One of my good friends as a teenager, Kyle Cooke passed away when he was 19 from cancer and Underoath was his favorite band. He lost his leg at 12 years old and endured countless surgeries and hardships but he was the warmest, most amazing human being I have ever met in my life BY FAR. I have strived to be one millionth of the person he was since the day I met him. He was a phenomenal musician as well. His band was called "A Hope For Home". He died after playing a concert, doing what he loved most. Please listen to them, specifically the song "Kyle". This song played at Kyle's memorial service. I am an atheist, but every time I hear this is makes me cry and I hope with all of my heart that I someday am able to find a connection to God as he had and I'm able to finally be worthy of a friend as amazing as Kyle. I love you man. I miss you and think about you \always. Even 15 years later.
Huge Underoath fanboy here. This song was the end of "They're Only Chasing Safety" (Their first album with Spencer ((Their scream vocalist))), Would I say this is an accurate representation of Underoath? No. However, I understand why you chose this song, primarily in context of "Christian Week." Honestly, there's not a lot in their other songs that I'd consider religious, aside from some contextual things. This album helped me a lot during the darkest period of my life, and although I'm not religious, it didn't sway me in the slightest. As someone else mentioned in the comments, when they came back together a few years back, they dropped the Christian label because of how Spencer was treated after their initial run (fell into addiction). I've seen them three times, and will see them open up for AIC and Korn. If you go back for round two: "A Boy Brushed in Black and White" is their biggest hit. I also recommend "It's Dangerous Business Walking out Your Front Door," "Writing on the Walls," "Bloodlust," "Returning Empty Handed," or "I Hate It." Thanks for reacting, and keep up the quality content!
Glad I found this. I played this 11 YEARS ago at my grandmother's funeral. She was very religious and would have really enjoyed this song. Now I can re-learn the song and play it to honor her husband, my grandfather, whose heavenly anniversary is coming up. thank you!
I love this band and hearing this song brings me to tears almost every time. I had a major come to daddy moment and to hear others in darkness coming to God is so reassuring for others! Keep up the incredible work!
They do not generally not choose the songs themselves but are requested to do specific songs either by their patrions or by a general "public demand", so if you think it's a strange choice, blame either their patreons or the public ;-)
UnderOath decided to "not be Christian" anymore. It sucked as a fan and a Christian, but whatevs. You should try to get an interview with Aaron Gillespie (the drummer). He's a smart guy, and shares quite a few views as you guys. Hope you guys are feeling well today.
They’re not selling the image of a Christian band anymore, they didn’t say anything about personal beliefs, fans have twisted their words though and didn’t get the meaning like always..
@@nomeru_0 ...Spencer has gone on record and said he wasn't a Christian anymore (as well as another member apparently straight saying he was atheist). You really need to listen to something off of one of the first 2 Underoath albums. Cries of the Past, And I Dreamt Of You, Act of Depression, A Love So Pure, etc. This band had one of the most drastic changes of sound ever in my opinion. This song is one of their better songs from this era. But you really need to hear what they used to sound like.
Yes!! You need to hear they’re first 3 albums, “Act of depression, Cries of the past & The changing of times”, that was the real UnderØath. Had more of a Blacken Metalcore sound and with hard emotional & spiritual driven lyrics.

Y'all talk about about what would have been better songs for them to react to but you don't realize that this was the perfect song for them to react to based on their faith. They do reactions as "devils advocates" to black metal satan praise and this is a straight up worship song to God and I think this was the perfect song for them to react to. We're not here as a metal community to convince them of a belief we're here to show them music and make their own decision, If you know good christian metal share it too. So Vin and Sori check out Impending Doom - Silence The Oppressors. Its a message to unopen minded Christians from god loving metal heads.
Check out underoath "cries of the past" the song "the last" that was the underoath who we hung out with and saw at knk rehearsal studios where they started. Its black metalish and hardcore mix. Pretty cool for them being the Christians they were at the time. And former memebers still are
