- This is a $40 emulation console called the Arcade Box, has over 30,000 games. Today we unbox and test out things I think are typically problems when it comes to these kinds of devices.

With all do respect MLP the link takes me to a Phone case page lol. I'm thinking it's possible they might've taken it down or it sold out??

Forgot I ordered one based on this video. Got an email this morning saying it cleared customs. Looking forward to playing with it. Thanks for the review.
i loved the bezzles for all the games in this video. do you know if this $40 box comes with bezzles pre configured as well?
Im getting into these emulation boxes so looks like I'll be getting this one. Im looking to save money on games and the associated hardware. Thank you for reviewing this for us!
i loved the bezzles for all the games in this video. do you know if this $40 box comes with bezzles pre configured as well?
Dik Doc - I guess urologist was already used.
It gives new meaning to the word stream
I like these kind of devices. Problem is there are so many of them! Which one to choose!!!
Granted I have many of the original consoles and games but something like this is just so convenient! No switching cartridges or disks and waiting for them to load. One thing to hook up instead of several consoles and all their cables and power plugs.
I can tolerate the glitches and problems for the convenience.
you could use it when youre on vacation and your hotel/motel TV's got HDMI
or if youre at someone's place
Have just ordered this based on your review...as a retro gamer I have my fingers crossed!
i loved the bezzles for all the games in this video. do you know if this $40 box comes with bezzles pre configured as well?
@@DonTravelsTheWorld yeah, they are all there when you start it up. Have received mine now, very happy with it.
Ever since the Ouya people have been using android boxes to make game consoles out of them that is the only thing Ouya has done for the gaming market.
Its a good price point for a plug and play. And it seems to run the Dreamcast stuff better then some other stuff I have seen that costs more. This is for people that dont want to do the work it takes to do a Pi set up. And that is valid way to approch it.
I can see the wisdom of a pre made setup. Not everyone has the time or know how to set up a RPI and throw the games on themselves.
The only caveat with these pre made set ups is if you need help or if the controls or something goes sideways your SOL.
That would be me then. When I was younger, I would have enjoyed the challenge, but now, I cba. :)

Great video. Wouldn't mind getting one of these just to see pc-engine cd games and some of the Dreamcast stuff . Saves a lot of looking around for roms etc, Especially as retro games are so expensive nowadays
Unfortunately, it only has 3 Dreamcast games.
@@user-rh4fc2dg8e really? :( what games?
@@user-rh4fc2dg8e wtf. Can u load more onto it tho
If you're looking for retrogaming up to ps1 power, you really can't go wrong with these systems.
It should be nearly as good as a raspberry pi 4. You could play most Dreamcast games on lowest resolution no problem.
@@wolffactor56 do all these games come already installed on this device?
@@DC4LHO33 yes they do. Only issue I had and it's minor is the game descriptions aren't in English. Beyond that it's a great system for the money. If you can find Amlogic S905X3 or X4 for a little more I would recommend them more.

I certainly ordered this... Best deal ever? As a gamer I say yes 🥶 It's unlimited fun.
I just bought this for .myself for Christmas! It was 20 bucks more, bc ali express wasn't keen on my payment method, so I bought it somewhere else. The pawky pad looks cool too! Ps2 and gamecube? Yes please!
Seems like an awesome device. So much choose from. I hope they're still available in a few weeks.

Thanks! I ordered one, hopefully I'll get it by Christmas 🎄
Got the Pawky Box version with 50,000 + games with wireless USB pads well the the pennies
I'm currently looking into the likes of these devices/pandoras boxes etc. People say this is for people too lazy to setup a Pi, but have you SEEN THE PRICE OF A DECENT RPI these days?! I'm not paying $150+ for a BOARD that I have to then build up and configure to my liking just to play retro games on when I could do the same with an older PC but I like the $40 portability of this device for sure!
Interesting. The price is good. I just pulled the trigger. It's got games and entire consoles my 256 gig Pi 3 doesn't and I don't have the time to figure out how to add.
I wonder if the supply chain problem will affect you order from China?
@@cre8iveone699 I dunno? Says ship date is 7-14 days, but I got mine off of a different site, bc ali express doesn't like my debit gift card
I just ordered one. It's an awesome deal. I am paying for a console with 30,000 games.
Let's say I wanted to purchase 30,000 games. Lets just say each game you would pay $ 20 dollars. That would be $ 60,000 dollars. I do not have that kind of money. So even if 1000 games work. It is still a great deal. I will back up the games to my computer and I will always have the games. Money in the bank. Thank you MLP.
I had never seen Dolphin Blue from Atomis Wave, looks awesome I want to play that game now!
same
Wow! OK.
