I've been a WVU fan since 1973 and a 1976 alum. I watched many years of Mountaineer football through many head coaches and I watched all the WV players who went on to the NFL. I love WVU and all the players. I am also very impressed and thankful for your fidelity and support of WVU. You're a good man, Pat. Thank you.
My first instinct was that it's gonna be much harder this time around in the Big 12, but truth be told, now that Texas and Oklahoma are gone, the new Big 12 reminds me a lot of the old Big East. If you remember, the old Big East was no pushover. Virginia Tech, UCONN, Louisville, UCF, Cincy, Pitt; these teams were almost always dangerous. There was never like a real dynamite powerhouse in the Big East to get through, but there were a bunch of solid teams to have to beat. With Oklahoma and Texas gone, the new Big 12 feels a lot like that. I still think top to bottom it's much better and deeper, so it will still be harder for him to have as good of a run, but it's nothing like the SEC imo
I'm a West Virginia home town fan. I remember you guys pat. The best we ever was IMO. You guys were relevant and no joke. Back then it mattered and competing at the highest level matters. Slaton, white, and others was fun to watch. That was early 2000s if I remember correctly we was the Big East back then. It blew my mind when coach left. Hope he bounces back and Mountaineers make WV and college football proud again in Contention. Respectfully
Right there with ya. I grew up in the Rich Rod era, and those seasons of Big East football were huge to me growing to love football in general. The Slaton & White combo, Pat's kicking ability, and FB Owen Schmitt breaking his helmet regularly from running people over... One of the best college teams that didn't make the Big Game, IMO. Made it even more devastating to see coach leave. Glad he's coming in with the attitude to make it right. If Rich can recruit the right talent(and we know he can) and build a team that is even a semblance of those glory days, the Big 12 needs to watch out, cause WVU is going to show em what it's about.
@roboviking9964 it would be nice to see. I graduated in 2005. So I was playing sports myself all those years it seems like yesterday watching those guys cheering them on. Welcome to modern day NIL. WV will never be able to get good players to stay. If your not a blue blood team these days you are just a step before they get to where they really want to go.
@@jeremiahthompson8951 I disagree. Lots of highly touted recruits don't get the opportunities to play at the blue blood schools. These kids want a chance to showcase their skills. Some of them get that blue blood opportunity and mess it up, either through on the field performance or off the field issues. There's talent enough out there. A coach of a mid-major needs to capitalize on the portal. Keeping Trotter in the hills where we love him would be a good first step for the program and a solid way for RR to protect the paint on his car.
