Did Tudor make a better GMT than Rolex?

- Tudor made a dang good GMT with this BB Pro. Considering the design, size, clasp, and lume... did Tudor make a better 'Explorer 2' for half the price? Is this the true modern successor to the intent of the Rolex 1655? Let's hear your thoughts below.
My recommended Tudor AD is Brent Miller Jewelers in Lancaster PA. Reach out to my good friend Brad about any Tudor model-

Bruce would sell it within a week.
I own this watch. I have to say Tudor got this one right. The thickness is not a issue for me. My wrist size is 6.25 inches it looks great on my small wrist. The clasp is great with the adjustment system that is second to none including Rolex. You get 70 hours in a GMT watch. I really like the look being 1655 inspired but it is a new watch with a the positives of modern watchmaking. I think this is one of best Tudor releases they have done since the Black bay 58. Also great job on the video Bruce. Keep up the great work.
It just may be the greatest modern tudor release. Since the eta pelly imo
100% echo this. I’ve also got it and feel I can scratch the 1655 itch at a fraction of the price of a Steve McQueen
I just picked this watch up yesterday on the bracelet. Was looking at a pre-owned one but it had just been sold. Called an AD down the street and they had one on the bracelet. I have a 6.3" wrist and now issues with size. I don't have any problem with the rivets. You don't even notice them on wrist. It would be great if it was a bit thinner but still looks great as is.
Thanks for the great Video review!
I bought the BB Pro on the metal bracelet and then ordered the hybrid strap from my AD. Once I put it on there was no turning back. It just looks great!
Congrats on 100k subscribers Bruce!!
Thanks Bruce. Can't wait to see what they do at Watches and Wonders.
Same here
Great review Bruce! The Utah edition looks great exactly the way you have mocked it up.
What is the process to render and customize Tudor? Do we coordinate with our AD? We have been wanting to do one for work. Ive seen luminox and other brands do custom orders for units. Would love to get the ball rolling with a Tudor.
If you and UHS make this a available, I’m buying. Thanks for the videos Bruce!
Cannot wait to get it!
I have this watch and love it. I've tried on a Batman, which is just awesome on the wrist, but with the price gulf between both I have no issue at all with the Pro's shortcomings.
I like it. When the time comes to add a GMT complication, this one will surely be in the running.
I totally disagree with you on the straps, the Hybridstrap does ‚hide‘ the thickness of that watch much better then then the stainless strap and does make the watch look much better to IMHO. However I habe a 19 cm wrist size so the thickness is no issue for me. This for me is one of the best watches TDR released in the past years. I agree the clasp on the steel band is good. However for me the hybrid strap is much nicer
I love the BB Pro. When it was released I dismissed it given the dimensions but after getting the call from the AD to have a look it was a non issue for me. The crown is bigger and has different knurling so from the crown side view it looks totally fine. From the non crown side it does look a little thicker with the standard BB slab case sides. I find it wears great and that T-Fit clasp is genius. I have no issues with the faux rivets either, on the wrist I really do not notice then but I can appreciate some may not like them, we are all different. I like the proposal for the bee hive idea for Utah, would it not be cool if that symbol could be used on the crown sign as well? Have a great day Bruce and thanks for your thoughts.
It would be super cool, but not an option from Tudor. We can only place a logo on the dial and caseback unfortunately
Fingers crossed for a white dial BBPRO coming soon! As an HSU member, the thought of owning a BBPRO "polar" AND the HSU edition for the same price as ONE 226570 is making me giggle! Obviously the 226570 is spectacular, but it's a little big anyway at 42mm, especially with the 22mm lug to lug.
BB Pro looks damn good.. it really has the vintage Explorer vibe..
Fell in love with this watch when I saw the first pictures and knew I had to own it. Picked one up last fall and it’s my favorite watch in my stable. Of course the 1655 is the grail I’ll never own in my life (my wife would divorce me if I purchased a 30k+ watch), so this Tudor scratches that itch nicely. Perfect combo of sporty and dress for my lifestyle. +1 sec a day out of the box, love everything about it. Too thick you say? Not for me, my primary diver is a Seiko LX, try getting that under your shirt cuff 😂
Is it just me or does the paint on the hands look pretty rough? I'm talking about specifically where the light colour meets the dark colour. The edges seem quite jagged. Pretty sure I've seen similar on Sinn watches. Not sure if that's just particularly difficult to do due to the rough texture?
I own the GMT Diet Pepsi, and Reverse Panda Chrono, both on bracelet, and I agree that the clasp is top notch, and every bit as good as any Rolex clasp - very clean design. Well done review here Bruce.
DIET Pepsi Scott? You misstyped there: what you MEANT to write was Pepsi Max... the Pro and your GMT are both excellent watches though. 😉👍
That beehive looks killer
I like Tudor a lot. Their designs, quality, and price segment for a lot of their pieces……on this one though, I’m gonna have to go with the big brother, white dial explorer II
If my gf didn't like my Ranger so much, I'd sell and buy one of these. I can forgive the thickness (I'm wearing a fat Peli!) on this GMT when on bracelet. Perfect travel watch. Beehive is such a good idea. Utah's diversity of wild landscapes is glorious. I look forward to going back.
Really like the look of this watch but I think I am going to eventually go with the Pepsi. The 39mm is just too small on my wrists.
I'd be interested to hear more on the GS comparison; what about the Tudor makes it superior to their GMTs?