Well, I just watched this video and went and bought one of these sets. The 8GB Raspberry Pi was about $160, then I have to assemble it, download the software, install the software, find the game ROMs, download and install the game ROMs…and the controllers are sold separately.
For $40, what’s not to like?
If you intended for your machine to serve only as a retro museum, for very low cost and without expectation to handle tougher hardware, absolutely. I have also heard that for this purpose, a 2 GB RPi 4 should be sufficient.
Just got mine today and I gotta say for $40 it's pretty decent. By no means perfect but it is what it is and with some fine tuning most games have run decent. Appreciate the recommendation thanks for the video!
Can you add games?
What exactly did you have to tune in?
i loved the bezzles for all the games in this video. do you know if this $40 box comes with bezzles pre configured as well?
@@cyberbarbaro yea you can
@@DonTravelsTheWorld It does! Everything he shows is how it comes by default
What am I missing here? Ok it’s emulation, but otherwise it’s a plug and play solution with 30,000 games on it for $40. The games seem to run fine. From what I can tell there’s almost no downside here. I’ll check it out and if it does anything close to what you say and show in this video, I’ll feel like a chump buying all the stuff I own to play these game on an HDTV.
I bought this and an arcade stick and it’s the best money I ever spent. I play it for hours every day and I’m constantly finding hidden gems on it. Endless fun. Sunset Riders, Wrestlefest, and so many more brilliant games. I’ve ordered SNES and NES usb controllers for it. Cant wait for them to arrive. If you’re on the fence about getting it, get it. You won’t regret it.
Does it have the simpsons and x men arcade roms on there as well?
Thank you very much. Will two more wireless controllers work for you, to play with a total of four controllers. Since for each pair of controllers is a USB receiver.
Bro love your vids you should do more of this cheap emulators handhelds or box
Best advice is to make a full back up of the sd card incase the original becomes corrupted in the future.
Definitely
@@Madlittlepixel hey the link brings up Pokemon cards. Do you have another link bro? Either of them are working for me.
@@bkay4440 AliExpress links will be weird and will depend on your region. Best bet is to goto the site and search dik doc store
@@Madlittlepixel i got it. Thanks. I appreciate it!
How do I make a full back up of the sd card?
The EmuElec frontend runs well with this chipset. N64 runs better with the S905X chip, which is on more higher-end SBCs or Android media boxes
2:40 When I saw the crash games I was automatically sold
I'm ordering mine tomorrow! I'm kinda excited ☺️☺️
i loved the bezzles for all the games you showed. this $40 box comes with bezzles pre configured as well?
Looking forward for this answer too.
@@ph_stuff seriously. if it comes pre-configured with all those bezels, I am buying asap!
It does! Everything he shows is configured like that out of the box, and you can add your own if you want too
Looks good enough and cheap enough for me. Thank you!
I bought two of these with the idea of using them for bartop arcade cabinets cuz they were cheap. I fried the cheap sd cards on both just trying to change some basic settings. I ended up buying a Super Console X Cube for that purpose and I haven’t had an issues with that yet. I definitely don’t recommend changing the settings on this device. I’ll eventually just reflash this system onto a better quality SD card. Just spend a few dollars more if you want a cheap Android gaming box imo
Great video.Would love a video on a deeper dive on the settings and configuration.
Good looking dude ! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 i was about to get the Pow Kiddy Y6 but this one ia better since you can set things up 😉 thx man i appreciate 👍🏽
I'd buy THAT for a dollar! Well, actually, make it forty more of them.
Hey, are you reviewing the new 12TB launchbox and hyperspin drives on aliexpress?
Still sticking with my PC I like low to high emulation I use retrobat as my frontend its very good I'm very happy with it and I use it with windows 11 no issues at all.
Can you add more USB ports to play 4 player games? I couldn’t get that functionality to work on the Super Retrocade
I would also like to know this. Or at least know which bluetooth controllers are also compatible. My android Bluetooth controller did not connect
Does it have all the Game Boy Advance, SNES, N64, GameCube & PS1 games? If so then I need to grab one right away. Just really want to play Chrono Trigger & the classic Game Boy Advance games.
No GameCube lol
Near complete US libraries for GBA and SNES, 100 N64 games, and 47 PS1. Easy to add your own tho
@@hotdoggington6962 I've been told this before, but I have no idea how to work emulation or ROMs in general. Last time I tried to emulate / download ROMs on my cell phone it completely ruined my phone making everything else load wayyyy to slow. At this point I'd rather buy the device/Raspberry & not risk destroying my laptop or another phone lol. Do you happen to know if Chrono Trigger is on this emulation console? I mainly just want to play Chrono Trigger, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Advanced Wars, Battle Toads, Pokemon Paper Mario & Fire Emblem really.
