    Maag sounds completely different and is in a different class.

    Great video. Similar vibe to both plugins. I will say that I think I like how the Maag EQ treated the hats and other high frequencies. It sounded a little more pleasing to my ear than the stock EQ8. EQ8 felt a bit harsh (splitting hairs but that's just what I noticed.)
    I use EQ8 all the time, of course. I gotta dl the Maaq EQ and try this out in my own studio to be sure.

    I don't fully agree with this statement because there are editing plugins that do not come stock inside your DAW, but don't steal plugins. This is not 2007 where there is only a few DAW's out there to choose from and nothing is free or compatible lol Educate yourself in music production.

    It’s basically a common knowledge at this point that you can null test 99.9% of third-party EQs to a stock EQ in whatever DAW you’re using. You can’t do that to a hardware unit though. But buying a digital EQ is just like throwing your money out of a window.

    if you can't hear the difference then you can't but don't assume there is not any, but does it really matter?

    • @TomCasey
      @TomCasey  8 днів тому

      There is still a HUGE difference between these plugins, their musicality and obviously their interface.
      But as I said in the video, I've had students completely mess up their desktop setups downloading sketchy torrents because they thought they couldn't mix a track without a cracked version of Ozone (or something like that)
      Obviously, I don't think that is necessary, nor do I advocate people spending money they don't have on these things when you can just use stock DAW plugins and get the job done.
      Unfortunately, I see that is a very triggering stance to our consumerist hearts, but that's just my opinion!

    The difference between plug-ins 3rd party is that some of the plug-ins are specifically designed to do that specific task, yes, native plug-ins are very good nowadays but for you to duplicate that specific action that this specific EQ does, you will have to do extra steps.With that being said if you can afford it go for it, as long as you know that you can do the same thing with what you already have just by doing a few extra steps
    However, there are some plugins that don’t come w daws that are amazing and useful.
    . Great video.

    Brother, how can you sit there and say you don't need Plugins... you sat there A/B matching to Maag and still couldn't sound as good, I can clearly hear that it lacks top end crispiness and just doesn't sound as tight overall as the Maag did. It is also easy to EQ when you have a reference point like the Maag there where you can A/B a plugin and try to recreate it, but try and do as good of a job without having Maag available to compare your EQ to.
    At the end of the day it's just an EQ plugin, but why It's so good is that the configuration is musical, it's very fast to dial in and it sounds great and saves a lot of time

    • @TomCasey
      @TomCasey  8 днів тому

      I agree the Maag is very musical. As a said in the video, not owning these plugins leads people to believe they don't have enough tools to finish their mixes. Anecdotally, I've had students DESTROY their computers downloading torrents because they thought they HAD to use these 3rd party plugins.
      I understand this type of video triggers people, because you and I have likely spent money on these plugins and feel the need to justify them. And they are justified purchases! But again, please understand this video is meant for people that can't afford them. You can absolutely get a great mix without them and I won't back down on that stance!

    • @foljs5858

      Because any difference is insignificant in the context of mix

    • @TomCasey
      @TomCasey  8 днів тому +1

      I just roughly matched the effects to prove a point that they are both EQs and can achieve a similar effect.
      It's a bit silly how triggered the comments are on this video, though.
      I guess I upset people when I tell them they don't have to spend money. Very interesting.

    • @TomCasey
      @TomCasey  8 днів тому

      Yes, there's still a subtle sonic difference. The point of the video is that these plugins are tools, and for someone who cannot afford these 3rd-party plugins, that small difference should not prevent you from becoming a better mixing engineer and growing.
      I also detect a hint of elitism from your comment, which is not surprising either. There are many guys like you out there that just relish leaving this type of comment lol. Good luck to you brother.

      @@TomCasey Whoa, brother, no need to create a new stereotype just because I offered valid criticism. I primarily use Ableton's stock plugins and strongly advocate for learning your stock tools. But, my man, I’m assuming you know that even a bell curve behaves differently in analog-emulated EQs. With some tweaking, you can absolutely achieve what a Maag EQ or any other famous analog emulation offers. That’s exactly what I mentioned in my original comment-I can hear the difference. No need to get upset over some simple feedback. I hope I didn’t trigger your manchild behavior. ❤

      Yea, I see people very triggered by the video which is a bit surprising.
      These are rough examples and ultimately meant to be encouraging to people that simply don't have the money for these awesome EQs and whatnot.
      I don't see it as a supremely hot take, and I'm surprised by how triggered people are on the subject, but thank you for understanding. Cheers!

      It's meant to be a quick video and more importantly a pragmatic philosophy.
      I'm noticing a lot of the triggered comments are looking for a highly scrutinized example, or to just scrutinize me in general lol!
      I will always be pragmatic, and I will always advocate for newbies to avoid illegal torrents or to stop spending money they don't have.

      @@TomCasey It was not against you, Its a feedback, the examples you are showing are unfortunately worth nothing, especially for newcomers, you actually don't help them that way, you should explain the biais of the loudness, again Its not against you, you can do anything but this is not good information especially for newbies.
