I was never into Jeff. It's annoying to have someone tell you that every workout you've ever learned is wrong and killing your gains. And everything he shows you is a better option. Gtfoh!! How is it that this guy supposedly know more about fitness than anyone else who has done it throughout history? It's annoying!

    • @GVS

It's needlessly complicated. Honestly. The basics don't sell but they are THE BASICS for a reason, because they are better than all this circus bullshit most of the time. Sprinkle in the occasional weird movement for fun and variety but don't make it the bread and butter. That's just asking for a lack of progress.

Jeff just commented on Greg Doucette's latest video saying he'll take a drug test for him, completely ignoring the fake weight plate scandal. Drug test doesn't prove anything cause drug tested athletes get around those all the time. I wanna see Jeff take on Alec Enkiri's deadlift challenge but I seriously doubt he will.

    • @GVS

I needed to sift through all the bullshit - the external (industry’s aesthetic fetish) and internal (my own vanity) to eventually find channels like yours with real no-frills solid information. Honestly it took me years to get here. Although I’d like for channels like yours to be more accessible to the public, there was a lot of self-development that I had to go through to get here and looking back I think there’s merit in the journey.

You’d think he be a bit bigger and stronger after all that time even with supposedly “terrible genetics”. I did Jeff’s programs for 2 years and just recently switched over to one of Jeff Nippard’s programs and it’s night and day. I’ve only been doing it for 2 weeks and I’ve been able to add 5 lbs onto ALL of my lifts each week (my all time PR for the squat is 185 for 8 - never tested my 1RM, yeah I was never really strong, but who cares). Because of COVID and gyms being closed since March, I’m pretty detrained, but the fact that I’m seeing such good progress already after doing Cavaliere’s programs for 2 whole years (and working my ass off at them) makes me think they’re complete shit.

By the time I'm writing this comment I have like 1 year experience in lifting weights, so basically a newbie. I remember I used to follow Jeff's channel and it seemed legit, until I got to this whole fake weights affair. I wasn't a subscriber, but just watched some of his videos now and then showing form. After this scandal, for me Jeff has lost all credibility. Logic being, since I'm not knowledgeable about those subjects, how can I know when he's right and when he's lying? I'm just following other channels now (mainly Sean N).
Also, I remember that I actually tried some of his controversial indications in the gym and it seemed really bad and borderline dangerous (especially breathing out before squatting with heavy weights). It felt so uncomfortable and unsafe that I was confused and looked for other sources of info, so this is how I found the whole fake weights scandal and everything.

Funny that you mentioned that Athlean Anabolix program. Just found out that his "intensity" technique to create strength and muscle in that program is called Triple X Set. I believe you talked about it in one of your videos, but it gets crazier than what you thought lol.
Basically, you get 90% of 1RM and with a timer, or phone in front of you, you start it and do 3 reps. When you're done, look at the timer and rest till it gets to 30 seconds, then do another 3 reps until it hits 60 seconds, and so forth until you can only do one rep. Again, it's 3 reps every 30 second and whatever time you have left after you finish is your rest time till it hits another 30 seconds. That is ONE Triple X set.

    • @GVS
      @GVS  4 роки тому +3

Yes, so I've heard. Just a silly protocol, for many people 90% IS their 3 rep max...once!
Whoever wrote that clearly doesn't know DICK about programming, strength training, or...anything, really. That fact that THE BIGGEST UA-camR is writing shit like that and people are paying for it because they think he used that to develop his fake fucking strength really pisses me off. It's dogshit.

There was one workout he recommended in a UA-cam video called “How many reps to build muscle (BODYWEIGHT EXERCISES)”, which struck me as pretty excessive, having given it a go.
Basically, it consists of taking the bodyweight exercise of your choice and doing one set to failure. You then take the number of reps you managed, and multiply it by somewhere between 3 (basic) and 10 (extreme), which is your target for the workout. You try to reach that number in as few sets as possible, with a maximum of 90 seconds rest between sets. I tried it with pullups, which I’m pretty decent at (I can do 20 on a good day), but even getting to the 3x was a struggle, since going to failure on the first set had left me pretty shot, and I needed far more than 90 seconds rest. Doing a workout of 200 pullups total would have taken me all day.
At the time, I wanted to try it, since I trusted that Jeff knew what he was talking about, but now I’m a lot more sceptical. Would be interested in your opinion, Geoff.

You just named a HUGE fact that people dont seem to recognize. Many people, especially in the fitness business are plain stupid. What hurts me the most is that some of them are educated. I just cant understand why. jeff claims to have studied all those things he mentioned and out of the blue deadlifts with a round back, makes a program squatting 10 reps for 10 sets at 70% to 80% max and then curls 60kg as if he can curl as much as ct fletcher. but honestly, speaking as an upcoming pro powerlifter, how much you lift doesnt show 'fitness', it shows strength. i have to admit, after a 5 year experience in powerlifting, fitness is not for everyone, strength is not for everyone, and looking good is not for everyone. i firmly believe, jeff does not have any fitness crediblity other than his followers and subscribers. no coach with common sense can make such stupid programs. fitness is indeed a way of life. exercise keeps people young but it does within a horrible way; you just have to sweat. im telling you, some people just dont want to sweat. a proper fitness gym shouldnt have air conditioning, because exercise is not a luxury. the term 'functional' is what ecourages people to work out nowadays, not exercise its self. good, smart and wisely chosen vocabulary is what wins, not the actual product.

Credentials also mean very little, I've seem people with TONS of letters after their name who didn't know shit! Again, look at what he SAYS. Recommending 10x10 on squats with 70-80% 1RM with 1 minute rest? It's blatantly horrible advice, and he's done this a lot. Watch him for entertainment or abs, but not for strength training. PT is also fine, but get a second opinion on whatever he says, don't take his word as gospel or you risk becoming a sheep.

In a word, yes. He has occasionally decent advice, he runs ads, he has abs, he's very confident and glib, he has a private gym with great lighting and, well...fake plates. And, most importantly...he was EARLY. He's been at this a decade+. Sometimes being EARLY is important...he's reinvested his financial gains into ads (you've probably seen them) and used clickbait overhyped BS since day one.

He was at the right place, at the right time... that's it.
Do you remember "sixpackshortcuts"?? There were tons of "OG" fitness channels back then, with not much competition, and tons of followers...
The guy got lucky, that's it. He was just smarter than the other ones, and got his connection in professional sport that gave him (false) credibility.
He had the face and the body. He would NEVER have 10M today if he was called out for his BS videos 6-8 years ago.
But at the time, there was no discussion about "fake weights", it was relatively new on youtube. Serious lifters didn't have a big following, or even a presence on youtube.

I feel like you kinda just have to use discernment because you can tell some things are bs and not to take anyone's info 100 percent of the time the same way when you do research for a paper in college you don't cite just one source primarily so you kinda have to learn to sift through what's good and what's not and draw conclusions. Jeffs videos didn't apply much to me after I began weight training because i searched and found other programs and learned a little on programming for strength training and some excercises didn't make sense for me to do since it didn't seem applicable to my goals so gradually just didn't watch his stuff for some years.

You know? I first got into fitness because of Jeff Cavaliere, and I love his videos. Used to think he told the truth always, but I realize he's not as honest as I thought. However, I must recognise that Jeff is good at getting you abs. Specially when it comes to working out at home, which is what I do, so, I won't hate on him, will keep to watch his videos every now and then, but I'll certainly start watching your channel more, and Jeff Nippard's. Fuck Jeff Seid btw 😂
