    I enjoyed hearing your story. I am older then you and I started painting in 2007 for art on the wall for a renovation. Everyone raved about it and I discovered I reallyn enjoyed doing it. I have sold $16,500 worth of paintings without much effort put into it. Like nyou but at a higher level have always accumalated paintings. My friends, family and strangers have frummaged and taken them. My wifes divorce lawyer bought one lol. I have learned alot and have incorporated my wood working to make frames now and hardboard canvasses. You have given me the idea to incorporate some of my artist friends in some kind of pop up art scenario. It was great that you went for it like that. Tks again

    Rob, thanks for telling this encouraging story. Seems that people were happy to help you out once you took the risk to ask. Every wall in my home has my paimtings that no one ever sees, so I'm going to look in my area try something like this.

    Thank you. Love the picture behind you. I had a pop up gallery for the first time last year, in a library. It was very successful. 40 pictures, I do textile art, and sold 12. I will do it again. ilona

I was feeling somewhat lost in how to start selling my art until I watched this video. I live in a small town in eastern Ky and this showed me there are options even here. Thank you once again and your work is beautiful!

    Thanks for relating your experience. My situation is a bit different. I don't sell much art, but for decades have just kept piling it up, including countless hundreds of presentable matted drawings, and now resuming etchings. Despite selling very little, I keep raising my prices (in my mind). The reason is that after a good resume' decades ago, museums have been acquiring my works, and I have pieces in important collections and also collections of well known athletes, actors, and other high profile estates. Even as an art student I showed in an important invitational at the Brooklyn Museum. Presently one of my goals is to approach more museums to offer works for their potential acquisition, which I expect would be free to them just to enhance my standing. I have held 3 one-man shows over the decades, with very few sales. At my first show (long ago) a woman walked up and said "your prices are too low!" (yet, of course she bought nothing). One of the shows was in NYC quite a while back, with a couple of small sales. Having moved away from NYC, I now live where there are very few galleries, and where buyers would avoid higher priced art. If I approached a local gallery, I suspect they would like the art but still want lower prices to encourage sales. So the dilemma is I will not sell most works for low prices. Even if I did a "popup gallery" it would not work in this area, which I jokingly refer to as an "art vacuum", unless of course I had some very inexpensive prices. One of my friends just held a show in NYC and sold almost everything, around $200,000. Still, that is very much the exception rather than the rule, and I am still surprised at those big sales. At this point, selling seems remote, but giving to museums seems possible.

    Hey Rob! Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm an emerging artist and I got an opportunity to have a "pop up" gallery show in my town. A local business advertised on FB that they support local artists. They provide the space for 25-30 pieces of work inside their restaurant for a % of sales. They don't charge for the space. I wasn't really ready to start selling my work. I just started to teach myself to paint watercolor last August and I didn't have enough sellable work. They let me reserve the space for 1 month, several months in advance. I am just about ready to hang my paintings this May. Thanks for the tips on advertising and your honesty about the difficulties involved. I haven't quit my day job yet; but, my goal is to go part time next year and sell my arts and crafts as a second job until I can retire. Have you done any arts and craft shows? I'm in NC and there are tons of them in the Charlotte and Winston-Salem areas. Looking into that aspect of sales as well.

    • @RobReepArt
      @RobReepArt  6 років тому +2

      I may give it a try again next year, but it all depends on if the same building is still available. Some other buildings just aren't suitable for a gallery, so I will likely start planning it this fall. And yeah! This little youtube channel is slowing growing! I'm excited about its growth, but I'm more excited that I've got awesome people participating and really watching. If it wasn't for you guys, these videos wouldn't be happening. So once again, thank you all so much!

    According to art industry leaders the best way to sell your art to collectors is through Instagram. If you haven't done so already you might want to try that.

      I get it; but, sometimes it's good to hear from other emerging artists their "back story". Those of us that are learning the "business" like to hear what others have experienced.

    Sorry, but that dog you are in front of....I hope it is not finished! That would "maybe" be a rough underpainting
    for me.....get to the point! Do a post on, Is art dead - - Galleries used to be in every town, art critics used to be in every newspaper. In the music field, Josh Growbin opens his mouth and everyone says, Yes, you have to be a singer! You do not have that in the Art World! I could go on...think about it! There are Galleries that rent
    their wall space....I do not recommend that!