Thank you very much sir I just picked one up. Love the channel.
Great video thank you.
I have ordered this a week ago. It seems decent especially for the price.
Thanks! I just got one of these! Ships by mid month!
It has many problems, but it is still a 100% better investment than the Amico.
why do you think that?
what problems?
Great review. I'd love to see a list of games that are featured.
does include arcade games like the Simpsons or Turtles in Time? thanks
Oh gosh yeah, you'd have to get pretty obscure (or modern) to find games it doesn't have. The Konami beatemups work flawlessly far as I can tell.
It does I have one
I own Retroid Pocket 2 and Evercade but they are solid mobile devides. This Arcade Box seems perfect for a spare tv, especially for the money.
Simple question : will it run on an arcade cabinet if I connect my USB joypad adapters on it?
That would save me so much time. I love Pis but man some images just won't run.
This board probably is perfect for modding an Arcade 1up
Kinda. Route it so you can have access to the power button.
I'd borderline buy this just for the fact that I don't have to go around ISO hunting haha
theres a thing with more consoles made by the same company called pawky box. I heard it's got more game consoles
I have a lot of input lag with the wireless controllers.. some people with the same problem?
Dude. If it has soulja boy games then I'm in.
The Roms Alone Are Worth More Than $40. Its A No Brainer. Snatch One Up!
Hi. Is this better than the Kinhank brand? The cube one
Thanks for sharing! I plan to get one next payday.
Thank yo for reviewing this ive had my eye on it for a wile but theres nobody reviewing it
I think it makes a lot of sense, looks complete.
I personally don't need something like this because I'm very familiar with how to set up and use emulators but I looked at it and the delivery date says around December 15 and my Girlfriend's been needing something like this to play games on for a while, she's only got an old ps2 with, from what I understand, hardly any games for it so an emulation box like this would be perfect! She's really fond of retro games, she just has nothing to play them on. I'm not gonna tell her I got it for her though, I want her to be surprised lol
Why don’t you set up the PS2 to play emulated systems? I’m sure it’s capable of running quite a few of the old 8- and 16-bit machines… you could have the satisfaction of repurposing that old console and extending its useful life. Not to mention saving on clutter!
Can you got a replacement controller?
How do I make a back up copy of the sd card?
Only £30 on the U.K. site. What a steal 👍
Where please
@@petesilvers5053 I clicked on the link provided by mad pixel and changed the currency to pound sterling. It’s gone up to 35£ quid now. Delivery is estimated around December 14. Still waiting for mine 👍 hope it helps.
Thanks......I went Ali UK app and 38+tax =45 but went wireless....hoping it's ok? Looks the biz but usually only 20 games worth your time out of 30k
DOOD! It has Sinclair too.
This is a pretty interesting, insanely cheap device. Thank you for looking at it. I wish one could buy it without the controller.
I feel like with arcade games in emulation reviews, it's very common that Sega System 32 arcade hardware gets skipped. Games like Sega's Spider-Man beat-em-up, or Outrunners, or Golden Axe 2: The Revenge of Death Adder. Generally, people just try CPS2 and Neo Geo, which is as likely to run as well as NES/SNES. They run perfectly on a $5 Raspberry Pi Zero for instance. Did you happen to try other arcade games?
If your not getting the right landing page for the item. You might live in a country, region or state the might not let you ship things from ali express. And your getting filtered out. Or maybe your VPN is keeping you from getting to the right thing.
Thanks. I might try this one👍☺
I randomly tried 007 The World is Not Enough for the N64 (maybe b/c it happened to be at the top) and it was an abomination. Totally unplayable. Yeah, Cruisin USA...same thing. I wonder how many others of the 30,000 are like that. Armor Attack on the Vectrex had some kind of sound issue and that is not exactly graphics intensive.
I had the same issues with N64 games, Conkers bad fur day is unplayable, it's always been a hard console to emulate.
For the money it's great...I'm going to buy one...
My graphic looks nothing like that , is something wrong with my mines ?
Thanks for sharing, does the box support highscore for the games ?
Emulation is the way to go.I have this one and very happy with it .
It can be as cheap as it wants, but if you can't make it play games that comes with it without problems on a number of games, I'll pass. If you give me something that is a little more expensive, but works 100%, I'm more likely to buy it
Ally express has this in the specs on the game unit ,
Note that the console base on open source system, games pre-installed only for testing, you must own the games you play in order to comply with the law.
it it basically saying there only a test game not the complete game ?
I saw this yesterday on Ali Express and was thinking about getting it but wasn't sure what the 30k of games would be. Now that I know, I'll be ordering it.
