Wander seemed like he could be a good fighter but mixed with how personal Screwball was to him in creating happiness across the universe he probably couldn't grasp his mindset or Screwball is just so much more powerful than Hater and Dominator cuz he's not using any negative feelings due to being hurt but his own willingness to force kindness and had the will to plan ahead unlike the other villains
An interesting detail I noticed in this insanely well animated scene is that out of all the villains Wander's ever interacted with, he actually looks worried whenever Screwball gets too close. And the reason that's interesting is that up until Dominator in The End of The Galaxy, there's never been another villain that can bring out that side in Wander. Just that fact alone shows that Wander shouldn't be taken lightly when he says Screwball is dangerous.
Am I the only one here who really appreciates the visuals in this scene? Like holy shit, those are some really gorgeous color palettes, they contrast so well together and are very eye-catching. And then when his string breaks, Wander's colors become all desaturated. And I love that the music notes are actual objects that collide together and get stuck in the wall, I thought that was clever. And of course, Weird Al Fucking Yankovic makes everything 10X more interesting.
Tbh i really admire the music in this The banjo vs the accordion plus the backing track fitting both of the instruments is just beautiful.. Now, im not saying the visuals aren't lovely. With the polished visuals and beautiful music, it automatically makes this a masterpiece ^^
It was a very nice surprise to see Al in this show. When Dr. Screwball first started talking, I was all: "It kinda sounds like Weird Al, but I should check the credits before jumping to conclusions." Then the accordion came out. And he started singing. And then I was all: "Yep. It's Weird Al alright."
I love how instead of printing out his diploma like a normal person, he just tapes the whole laptop to the wall. It's a nice little added bit of silliness.

So we have Weird Al voice a villainous clown banana with a P.H.D. who is one of the craziest things in an already insane show. And to top it all of, give him a fucking villain song played in a damn accordion.....THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST IDEAS EVER!!!!!!
And why not have the normally super cheerful protagonist turn into Batman for that one episode, and during said villain song the two of them engage in a banjo vs accordion battle?

Wander is absolutely not afraid of Hater or even Dominator and barely tries to defeat them but Dr Screwball makes him try his hardest and actually fight back. And Screwball nearly wins. How dangerous is the Banana?

It may be just me, but this guy is terrifying the more I think of this scene; I'll try and explain why All the other villains want to destroy or make Wander suffer, sometimes for revenge; this guy wants him alive for sinister purposes and perhaps has been after him for a while, because of this line: "Why do you continue to resist me?" Villains like Hater and Dominator just want to rule the galaxy or obliterate it; this one wants to make everyone happy, even againest their free will; in fact, going by what he said before the song, he won't do it to just one galaxy, as opposed to everyone else that seem content with only this one, and he doesn't appear to see himself as evil Wander sees every enemy as a friend he hasn't met yet... but why is this the only one he wants to avoid? I believe that Wander's hero disguise is some sort of coping mechanism, seeing how scared he is of Jones; notice how he hasn't used it for anyone else, which probably means he feels safe around them... yes, I said it. Wander feels safe around DOMINATOR, for the love of Grop Also, everyone on the leaderboard knows or met one another e.g. Hater and Awesome sometimes clash heads with each other, Sourdough hosted a party that about five of them attended, Peepers seems to keep himself updated with information of any competition like Dominator... Wander is the only one that knows Jones and he's a good guy Every other conqueror is fueled by negative emotions like hate, narcisism, greed... how can you defeat someone who uses happiness? Flarp, I still hope that Peepers was supposed to be the main Villain in season 3 instead of this joker that some fans are suggesting! (I have explained why I think Peepers in the comments of another video, a clip from The End of the Galaxy)

I agree with what you said, but I think perhaps the biggest danger is that unlike Awesome's self-aware (and rather adolescent) narcissism, the fact that Screwball considers himself a good guy (and is overwhelmingly more powerful than Brad Starlight) means his potential to turn people off to joy is far greater than the other villains. The other villains want to crush hopes of resistance, while Screwball is unaware that others may resist him by resenting joy altogether. Thus, in a sense Wander and Screwball have similar objectives on the surface: to spread joy. But the underlying basis for the joy Wander wants to spread is based on mutual wellbeing. The underlying basis for Screwball is making others addicted to him like a drug. In that sense he isn't unlike Little Bits, but while she is actively manipulative and her methods have no direct impact when her influence isn't involved Screwball creates a perpetuity to the misery he spreads that even he doesn't realize he is doing, and likely wouldn't care if he did.

