Attach oversize strip then run a router with a bearing bit to flush it up to the drywall...
you cant reach into the corners or the bottom with that tecnique . the baseplate of the tool will not let you. i cut and fit them slightley oversize and scribe in off the wall, cut and plane.ignore any big divotts so the architrave stays as flat to the wall as possible. btw we call them grounds in the uk. peace..
Having spent 12 years working as a Contract Manager in a building built in 1863 (ish) in London, if we have to work on original plaster work repairs or replacement I had to get a sample checked for ANTHRAX BACTERIUM due to the amount of horse hair used in the mix! Apparently the bacteria never dies, but that could be BS, 🤷 anyway treat it like asbestos don’t touch it till someone proves it’s ok . Stay safe
Anthrax can indeed lie dormant for quite a very long time.
agreed, FP3 masks minimum.
Yes, treat like asbestos. Sheet out for easy clean up and reduce contaminating whole room. Think about a proper scaff platform not that Dinky toy. You can then make an enclosure up near the ceiling to contain the crap. Good luck!!
Wow wild!
Nerd
You needed the soundtrack from Austin Powers when they got the Cart stuck in the hallway.
paul poco I myself have been in such a precarious position
Tanto atao para arreglar un marco de puerta usas tanto recurso pa tan poco guau cuanto cobras
U desperately need your beard back🧔🏻🧔🏻🧔🏻
no need to use a tape when doing archs.once the head one is on , cut your two long lengths with 45s a wee bit longer than needed then place the 45 on the ground and mark where it intersects the out side of the 45 on the head trim, try it it really saves time .you can do a whole house doing this pre cut them all then have a big mark off then a big cut up then a nail off, saves getting tape out and about 1000 steps.windows too.
dude u just blew my mind. wtf am i doing?!
Yeah operate the lift from within the cage much easier to do
agree!!
For sure. Then if you get stuck you can rock the scissor over the bumps
And more fun. Remember to have fun.
Yeah, you get a much better view of what's going on when you're standing on the lift.
Adds more weight
Nice driving, Paerau! The next Bruce McLaren.
His anniversary is soon, the great man McLaren.
Thats a take your time Job that Scott, such a beautiful building.
Man you had me confused until I realized you were talking about casing and double reveals.
You mean an architrave? 😅
@@geezerdownunder I feel like such an uneducated moron.
Nice video keep up the good work, greets from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
think that ceiling is going to be a hornet's nest once you start it. big job
It’s always good to sand the existing paint line quirk for the painter
Spoken like a true painter lol.
Where do you get the music for your videos? I want the soundtrack of the entire Scott Brown Carpentry catalogue - it’s so good 👍🏼
first time I've ever commented on a video as usually im learning from it . but its much eaiser if you drive the scissorlift from inside it.
Not a good idea if you’re trying to drive it up an incline though, it’ll be too much weight for the unit to move.
I like the quick release on the compound saw mount. My Bosch one is bolted to the stand. PITA.
I like to just free hand cut it on the tablesaw, take the fence off make your skewed line and go for gold. The trim came out great either way.
Woah - 6:18 watch the bridge wobble up and down.
1863.
Canny, when I was a kid a couple of the houses I lived in were built in the 1500. 🤣
You should do a video on Paerau's van and how he's decked his one out!
Hi, Scott!
A new video from you is my Freude schöner Götterfunken. 😉
Regards,
Etna.
Great videos as always. This one helped me tremendously with my home office renovation. Thank you!
Around here they smash the plasterboard without tearing the face paper and nail the trim tight. It makes me cringe everytime I see it. I'm of the philosophy that spending an extra 20% on foundation and framing will save 20% on finishing which usually cost more than rough work anyway.
Amusing driving the Cart. Looking forward to the ceiling being repaired!😎
I'm now getting email alerts from Amazon NZ because I've clicked on so many links from this channel 😂
Keep up the great work, Scott.
Dont worry, when I type Makita in Duck Duck Go search engine, it directs me to Makita New Zealand instead of Polish site. I mean, unlike USA site, NZ and PL use same model names, but still...