Ok order one for me to
Much appreciated
Thanks for the video I may buy one of these
Hey new sub here, great video, I just received my arcade box this week. I was wondering is there an option to search games? Pls post if you know, thank you!
Hello! Great review, thank you. Wondering if you had any idea how to control the c64 games? I cnnot get them to function.
Can you switch off the bezels? Can you save your game state progress?
Can you use this device with either a Hori Pro Kai 4 or an X Arcade?
8 gigs ram on this 40 dollar system? did i hear that right? what chipset is it? is it similar to a raspberry pi, or is it some proprietary system?
I bet it was just some old DDR3 ram chip sets laying about now that the knock off vendors have access too. DDR5 is on the horizon so its prob filtering down now, so expect DDR4 in a few years to be the BUDGET Ram memory in knock offs.
Makes an excellent gift.
The menu system looks just like a pi, I'm so tempted to buy one and stick in my arcade that I'm currently building, will them arcade buttons and joypads work with em just like a pi? If it does then this seems the way to go.
Wander if Theirs bezels on the arcade game as well
Hi MLP, what is the theme used for this system? Could you provide a link?
I know you say the old systems run fine but would be useful to do an input lag test.
All you need to do is set your phone camera to 60fps, hit record, open it up in VLC then go frame by frame to count how many frames it takes for something to happen after pressing a controller button.
Raspberry Pi 4B with Retropie is about 2-4 frames of lag with an ordinary lcd tv so would be interesting to know how much better or worse this is.
EDIT: Them 2-4 frames are after a lot of tweaking, using runahead, a wired controller to minimise lag, and keeping track in a spreadsheet. Normal lag is more like 6-8 frames before tweaking.
How is the lag on a crt?
@@MegaFinalRound Old LCD panels like mine could easily be responsible for for 1-2 frames of lag. Pi 4b has a bug with analog video out FYI so not great with CRT.
Does anybody know how to stretch the screen?
I removed the bazels but now I have 2 black stripes right and left, and I see the image is compressed horizontally. I am using a Dell 1709FP.
Thanks!!!

just got it last night .. i played it for 5 hours and it is absolutely awesome and the games that i played worked perfectly .. except crusing usa for the N64 ..
all fighting games played smoothly .. zelda ocarina of time plays perfectly which was a very pleasant surprise .. I got the one with the wireless controllers , you will need AAA batteries .. one nice thing too it came alot sooner than expected .. only 2 weeks =) ..
I'm always very hesitant when it comes to these Chinese knockoff devices.
rightfully so, most are junk just rom dumps. Just hope when people are looking for these things they take a look and get a good idea of what they are getting themselves into. Gotta have expectations in check for sure.
@@Madlittlepixel Well, you do a very good job reviewing them. It helps people navigate the Chinese minefield junkyard and find something halfway decent.
Some do work and this one is so cheap how can you go wrong, especially after seeing at work on this review ? Also, I have the Retroid Pocket 2 and works great. Remember everything is built in china these days, ptobably your phone and tablet too.
I bought this system based on your recommendation, it does play great. I have a question, does it play game genie codes?
I like to see this being played on a projector
Looked it up using the link in the description and it’s one that looks like the same thing with more games for 20 dollars more called the Pawky Box Game Console 🤔 decisions decisions
I am waiting on one of the new Pawky boxes to come in, ill review it and compare value to this Arcade Box in the very near future
awesome, thank you. did you check if it can 'save state' ? cheers
Great video 👍
So it be a good thing to keep the kids entertained
Looks semi decent for the price. At least they use a popular build of EmuElec front end that allows you to tweak and optimise the settings. I assume all the games in this review were tested using the out of the box settings. The way it came setup from the seller.
Yes, didnt make any tweaks for the filming of the video. Plan to do some follow up testing things out.
I just ordered one. I just built an arcade cabinet with raspberry pi. Will this work with arcade stick and buttons?
Yep get the intec switch arcade stick, plan on building me one.
If you add own ROMs to this device can you also add game artworks? Do the games automatically show up in the menus?
Hello, good video, it looks like it's a good video game console, but you didn't say if the console got hot after a while of playing with it
I snagged one for $40 I can’t get a primo steak at the meat joint and this will have longer lasting satisfaction…
Very interesting! I would buy it.
Ordered one. Hope it works with different controllers if I use a Magic NS stick.
Can you do a video on how to add games to it, more specifically shadow warriors for mame emu. It's in the games list but all I get is a old school dos style error prompt that won't boot up the game, it just goes back to game list when trying to start it. I'm assuming it's because the lynx emu has it as well but listed under ninja gaiden and obviously the graphics aren't as good, I've noticed that with some other games as well. It's really the whole reason I bought this thing, lol. Help a bother out!
