well, you need a way to destroy it. if you're fighting someone (like for a competition, not in a long-lasting world) and you have extra netherite gear in your inventory that you don't want to give to them but isn't helping you, the best option would be to destroy it so no one can have it.
Two things that annoy me are 1: sandstone can't be made into sand. If you've ever handled sandstone IRL you'll know it sheds sand constantly. 2: Glass bottles can't be formed into glass blocks. IRL glass is one of the easiest things to reform into new forms.

I will never understand why the game will say “you may not rest now; the bed is too far away”, when it obviously can’t be if you’re close enough to interact with it.
Probably to prevent odd exploits like sleeping through a wall in bedrock at the bottom of the world and falling through the void. Not saying it's a good reason, but it's a reason.

It's not necessarily "not common," it's a farmable resource that's fairly common where it generates. But they didn't want you being able to get it without finding a nether fortress. It's more about progression than just rarity.

Gold tools are trash. They need to be buffed!!! And if copper tools ever get added to the game, it would only be fair for them to inherit the former properties of the Gold ones, given how common copper is and yet how limited its uses are.