Nz doesnt have amazon :)
U chose bluring instead of zooming in the frame?
You say quirk, I say reveal but we still can get along.
Was the parking warden. Measuring how far that persons tires where to the curb?
They often mark the tyre with chalk and see if it is still there in a few hours.
Probably checking the tread on the tyres
I clicked because i don't know the word "Architrave."
In The States we call it a extension jam, just a bit of trivia. Love the Channel! Keep up the good work.
And the quirk is called a reveal.
and the architrave is called casing.
Semantics! Besides, it’s a margin! And a door surround for the layman
@@michaelbrandrick9594 and I'm sure it has a even more names depending on country and area. Like OP said, just a bit of trivia.
When the archs need painting in any way, you should place masking tape on the back so it can be painted without any issues of pain on a finished wall, hope this little tip helps
JLG make the best scissor lifts and boom lifts.. But near impossible to push.. Like trying to push a car while its in gear haha nice
6:36 so you are saying, "It's business time?" yeah I know what you are trying to say.
1 advert before the start ok ,advert in the middle i can do but not 1 advert at the start then 3 in the middle not good
I only had one at the beginning..
Download add blocking software...like Add Blocker Plus then you will have no more adverts. Easy as.
Did this job ever get returned to? Can't find a video relating to it.
I hate any sort of town job. In town, close to town, suburbs around town, customers from town. They're normally an all round terrible experience and I cant stand how customers treat you out there and question every detail, while standing behind you breathing down your neck. The types that are quick to push you out the door without so much as a thanks. Just my 2 cents from making most of my coin in south Auckland, you actually get offered some hospitality from some decent people from every walk of life. Love the content. Sincerely scummy carpet layer.
BEEEP, BEEEP, BEEEP, BEEEP...
I bet you guys heard that noise in bed that night when you closed your eyes.
Quwerk, we call a reveal..
The Scissor Lift starring Scott Brown and his side kick. Will they overcome this dangerous task or will the Scissor lift destroy the world as we know it. Rated "God Mode"
If you'd lived here, you'd have to fix that roof with the same techniques used when first build, (it's a stupid rule as it means loads of historical buildings go past the point of no return, it be better if youcould make it look the same using modern techniques)
The fact that you can see the bridge flexing in the sped up footage is really cool, good camera shot Scott.
nice catch I never noticed it
That was heat rising distorting the light not the actual bridge
Here in the states we call that a jamb extension and door casing. I would not be so fussy over a couple mill i highly doubt any one would notice the casing slightly tipped . Nice job anyway looks fabulous 👌
Love your vids but i have to say you should operate the lift from in the bucket so much easier and the right way
Like what you've done with the double quirk, seen plenty of tradies take the short cut and "no-more-gaps" the entire thing. lol
Just taking my scissor lift for a walk 😂
It's called a door or window "casing" where I'm at. Architrave sounds much more sophisticated lol
Still waiting for the scott brown skate part to come out tbh
😂 5 straight minutes of 50-50s and flat ground kick flips 🎥
This is the difference between rank amateur and professional. I rebated the back of the architrave then pumped 5-6 tubes of no more gaps around each door
Suspect you know but you'll need a fibrous plasterer rather than a gib stopper...
The "washed" under-purlin over the damage at 10:13 hints to the water path. Sorting out the source of the "wet" would be the first thing to do; done already I'd expect.
Great video as usual, thanks! :)
Surprised the battery made it to the job site
OMG using a plane with no dust extraction....and the mitre saw............what happened!
I use wide stock to produce accurate tapered jamb extensions: First, use track saw to straighten one edge of wide stock (e.g., 1x12); next use track saw to cut tapers. Wide stock will maintain the initial straight edge after ripping, rather than deforming as rip cuts release internal board tensions.
In America a quirk is called a reveal.
Hi Scott, Where did you buy the CA glue from? Thanks
That intro. 🤪❤️😂
Definitely would have liked longer, slower and steadier video of finished look.
What was the parking warden doing? Checking tread depth on the tyre?
Marking the tyre with chalk so when he comes back in 2 hours (or whatever is the max parking there) he knows which vehicles have been parked there too long.
