The may have a funny name, but the new Snood Decoys from Hunter’s Specialties look great, are durable and are easy to carry into the field. Over the past few years decoy companies have stepped up the aesthetic quality and function of turkey decoys and HS has certainly joined the ranks with the Snoods.
The Jake and Suzie Snood are full body collapsible turkey decoys with awesome details. The paint is flake free and has that nice shimmer look to it like real feathers.
Out of the box they decoys unfold nicely with just a few crinkles. There is an air valve that you can basically blow the decoy up like a balloon to fill out the decoy. I set both decoys out in the sun and the creases worked quickly once the heated up a bit. One thing to note though, the decoys are not designed to hold air so you will hear air escaping from around the stake insert. The ability to inflate the decoy is just to help it get shape and remove some wrinkles not keep it inflated.
Both decoys come with a plastic folding stake that has an o-ring on it to keep the decoy from spinning around to much on windy days. The stake can also but used to put the decoy in a lower submissive breeding position.
The Jake Snood is in a semi-aggressive stance to bring that aggressive Tom running in. The Suzie Snood head position is upright. Normally I like to hunt with a hen decoy with a lower head position. I personally think a hen with her head up means she is on the lookout for danger, but that’s more of a personally preference.
The decoys work well in the field. My dad and I doubled on opening morning of Missouri’s turkey season using these decoys.
Both decoys collapse and can be carried in your vest but they will take up most of the available space. It does take a little time to let them completely deflate before they can be folded back up, but its not that bad.
HS has the price for about $92 for Jake Snood and $74 for Suzie.
Quality: The paint is nice and there has been a lot of effort put into the details of the decoys.
Reliability: For the week I used them I didn’t see any issues with quality.
Price/Value: For the paint job and function they are reasonably priced compared to other turkey decoys that are well made.
Referability: If you are a turkey hunter that wants a realistic decoy that is collapsible this is a good option for you.
