I'm a 61 yr old white woman (who grew up outside of Baltimore) who grew up in the ’70s. “Cool & the Gang” was yes a black band, but so was every “Motown Hit.” My 1st 45 record was “Diana Ross.” We NEVER once used or heard the N-word or gave a shit if you were black or white. We loved ALL the COOL music the black artist played. And we also listened to Led Zeppelin, Stones, Doors, etc.
This world is a mess right now! Our music influenced us then and unfortunately today. The lyrics & garbage they call music today are sinful!

This song just never, ever, gets old. ALWAYS sounds good. Every time, always. No matter the time of day or activity - weekend cleaning, afternoon BBQ with friends and fam, while having a good drive with the wind blowing, late night relaxing, while having some good lovin', whatever. Doesn't matter. It's always just so good.

This song came out in 1974. The summer of 1974 was full of summer madness from what I recall. At least for me it was. That was the summer that my family and I moved to another house. We didn't move very far. In fact, we even stayed in the same county where we were living. However, I was just a little kid back then, so that was a big deal to me. This song captures the atmosphere perfectly of what that summer was like for me back in 1974.
Crying while listening and remembering people places things and this beautifully smooth groove. This long version will always be one of my top 10 favorites 🎵🎶♥️

I love this song. Charles’s octave playing was delicate and groovy. Kool’s bass tone is scrumptious. I always like George’s drumming. The synth tone was so warm analog. Great mood.

Takes me back to 1977 when I lived in Windsor next to Detroit and this was playing on WJZZZ. I had the record the next day. Still close to my heart. I just heard this track on a radio station a few minutes and did it ever blow my mind.

My all time favorite song in life. No matter the time, day, month or year, it's still all good, period. Family picnics, joyrides with my parents and so many other good memories behind this song. And when they perform it live, they never disappoint. That groove is everything.

I remember when i was 18 i just left home got my first car it was a 1962 Ford Falcon i put a 8 track and this is one of my favorite bands back then. This song brings back great memories of those days. Those were great times to be a live and i was truly happy.
This track is me driving around Phoenix at night during the deep summer, gliding along the freeways with barely anyone around doing 5 lane sweeps and feeling some hot desert air blowing in over a lil A/C

This is one of my all time instrumental tracks, just love the early Jazz fused Kool & The Gang material, before they realised what a Ladies Night can do for you lol, this track has hypnotically eerie led melodies along synthesizer lines, which just oozes quality all the way through, i have never played this once on my deck, always requires a rewind, its Winter Sadness but miss the Summer Madness

Ain't grilling yet but it's coming. Can't wait to explode this endless classic through the speakers later on this summer at a cookout. But for now, I'm enjoying this jazzy run on my balcony and sippin' and looking at God's beauty, and saying "wow."

This is definitely summer madness, crusin with friends in your beat down car, but that was all you guys had to get to the party and back down the highway early Saturday morning hardly any cars on the road coming back from a Friday party or club all nighter, with the sun rising in the distance and some of the guys too doped to speak crashed out on the back seat and you and your co driver just soaking it up. No words are spoken but you both understand the groove. Days you will never get back.. Cherish those precious moments, because the older you get the less friends you have...But music like this keeps the memories alive
My late friend Tommy was a life long L.A. Laker fan, and he sadly missed this week. He and I were backstage at the Kool and the Gang, K.C. and the Sunshine Band at Brown Square Park Rochester Music Festival 1993. In 1984 me and my ex met Kool, the Bassist and the Drummer and the Sax player before a show in OKC. This jam was our favorite, and perfect for how I feel, thinking about the blessings of Freedom. For my friend, and friends, be safe, and remember it ain't "free"...

This was DJ Alan Almond's sign-off tune every night on "Pillow Talk" on WNIC in Detroit. I used to listen to it back in the teenage days. Just found out he died. RIP....
Mia444 44 for real I found this many nights on some crappy old 1970's car radio with horrible speakers that would rattle when I cranked this on my way home and because another show came on after I never knew it was Kool and the Gang. Now we can listen to this as many times in a row we want or find a bunch of remixes and mashups that are great too.

Mia444 I was a young student nurse working at Hurley Hospital to make ends meet while I went to school. i drove a GM car that was mostly sold in Europe. It didn't have a defogger so I had a hand scraper I used when driving home in the winter. But, it had a great radio.I would get out of work just about the time that Alan Almond was signing off of Pillow Talk and crank the radio up and away I would go to the Expressway and drive home to Davison, Mi. That was 40 + years ago. This sure does bring back memories and lots of them. I also heard about Alan Almond dying. So sorry to hear about that. He was not much younger than I am now. Thanks for your comment helping me to remember this wonderful time of my life.

I'm 19 and this is one of my favourite songs. At the moment, I dont really have a definite direction in life and there are some obstacles that i need to overcome. I listen to this song to calm down, to remind myself, that everything is going to be alright and that i got this shit and that there's nothing that can happen to me that i wont be able to deal with.

I'm 41 years old and can remember hearing this song in my teenage years but never knew the name of it. Listening to this always put me in a relaxing and peaceful mood.
Similar story: used to hear this song played on some Detroit Soul/R&B station every night while driving at night--some DJ used it as his theme song for a late night pillow talk show--and he'd play the whole song and sometimes use it as his bridge and/or background when he spoke. Such great memories. Such a timeless masterpiece.

I remember going to sleep to this song, riding to this song and watching my parents hand dance off this song. I can say its one of my favorite jazz songs of all time. I know my kids will adopt it as a favorite just like I did as a child. I can agree it don't matter what time of day or the mood you're in just listening to it will put you in a better place mentally.
