    Andre, everything you hate is exactly why I want this truck. Give me a simple, functional, reliable truck everyday over what Toyota is turning out today. I don’t need bells and whistles, I need to get from point A to point B and haul some shit. That’s it.

      This^^^ is why people that buy Toyotas do! If I wanted all the bells and whistles I could get a Ford and deal with all the break downs and expensive repairs. I do not want that in a truck! I can add any of those through the after market and usually get better products like Car Stereos I can buy better systems if I want them later on and the same for anything else.

    I have a 2015 tacoma trd pro with over 250,000 miles. The thing is an absolute tank! I change the oil when it tells me to, change the air filter when I remember, changed the axle and trans fluids at 100K, never changed the spark plugs, changed the fan belt once because why not? The interior still functions great, drives great, has no features to become outdated, love it.

      I love the tacomas, I had a 2003 and it was a mess, my grandma helped me get it she passed away and it was in her name so I wasn't able to keep it, I just couldn't afford it but my goal was to get another but they are expensive, I'm not one that can own a house and have brand new vehicles lol so I went for the house and I'll get one eventually. But great truck glad you're happy with it and take good care of it 🙏👍

      Perhaps Andre should have just bought this and claim it to be a project truck to ”fix” the things he doesn't like. It would have been less awkward than presenting it this way. The things he's complaining about would seem valid as he's comparing it to modern trucks today's but it's not really fair in the end. It's like buying an 80s model F-150 and complaining that it doesn't have a nav screen or power windows.
      But having said that, there are always going to be some things we don't like with any vehicle, new or old.

    The lack of tech and bells and whistles is why the truck is reliable. I will agree that the lack of a rear locker is just corner cutting by Toyota but the other stuff is what keeps it reliable. Toyota doesn't make vehicles reliable with magic and pixie dust. They keep their vehicles reliable because there very slow to adapt new tech and keep things simple. What your seeing today with Toyota and all the fancy bells whistles and tech is one of the many reasons there having so many issues.

      @djjd3027 I'm not sure, lack of suspension squat, superior interior design, quality cruise control, good interior storage, simple but updated infotainment, nav, gauge camera/backup camera, and drive mode technology. Constitutes a difference in reliability if it's not present in a truck
      I agree with the tiny tire, rear lock, and to a degree the awd

I asked my dealer what it would cost for the Toyota SD card to update the maps and he said 140 dollars with the official Toyota card. I said no thank you. Can buy aftermarket but never want to do that as it may put a virus into it. The truck is overpriced but we all knew that. Minor point, you tell me that with this set up thery don't include side steps and mud guards. Side steps are more than in and out help, you can scrape your boots on them and get some of the mud off. That's it.

    Limited Slip is sufficient for snow and most off road. You don't need a locker.
    But an open diff is a handicap. I added limited slip to an old Wrangler and it was a major improvement. I tested it out by driving challenging mud/snow climbs in 2WD, and it worked great.
    My used Taco came with limited slip, also. I didn't know until I actually drove it for a while. Works great, no fuss.

      For on road winter driving an open diff with 4 Auto is the best setup. Then off road you want a locker to perform best in both situations. Ram’s 4x4 option is the way to go. I’ve had all setups and 4 auto with an electric locker is the best.

    • @barrydworak
      @barrydworak 2 місяці тому

      @moonwalker8172 for on road snow driving, symmetrical AWD is far and away the best. It's not even close.
      Limited slip is superior to open rear diff, both on and off road, in snow. Doesn't have the crazy good handling of symmetrical AWD., but it doesn't just spin a rear wheel when one is sitting on ice. And open diff 4wd is still inferior to true AWD.
      Automatic with extra cooling is good for some things off road, but just using 4Lo is fine for most, and manuals don't burn up.

    • @moonwalker8172
      @moonwalker8172 2 місяці тому

      @@barrydworak I agree symmetrical AWD is the best available in automobiles, however trucks aren’t available with that option. That’s why 4 auto with open differentials is the best truck system for slick conditions. Contrary to what many think, the anti-slip differential is actually not the best for icy driving since it creates a push condition (crabbing condition) and reduces steering.

      What? In order for your truck to be tracked by GPS it needs a GPS satellite signal. If you don't have that signal then I don't care how magic the SD card is, your truck won't show up on the map. The only thing the SD card does is allow you to update the maps of the manufacturers Nav. Let me know how much it costs to get a new map SD card and how many people actually pay to update it? Yes... If you are using CarPlay or android auto they need a cell signal. But if you don't have that signal, you can always switch over to the manufacturers Nav which also stores its maps in the flash memory of the head unit (same as having an SD card). The only difference is that you don't need an SD card to update those maps, they are done every once in a while over the air. Their is absolutely no benefit or advantage of having an SD card reader to update your maps.

