currently working on CPCU 553. I currently work in QA Customer Service and have 7 years of experience in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry. What career do you think I should pursue for my next role once I receive the designation?
I have been looking into getting my CPCU for awhile now. I have no idea where to start. I have been an underwriting/loss control assistant for 4 yrs and want the opportunity to move up into an official UW title. Right now my "job" technically is a office based fill in UW. I want to officially that career move. Please help?
I am Indian have a dream to land a Job in USA so I have completed AINS designation, completed 520 and ethics. I have 14 years of US Insurance Industry as I worked with Willis 10 yrs and Marsh 4 yrs.
Unfortunately, even a CPCU won't get you an H-1B sponsorship to work in the US. The only option is an intra-company transfer at your current company, but even that is exceedingly rare. 😔
It used to be 4 years when I got involved in 2011, it's gone down a lot. I haven't heard a number recently but I would guess probably in the 2-3 years. Keep in mind averages are weird, some people have done it in 4 months (not recommended), some took 26 years. My advice is aim for 1.5 to 2 years for a comfortable pace.
@Insurance Nerds what is ACI designation? Is it similar to CPCU? Before you said, ACI is a competitor to CPCU in Canada. Which one do you recommend? I work in broker side in PL.
@@bhawnaarora4455 I don't have ACI myself, so I don't know it intimately. I can tell you in the US, CIC is more popular than CPCU in the brokerage space. I would recommend looking at the higher-ups at your company that you admire and see what designations they have on their email signatures and LinkedIn. That will give you an idea what is rewarded at your company.
Currently studying for the CPCU! Thank you for giving me more insight about the designation and it’s benefits !
You won’t regret it!

Please and thank you!

Good info, thank you! How long is a CPCU course?
You should title this video “Top 11 reasons to get an underwriting degree - CPCU Designation” :0).
The shortest is a 200 page textbook and the longest maybe about 400 pages? It's self study, so how long is kind of up to you!
Insurance Nerds Okay, that’s not bad at all. It will feel similar to reading the insurance reform in Michigan(200+ pages of 🤨) but a lot more interesting.
It's a TON more fun than reading legislation!
Just started my CPCU courses and I am currently an agent in a small P&C agency. What specific positions should I be looking at in the Insurance industry to best utilize my CPCU training?
Positions in Product Management or in Underwriting. Definitely any position with the name ‘Underwriter’ in it!
If I have 18 months of experience would it be okay to start taking the courses. You have motivated me to start taking the CPCU. Thanks

What insurance jobs should the start of the CPCU give me an advantage over ? Would it benefit all different types of underwriting or no?
Thank you for the video where do you recommend taking the course?

Hi! I live in Chile and I'm an underwriter of vehicles, do you consider that getting this certification is going to give me benefits in my career?
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the insurance talent market in Chile. I would ask around locally to see which education is rewarded locally.
Would getting an AINS prior pursuing a CPCU be worth it? I'm fairly new to the industry.

I m Canadian. Am i eligible to do this course? 🤔
Yes, CPCU is available Globally. There is a Canadian competitor also, I believe it's called ACI
What is ACI? Which one is better? CpCU or ACI? Not sure how yo start?
Do you need your BA to start?
No. CPCU does not require a Bachelors.
Which cpcu verification should I start off with the 500 ?
You can start anywhere you want, but yeah, 500 is the traditional place to start.

12 years in insurance. Is it even worth getting at this point?
Never too late sir.
is CPCU beneficial if i'm moving overseas {Qatar, UAE or Saudi Arabia}?
It is getting more and more global recognition but if I had to guess I think you'd be better off with ACII from London for those markets.
Thank you

Sign up at web.theinstitutes.org/designations/cpcu . Nothing different just because you're in Canada

When I complete my CPCU do I automatically get my AIS? Or is that different?
AINS is smaller and less in depth. Once you have CPCU the AINS doesn’t matter anymore...
