- It all started with an audience member who wanted to know if it was rude for her to ask her family and friends to take off their shoes before entering her house. But no one expected her accent to cause this hilarious chain of events!!

Having an accent is nice 😊 And no, she is not crazy by asking people to take their shoes off when going in her house. Her house, her rules.
Exactly, it is respectful to remove your shoes. The same rule applies at my doorstep. No shoes allowed plus you’re not tracking the outside, inside.
Luckily I have never been asked to take my shoes off.

I have o refrain from asking my caseworkers to take off their shoes and make themselves comfortable hahahahaha...although I do tell them to make themselves comfortable. I don't do that stuffy work environment stuff in my home. My home is like Cracker Barrel "when your here, you're family."

Not everybody can understand accents very well. Like me for instance, I am hard of hearing and I have a difficult time understanding accents. I can't even understand some brits, irish and scottish people and they are all pretty much native English speakers. This woman was a good sport, anyone that gets up there to ask Steve a question knows anything is fair game. Quit being so sensitive.
We don't wear shoes in the house in Canada or the Caribbean

Its a Canadian thing, legit. Myself being Canadian, just learned this is a Canadian thing ..I always thought myself it was normal to take shoes off when come in my home, or any other home. Just basically respectful, and sanitary really when think about it, god knows what's on the bottom of the shoes.

I believe he was just celebrating her accent! Her accent is beautiful and he brought attention to it.
You're right. Americans do have accent. Sometimes it's difficult to understand them, but I make it an effort to listen all the time before answering.
It was just a joke. It was clear he understood her right from after she repeated herself the first time.
Sometimes we hide our ignorance behind the joke. He travels extensively so he should be familiar with different accents. Or maybe he genuinely has a hearing problem.

I love Steve and that won’t change but as an African with an accent living in the US and dealing with the difficulty of breaking barriers with my accent I found this offensive when he mocked this beautiful lady over and over again. Am sad!!
I will agree. He did not make fun of the black woman, in a preceding episode, with the British accent. This was offensive! “Comedian, “working the crowd”, or not😒!

Because he knew that he was the ONLY 1 that DIDN'T understand her accent. Sooo, making fun of her was probably the only way to make himself feel better about it. But you know what, Steve is a comedian. That's what comedians do. They'll find anything to say about you and everybody in your family and it's supposed to be taken as a joke.

He is such a goofball! I understood every word she said even with the accent.
Notice how Steve prolong a question, during the ask Steve segment. He can tell, if you can take constructive criticism or not in a joking way, expressions, movement, and feedback. Then, that's when he go into the joke, to pull the audience in. You get a combination of Standup and great advice. "Brilliant Individual." Very few comedians, possess that talent.

Many years ago, we flew from Honolulu back to our home domicile, San Francisco. As I was saying good bye to our customers at the front aircraft door, this elderly woman with an endearing southern accent stopped and asked (holding the traffic flow behind her), “are you the person who was on the PA system?” (however, that wasn’t exactly what she asked😅)
I said, “yes.” She replied in a higher tone - “you’ve got such a strong accent. You should go back to where you came from!”
All I was able to do was to smile at her gently😊
Then, my flying partner who was standing next to me suddenly blurted out; “lady! Do you know how many languages she speaks?!? English, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish!!! Now, other than English with that thick accent, which I can hardly understand, what else do YOU speak?!?” 😨😅
Later, I asked my partner how she knew that I spoke those languages, and she said, “I didn’t.” 😂😂😂😂😂
She’s so quick, witty, and smart😽
Don’t worry. We both gave the lady a hug, and she smiled before saying good bye to us🥰

I agree with you. But I am trying to consider that Steve was trying to come from that comedic perspective where there are no rules. I don't think Steve didn't understand. I think he just used this opportunity to have fun. If he meant it, then that's a different conversation.

The Haitian lady is absolutely on the right path. You don't need any dirt or contaminated stuff from outside come inside your homes through footwear.
One additional thing - Just keep an extra footwear stand near the entrance with a couple of stools/chairs to sit on for visitors/guests.

I feel disgusted by this thing where people have double standards "Oh we don't want racially discriminated against because we are black" then you turn and discriminate your fellow black people for not having the same accent as you. You have yours because of the location you were brought up in could have been just the same if the woman was brought up in the same locale. Family feud has some of the heaviest accents but He understands I feel like people should learn to respect other people's feelings which would work to fixing most of the issues we have.
