The Kim Carnes version is a cover too. Jackie Del Shannon wrote it in 1974 as a jazz song which is largely forgettable. Kim Carnes was the one that mate it a timeless classic. I don't mind Brendon's version either

Not sure why his religion or whether he can or cannot "reason logically" has anything to do w/his singing or talent, but I do wish I'd have seen them @ George Fest...bet they prolly put on some really great live shows? He's got such a unique & distinctive voice, not to mention, did an awesome cover of this one Kim Carnes made a hit out of in the mid-80s.

The intro was playing so softly I had to strain when that raspy voice came crooning out, I've listened to it a couple hundred times since. I associate it with my first conscious intro to the 80's, a musical decade I've come to love. So when I see my guy Brandon covering this I ... it just made me happy :)