U do plan I'm on upgrading the radio (already upgraded the speakers). I have lots of plans. Amazon has a few options for console organizers that are cool and useful.

    One thing I love about 3 gens is that they don’t have sensor issues. The outdated technology/interior does it justice. That’s why I love my 23’ taco

    Something that didn’t make this list is lack of trans cooler. I don’t tow much so not a huge deal for me, but may be another thing to add on your list of upgrades.

    The outdated tech of the information screen is not entirely fixable of course... You might like to add a carplay screen on top of your dash, I have one on my 2017 Ram. These are fantastic to get maps and then wire into your AUX port to get audio from whatever you have going on in carplay. The only downfall I have seen is these displays have terrible microphones for taking calls. I have connected an external wired microphone to mine, but it is still not great for any sort of involved phone calls. Perhaps if you get a more expensive one, it may be better? I know there are some from the traditional GPS companies, they might be worth a try vs the numerous Chinese amazon options. Happy trucking!

    I love those trucks Andre. You made an awesome purchase. The only flaw, in my opinion, is the mpg and like you say it's worth it for that fantastic engine. Your family will fit in it with room to spare and it will pull your boat as good as anything out there. I'm glad you got the blue one too because that is a good looking truck. I want to see all the videos on it.

      And the 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8 on the first gen was even better and able to go 1 million miles. That was the best yota motor ever made and likely the best petrol engine in automotive history.

    Toyota made a major upgrade after 2019 with Apple CarPlay if you're in your vehicle a lot, it's a game changer you essentially don't really care about the software in the vehicle because you're running everything from your phone

    great video, I can see how passionate you are about your new Tundra! but honestly, I have to disagree on the reliability issue you mentioned. I've had my Tundra for years, and it’s been nothing but solid for me. Maybe it depends on the specific model or year? just curious what others think!

    My 2024 Colorado ZR2 lifetime fuel economy is 14.4 ..... Was expecting the 20 mpg owners claimed they got on their highway trips. Idk maybe their highway speed is 45?
    Had no idea it was as bad as a tundra 😕 i though those got 5-7 mpg!

    For truck rear suspension towing height, I run aftermarket airbag helpers. There easy to install, no drilling, uses existing frame holes & spring unbolt mounts.

    TFL, I have a 2020 and love it. Just a few other things I dislike. 38gallon gas tank. Fuel light comes on at 26gallons used and shows 0 miles at 30gallons. That’s 8 gallons till actual empty.
    Next, fuel door. Cheep and opens easy
    Cup holders suck.
    Still love the truck and not planning on getting rid of it for a very long time and not looking either.

    I own five Tacoma’s and looking at getting a tundra. Because I have a farm my 2 Wheel Dr. vehicles get stuck and the four wheel with 285s told them out.
    Now that I’m looking at a tundra, I’m thinking 4 x 4 might actually be unnecessary unless, I get stuck on the farm.
    Busy guy, three trucks on the farm stuck in mud from rain 🌧️. No time to pull them out with my one 4 x 4. Burning up the clock looking at tundras and I have homes on multiple islands. I am so baffled however, if I get stuck on the farm with the tundra, then I guess I’ll have to get my Tacoma to pull me out or just get a tundra with 4 x 4.

    Maunakea has snow !

    Andre, the Tundra's 4wd system is for off-road only! Running it on pavement might break something!

    • @TheJohn8765

      4-Hi should be able to work on-road just fine (unless Toyota did something stupid). People do that all the time.

    • @Johnson13210
      @Johnson13210 2 місяці тому +2

      @TheJohn8765 You're incorrect. I own one. It's not recommended. Now heavily snowed over icy, slushy pavement might be OK, but not direct contact asphalt. The front and rear diff are different. The Toyota Sequoia does indeed have a true full-time all wheel drive of those years, but the Tundra doesn't. Look it up!

      @@Johnson13210to be fair all 4wd systems are not “recommended” for use on dry pavement. It doesn’t mean you can’t do it.

      So the thing is not made for snowy roads that have asphalt or pavement underneath them? When I go from work to home, or home to the store, or even home to the mountains, I find that pavement is a very nice thing to have. I haven't found much use for driving over rocks and trees and large gaps in the earth so far.
