What to Feed Baby Ostriches

Raising ostrich chicks can be tricky, but this is what works for me for their feed. I do a 50/50 mix of kalmbach 18% start right chick starter (unmedicated! They cannot have medicated chicken feed. It will kill them! ) and Mazuri ratite starter. I put it in the bowl like you see here but I also sprinkle some on the ground to teach them to eat using their natural pecking behavior. They can also have very finely chopped greens like kale or collard. I use that as a topper I sprinkle in their food and water dish to further entice them in. This is exactly what I feed my chicks from hatch (wait 2 days after hatching before offering food and water) to about a month old.
