    This is beautiful. You do such a great job explaining all of the different stitches and how they work together. I would be stumbling over the terms if I had to explain this to someone. Keep up the great tutorials, I learn so much every time I watch. Thank you.

    I’m so glad you did the foundation double crochet as it has a more finished look at the bottom of it. Plus is a bit stretchier.
    Love the border in the same color, it looks elegant. Thank you for teaching us step by step.

    I am making this because I think it is beautiful! My problem is I am on row 37 and am still 30 stitches away from 166. I have checked and rechecked that I am increasing correctly, if I need 166 for edging guess I will keep going. Using a color changing yarn so its making its own stripes, going to be pretty!

    I have made a triangle shawl with the granny patter. I like to make the edging of this shawl. I began to, but I'm not sure that's going to be right.

    Love your tutorials and listening to you. My 1st row ended up looking like a square box ... don't know what l did wrong ? Could you please tell me what is the stitch count supposed to be if l make my next one larger? Also thank you for teaching me how to use the chart it was alot faster than reading the words. Tip 😊
    For newbies... l took a long piece of yarn and laid it where l started my repeat then took the end of it and laid it again where my next repeat started, this really helped seeing the repeats.

    Hi there. I already undid the beginning of this shawl 3 times and I still not getting what am I doing wrong. The beginning of the first roll doesn't look like the end of it. The beginning looks kind of square and the other side kind of smooth edge... Do I make sense? Help please.

    • @MarlyBird

      Luna H the shawl has a very unique shape. I had to get about half way through it and then block it to get it to look less triangle. I bet you’re not doing anything wrong if you’re getting gauge and following along with the video. Did you look at the last page of the pattern to see the shawl laid out?

    Question about the ch3 at the beginning... in the rules of crochet you normally do ch2 at the beginning of a hdc row even if it isn't being counted as a stitch otherwise it will make a distinct bow/loop gap and I'm not sure that was part of the design? Is there an actual reason for making the 'non stitch' taller than the hdc and, if not, would it alter things negatively to simply do a ch2 instead?

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  6 років тому +3

      Because I didn’t design the piece I can’t say why Rohn designed it that way...I just want to make sure I’m showing you how to follow this instructions. If it were me...I would work into the turning chain on my last stitch...but that’s me.

    • @HaileyAndTheArt
      @HaileyAndTheArt 5 років тому

      I absolutely had the same question. You're using your turning chain to build up your height for the next row so I always thought it was a chain 2 for HDC.

    I wonder if Marlys turned out bumpy on the sides? She did not show it so it is hard to see.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  6 років тому +1

      Have you washed and blocked the sample? Mine was fine.
      If you’re getting bumps you could put the last stitch of every row into the 3rd chain of the turning chain to try and even it out.
      You could also Do the sc along the edge to finish and that might hide any bumps.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  5 років тому +1

      You can as long as you keep the stitch count for the edging. Also, be sure to keep your stitches looser or it will start to look like a trapezoid vs a crescent.

  • @joycehertz2722
    @joycehertz2722 2 роки тому

    My ends of the rows on the body of my shawl doesn't line up smoothly like yours. Each ch3 part looks a scalloped edge instead of a straight line. What did I do wrong?

  • @MScott-oi2uu
    @MScott-oi2uu 2 роки тому

    What if we make 2 dcr in the first and last dcr of each row, instead of 3?

  • @intheparlance
    @intheparlance 6 років тому +1

    I made the entire body, and then unraveled because it did not look like the edge of the coral/gray shawl. It was more triangular, with the edges of the chain-3's sticking out making it look all bumpy. Is that fixed in the finished product with the single crochet all around?

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  6 років тому +2

      You could absolutely hide that after you single crochet around it. The finished sample didn't have a single crochet around the entire things but that is written in the pattern as an option. If it were me...and my own pattern...I would count the ch3 as a stitch and work into them to eliminate the bump...but that is me and I can't say that in the tutorial for how to make the actual pattern.

    • @intheparlance

    • @PumpkinSpice1960

      I had the same problem and then in a comment I saw earlier I thought she said to put the 3hdc in the chain 3 spaces at the end. I hope that is correct because that is what I am doing.

    • @PumpkinSpice1960
      @PumpkinSpice1960 6 років тому

      What did you do to figure this out? Please share!!! Thanks. I think I am just going to start over and use 16 stiches and use the chain 3 as a stitch

    • @intheparlance
      @intheparlance 6 років тому +1

      Yes! That is exactly what I did wrong. I just finished this scarf last night and I have it blocking now. I really like how it turned out except that it was a little small for me. I think when I make it again with different colors, I'll try to calculate how many extra stitches I need to increase the width and still come out with the scalloped edge even.

      the gauge is 11 hdc = 4.25" which is 2.58 sts per inch and could be a problem. I'm not sure without seeing it. What yarn are you using? I am at a loss as to why it isn't working for you. The sample I made worked fine, It did have a little triangle shaping to is but not drastic. You can see on page 3 of the pattern where the pattern is laid out flat...does yours look like that?

    I've tried this pattern twice but keep getting a triangular shape instead of a crescent shape.I love this Shaw but I hate ripping it out and starting over just to get the same triangular shape again. Any help would be appreciated

      Are you working the correct number of increases at the ends? Have you blocked it?

      I just ripped out my triangular shaped shawl. I sure hope this works out the 2nd time around. I am increasing 3 hdc at each end with a chain 3 so, fingers crossed!

    If you wanted this a bit larger for more coverage could you just keep going a bit?

      Yes but you would have to make sure you have the correct stitch multiple for the border.

      Perla Valtierra: es la misma cosa. Solo que como ella lo hace va haciendo la cadena y el punto alto (vareta) al mismo tiempo.
