I’ve always loved books. Growing up in a small village in northern Vietnam, the library felt like a second home. After moving to Singapore, I found the same joy in visiting public libraries. Lately, I’ve noticed the robot that checks the shelves-seems like it’s there to ensure no books are misplaced. Funny enough, that's exactly what Tom and Jerry do in the video, so it looks like I guessed right! I’ve even started volunteering at Tampines Regional Library, helping to sort books, because being around them just makes me happy. Keep up the great work, NLB!
@beomkomap Not sure where you live, but in my hometown (Tram Tau), which is a very small village, we have a public library that receives a lot of donated books since we’re in a remote area. Later, when I moved to the city, Yen Bai, I visited the provincial library. They had a decent number of books, but everything was still manual back then (around 2005-2006). You’d search for the book you wanted in a long catalog and then ask the librarian to fetch it for you. You could borrow it home if you had a membership-similar to NLB, but without the self-borrowing machines.
@@trungvose Are you sure they have those books for kids? I lived in Ho Chi Minh city and never saw my friends going to any libraries. I noticed parents in VN always need to buy the story books for kids and they are expensive.
Always amazed of the library scale in Singapore. One will know how Singapore focus on education so much if they go to National Library at Bugis. Books for kids are very expensive and really appreciate Singapore to provide plenty of books so that every kid regardless of financial position will have access to reading books to expand their knowledge.
Sorry ah CNA team What is the rationale / purpose for having the car-sharing segment slotted in between the NLB story? When at 1st glance of the title, I thought the entire segment will be NLB-focused. Not like a sudden irrelevant showstopper abt car sharing segment to cut the NLB segment
There could be a dark spin to the reason of having a wheelchair left behind. The person using it might no longer need it as he could have gone to another realm. So the wheelchair was sort of left there as a kind of donation to whoever that needs it.
I have problems falling asleep after years of being abused in class, in army and in library. Because some authoritarian figures would wake you up if you fall asleep. Now the nightmares of being woken up in libraries continue
Wow! That is high capability on the part of the librarians, comparable to that of the PAP govt. This is why PAP has always been the people's choice because it is the only competent party in s'pore.❤❤
Taxpayers money should be spent more on e-books than maintaining these libraries. E-books have many superior features to physical books, yet so much cheaper to maintain than physical books and libraries. I think many librarians are worried about their jobs with e-books and will be resistant to this change. We should not let this worry impede progress. Cut down expense on libraries and invest more in ebooks.
While I agree that this would be good for those with e-readers, not all have such access. For kids from less privileged families, these libraries are superior to their phones.
No doubt they are the best compared to other parties. Even WP makes mistakes. Humans are not perfect anyway. Stop the garbage on others. You choose to be anti-gov and nobody says garbage to you so why should you garbage those who support the gov.

Vietnam has public libraries? I didnt know that. In the past when I need to read books, gotta go to book shops instead.

@@beomkomap I once borrowed Doraemon to read at home, if that counts as a children's book by your standards.

I'm guessing it's the borrowing theme.

This is 50 years ahead of British libraries
Forgetting to return library book could be a recurring theme in nightmares
interesting docu on the library but I really wondered why it's story was break up in parts?
To make us watch a very very long car sharing ad

Ok now i feel kinda bad for anyhow shoving books into the shelf 😮
Why are these other segments about car sharing about libraries, what a weirdly edited video...
All that late fees and yet NLB is still going to cancel Udemy subscription.