That wasn't the warden, that was the car owner wiping off the chalk mark. 2:24
😍👍👍👍👌
Like the trim solution. Are you not allowed to drive your scissor lifts while riding?
Nice job on the architrave Scott! I always rebait the fuck out of them with a planer haha
Damn parking wardens😬
Cost me a good $600 last year alone.
It's called lath and plaster absolute shit show when you start ripping it out 😂
Quirk=reveal me thinks
We call it a jamb extension over here in crazy town. U.S. I mean lol
Just wondering Scott if you get any work from your videos?
Man, you can see why those scissor lifts are so bloody dangerous when people are not using them with care eh.
Always good videos, keep them coming. Do you ever use glue to join the 45s on the Architrave? Aka 'Finish Carpentry TV' style (it might just be the American way)
Loving your videos... daft question, do you recommend any particular footwear for on the job?
Its a video about footwear on his channel :D
Flip flops, jandals or thongs
@@Creep1989 Which one is it?
Thanks mate ! I'm learning so much. Finished my apprentice in 1978. So different now. Everything by hand and one Bosch jifsaw..if you could afford it. I came off the tool late 80s, got bored. But back at it again now.
I saw the one where he jackhammered the floor of this bathroom. Is there another video on how he did it up?
How do you find the rafter hook on your fixer? Doesn't it swing/pivot around and hit your leg heaps?
Haha being half way and the the batteries die (07:20)..... It happened before 😂
Nice bit of Dewalt gear Scotty Brown!
Wish I could show you mine.
I wish my boss did uneven architraves like that. We've got more of a "plane it then plane it again" policy
My ex went there lol Nice job and love the tip for free scribing the rip.
Love the intro, very classy!!. I was waiting for YT to say Ad will end in 5 seconds !!never any smoke in your Smoko breaks !!
I liked how it looked Paureau was taking you walkies in the scissor lift.
You didn't drain the battery getting to site?
Pretty sure they used to use hemp mixed with plaster. They make the sheets up on site.
Stick the architraves on let the painter deal with the shit
Try your best, caulk the rest
👍👍
Tracks just simply dope bro
Scott, have you ever been to the ASB Arena at Selwyn College? The driveway/hill is kinda steep and I've driven a scissor lift that was about the same size as the one you have up it. Jump in the lifter, have a spotter and go for it. They're bottom heavy and pretty robust.
Yes, but most of these little electronics ones have tiny wheels with no grip, and almost no clearance above the ground, and you could see it when trying to get up over the curb. I don't think its an issue of robustness, just whether they can actually get enough traction from those wheels with the motor it has.
lovely opening sequence
European Union destroyed that song.
How come your not using your track saw ???
Hi Scott love your videos, for the architrave you could of rolled your miter it might of been quicker
Theres a castle next to my home in the UK that was built 11th century 😂😂😂
Got cravings for that Makita planer
wow how that bridge is moving............
ua-cam.com/video/tze-mdF8a50/v-deo.html
Hi Scott videos are great but how do health and safety let you use a table saw without a top guard on in the U.K. we would be stopped straight away by HSE keep vids coming great watching
Ive worked in london on commerical jobs in selfridges and used a table saw without a top guard for a month everyday fine
@8:39 I *SO* wanted to see a recreation of Austin Powers on the golf cart! :)
Traffic their must be an issue id say🤔
soOOoo hot.
Quirk- noun

a shift, subterfuge, or evasion; quibble.
a sudden twist or turn:He lost his money by a quirk of fate.
a flourish or showy stroke, as in writing.
Architecture.-
an acute angle or channel, as one dividing two parts of a molding or one dividing a flush bead from the adjoining surfaces.
an area taken from a larger area, as a room or a plot of ground.
an enclosure for this area
nice to see you shaved, look much younger lol
What trim nailer are you using?
What is the bag called on ur table saw
Do your best and caulk the rest
Paereu Top driving mate ! Great video Scott thanks
I call it high-fiddly door trim.
Very happy to hear you have plenty of work coming up mate.