I think it's interesting that you mentioned Brad Starlight, because both he and Screwball are, more or less, delusional, although it's possible Brad's growing out of this, even if he still calls Wander and Sylvia a silly sidekick and dumb steed. Now that I think about it, Jones could be the enboiment of toxic joy, which is worse that what the other villains have done. You see, all of them rely on physical pain, even ones like Lil Bits and Sourdough, which can be healed with the right treatment; Screwball, on the other hand, can do emotional pain, something that takes place on the inside of the person who's been infected. How can you fix something that you can't see? At least with Lil Bits, Sylvia has proven that people can be immune to her powers; helps that she tends to use trickery, something that anyone can notice. On a side note, glad I'm not the only one to see that Brad Starlight is a villain, even if he makes Hater look more competant than normal 😅
@Alice Wiegold I mostly agree, but I think the biggest danger of Screwball has much more to do with how his methods combine "joy" with pain, joy being poorly labeled. This can lead to internal confusion on the part of his victims, and if wrongly processed can lead to a lifetime of misery. Brad Starlight, despite his delusion, just makes others annoyed/uncomfortable. Most villains cause pain directly. I have my own theories regarding the Black Cube, but it is off topic. It isn't the inability to see it as much as the potential to poison people's emotions to hate joy itself that I see as the main issue.
The fact that Wander easily escapes extremely powerful beings like Hater and Dominator while just playing around and being nice. How powerful is Dr Jones if he can match Wander when he's actively trying to defeat him.
Dang, that makes this fight more scary... I hate to think what would have happened if Wander couldn't escape; he was lucky Sylvia was with him, otherwise it could have turned out really bad...
I take it that he takes it seriously because Dr. Screwball makes a bastardization of what his purpose in his life is by presenting it by simply being tickled for all eternity. That's like being jumpscared for all eternity. Sure you should be scared for a moment but it'll quickly be quickly repetitive and torturous.
I always wonder what would have happened if Dr.Screwball hadn't stopped at the last second for the comedic effect like he did... Wander was down for the count and Screwball could have easily finished him off

something that I felt like was on purpose was that the "power of fun" of sorts is an insane kind of power, Wander uses this to help others as much as he can, always pulling things out of his hat, always coming out on top in the end, and yet screwball has found this out and used this to his advantage, making his entire arsenal an array of jokes and slapstick items, all part of the "power of fun" which even at not its highest form can defeat someone strong and ruthless enough to want to destroy the entire universe!
Wander would probably be so shocked that he wouldn't fight back, instead just try to destroy the machine... which could make a big enough distraction for Jones to overpower him easier than this scene... (Spoilers from My Fair Hatey) I know it's odd to say this, but Dominator actually did everyone a favour by capturing him, although I imagine that was no easy task.

