Hi everyone!
It’s 9th March today! Which means…I’ve gotta cover “3月9日(9th March)” by レミオロメン(Remioromen) !!
This song was originally dedicated for the wedding of the band member’s mutual friend. And the wedding date was on 9th March - in Japanese, 3 is pronounced “San” and 9 is “Kyu”. So 3 9 is pronounced “San-Kyu” which sounds like “Thank You” in English. Mr Fujimaki, the vocal of the band, got very impressed when the friend told him “I’m having my wedding on the day of “Thank You”” - That’s why he named the song’s title “9th Mar”.
Interestingly, this song has been a very popular song for graduation ceremonies in schools in Japan. (In Japan, school ends in March.) As this song expresses gratitude towards their loved ones, it’s actually perfect for graduation ceremonies.
I feel it’s very lucky that in Japan we have so many seasonal songs - and Cherry blossom themed songs are one of them. I hope you could feel the start of spring from this song.