Here's a fun little theory about the magical musical instruments: How powerful an instrument is in a sense like Wander and Dr.Jones are using them here is directly related to how complex they are to play; meaning that even the smaller Concertina that Screwball is wielding is more powerful than a string instrument like Wander's banjo; a concertina is still way more complicated to play than a banjo is, even if an accordion is more complex than its smaller cousin
I just realized that this guy's machine is a perfect counter to Lord Hater's abilities. Hater wouldn't even be able to get angry to destroy anything, he would always be laughing, forever. As ridicilous as Screwball is, he is an actual threat if he wants to be
And to finish the episode off, the ultimate PowerPuff Girls reference. Craig McCracken created that show too. Tom Kenny voiced the narrator in PPG, and now he voices Peepers, who says: "Looks like once again, the day is saved. Thanks to..." I love it!
I watched this episode and I can honestly say, Wander, you are truly amazing and the best hero I’ve ever seen. You’re so epic the way you made up that joke at the beginning when you challenged Screwball to a fight. Did you know that we used to have a pony named Screwball in Equestria before my magic disappeared? Boy, that mare was crazy just like this villain. Did that villain, Screwball make plots to make people laugh all the time? He kinda reminds me of a villain in mind that I used to study. His name was Discord. He was the spirit of disharmony and chaos. Maybe Screwball needs to be reformed. But you know, not all villains are like that. Still, Wander, as a awesome hero, you make a good friend and a friends help a friend in need. I’m so proud that you accomplished defeating Screwball and rescued your loyal steed, Sylvia in time. I agree with what you said, but I think perhaps the biggest danger is that unlike Awesome's self-aware (and rather adolescent) narcissism, the fact that Screwball considers himself a good guy (and is overwhelmingly more powerful than Brad Starlight) means his potential to turn people off to joy is far greater than the other villains. The other villains want to crush hopes of resistance, while Screwball is unaware that others may resist him by resenting joy altogether.
Thus, in a sense Wander and Screwball have similar objectives on the surface: to spread joy. But the underlying basis for the joy Wander wants to spread is based on mutual wellbeing. The underlying basis for Screwball is making others addicted to him like a drug. In that sense he isn't unlike Little Bits, but while she is actively manipulative and her methods have no direct impact when her influence isn't involved Screwball creates a perpetuity to the misery he spreads that even he doesn't realize he is doing, and likely wouldn't care if he did.
@@101jir You do raise up a lot of good points. I think it's interesting that you mentioned Brad Starlight, because both he and Screwball are, more or less, delusional, although it's possible Brad's growing out of this, even if he still calls Wander and Sylvia a silly sidekick and dumb steed.
Now that I think about it, Jones could be the enboiment of toxic joy, which is worse that what the other villains have done. You see, all of them rely on physical pain, even ones like Lil Bits and Sourdough, which can be healed with the right treatment; Screwball, on the other hand, can do emotional pain, something that takes place on the inside of the person who's been infected. How can you fix something that you can't see?
At least with Lil Bits, Sylvia has proven that people can be immune to her powers; helps that she tends to use trickery, something that anyone can notice.
On a side note, glad I'm not the only one to see that Brad Starlight is a villain, even if he makes Hater look more competant than normal 😅
@Alice Wiegold I mostly agree, but I think the biggest danger of Screwball has much more to do with how his methods combine "joy" with pain, joy being poorly labeled. This can lead to internal confusion on the part of his victims, and if wrongly processed can lead to a lifetime of misery. Brad Starlight, despite his delusion, just makes others annoyed/uncomfortable. Most villains cause pain directly. I have my own theories regarding the Black Cube, but it is off topic.
It isn't the inability to see it as much as the potential to poison people's emotions to hate joy itself that I see as the main issue.
The fact that Wander easily escapes extremely powerful beings like Hater and Dominator while just playing around and being nice.
How powerful is Dr Jones if he can match Wander when he's actively trying to defeat him.

I hate to think what would have happened if Wander couldn't escape; he was lucky Sylvia was with him, otherwise it could have turned out really bad...
I take it that he takes it seriously because Dr. Screwball makes a bastardization of what his purpose in his life is by presenting it by simply being tickled for all eternity. That's like being jumpscared for all eternity. Sure you should be scared for a moment but it'll quickly be quickly repetitive and torturous.
I always wonder what would have happened if Dr.Screwball hadn't stopped at the last second for the comedic effect like he did... Wander was down for the count and Screwball could have easily finished him off

something that I felt like was on purpose was that the "power of fun" of sorts is an insane kind of power, Wander uses this to help others as much as he can, always pulling things out of his hat, always coming out on top in the end, and yet screwball has found this out and used this to his advantage, making his entire arsenal an array of jokes and slapstick items, all part of the "power of fun" which even at not its highest form can defeat someone strong and ruthless enough to want to destroy the entire universe!

Here's a fun little theory about the magical musical instruments:
How powerful an instrument is in a sense like Wander and Dr.Jones are using them here is directly related to how complex they are to play; meaning that even the smaller Concertina that Screwball is wielding is more powerful than a string instrument like Wander's banjo; a concertina is still way more complicated to play than a banjo is, even if an accordion is more complex than its smaller cousin
I just realized that this guy's machine is a perfect counter to Lord Hater's abilities. Hater wouldn't even be able to get angry to destroy anything, he would always be laughing, forever.

I watched this episode and I can honestly say, Wander, you are truly amazing and the best hero I’ve ever seen. You’re so epic the way you made up that joke at the beginning when you challenged Screwball to a fight. Did you know that we used to have a pony named Screwball in Equestria before my magic disappeared? Boy, that mare was crazy just like this villain. Did that villain, Screwball make plots to make people laugh all the time? He kinda reminds me of a villain in mind that I used to study. His name was Discord. He was the spirit of disharmony and chaos. Maybe Screwball needs to be reformed. But you know, not all villains are like that.