There is a homage with a polar dial a San Martin. It’s very available for 200$
Im a Huge advocate of Tudor , however the bracelet rivet and thickness , the FXD personally is the pick of the current catalogue personally
The BB Pro and Blue BB58 are my two favorite watches. I have a 6 3/4 inch wrist and the T Fit bracelet is outstanding. My girlfriend has a BB32 in blue and it's essentially the same case and bracelet as my 58, but smaller. The big difference is it does not have the rivets. It's a beautiful watch but looks too much like a ladies Rolex OP. I love the rivets as the BB range keeps its own design language. In future they will be collectable as unfortunately Tudor will probably listen to the media and ditch the rivets.
I love that BB Pro. I currently have a BB 58 blue; and I wished it had the T-FIT clasp like the Pro. It may not be Rolex, but the BB Pro is WAY more affordable and shares similar design characteristics of the Explorer II. Not only that, as awesome as Rolex is (as a physical watch product), it has lots of baggage with it now days. And in that sense, Tudor is superior to Rolex, in my opinion. Great video Bruce and keep them coming!
My bbpro datewheel broke after 6 months of ownership. Sold it and never look back. Imho, time only complication is the only Tudor u can buy, the rest broke down too easily. Used to own a bbpro, bb36, bb panda chrono, ranger 39mm. Now left bb58
Needs to be 41mm. If we are going big let’s go BIG.
I got the pro back in September and absolutely love it! My grail used to be the polar explorer 2 but it's outta my price range and became too hype. The pro is a no-nonsense tool watch for exploration. I don't need white gold on my hands and indices to go explore. Insane value for money and love the 39mm case size more than the 42mm, which I already have with my omega SMP 300M. The bracelet and T-fit clasp is awesome and I don't mind the rivets, it's the black bay style and I barely notice it. Bringing tool watch back to the basics and love it!
Looks lovely, but on the bracelet the watch was unbalanced and painful to wear after a couple of days, resulting in me selling it.
I wanted the explorer ii, the Tudor took my eye and I had to have it. It is overall just a classic and timeless look. The 42mm explorer ii was way too big for a “tool” watch.
Great video! I think you make an excellent point in that Tudor is starting to encroach almost too much on Rolex design, so they almost have to withhold some design elements (like thinning out this movement). I love the design of this watch and I’ve owned it since April ‘22… the thickness does bother me some days, no question. Even 1mm thinner, or a less slab sided case, would help a ton.
There a few rumours going around that there may be a polar dial of this in the very near future. Problem is you won’t be able to get this either without the usual long wait. For those that like there true GMT’s it’s going to be interesting to see what the new Miyota 9075 movement brings to the affordability side of the equation.
A Polar dial would be amazing. I find the Rolex Explorer II too broad with the 50mm lug to lug and I like the proportions of the Pro much better. Pro is thick, but the 39mm and 47 lug to lug is really good. For my wrist that is.
I'd love to see the polar. Though I don't think luxury brands will be phased with Miyotas release. I could see that affecting affordable and microbrand dual time releases though
The Miyota 9075 is definitely a great step for microbrands, but its accuracy spec (-10/+30) is too wide for it to compete with luxury brands.
Yes, they can do better than the big sister.
I love my Pro over everything because everything is just right, even the rivet band.
Tudor made the areonaut gmt. Its only 10.5mm thick and is gorgeous. They stopped making this model in 2011. I just bought one and its better than the new ones . Just oozes class.
I love the Tudor watches, because their style, solidity and quality. But they do not offer anything I look for. Tudor does not want people like me as customer:
- Black bay diver and Pelagos at 39mm: Gret move, I almost got happy, but not date. Perhaps, almost everyone hates dates in watches, but for me it is important. Even if I have a computer or my smartphone with me, my go to movement to look for the hour and date, is my wrist. Yes, I always forget the date of the day. What I can do. The pelagos has a version with date, why not the 39mm.
- The Black Bay GMT: Of course, 41mm. I am 5.57 feet and a tiny wrist. 39mm is perfect for me and 40 is the maximum. Why cannot they offer two sizes. With the thickness and size, the watch looks ridiculous on my wrist. 40mm looks good on practically every wrist.
- The only one that I could buy: the North flag. Tragically underrated but I really enjoy wearing it. 40mm, date, and great design and even a power reserve complication.
Sorry for the rant, but I love what Tudor make but there is always something missing.
"ceramic blended with lume"?? Ohhk
I say this every time but give us a white dial GMT, Tudor! I want my budget Explorer II Polar dial dammit!
I own it. Its better than a vintage Rolex 16570. works -1.2 seconds a Day. Better than my 3235 Rolex
This Tudor doesn‘t beat the Rolex Explorer 2 at all…
Tudor knocked it out of the park with this one. It is a great watch.
Better then the GMT Master II? I don’t feel that way.
The Rolex GMT Master II’s are the yard stick.
I like the yellow GMT hand but A LOT of people flip their tudor BB because of the thickness. At first, you try to convince yourself that it's fine and not an issue, but over time you're gonna come to this conclusion. We've seen a few watch youtubers list it as a reason for selling it on after.
People like to hate on Tudor but I just don’t understand. I’m gonna assume it’s the attachment to Rolex. If they were their own independent brand people would be raving about what they have been putting out. 🤷🏻♂️
Yes, Tudor did make a better GMT and easier to use, the aeronaut!!!!! I own both the Rolex and the aeronaut. There's no comparison
One thing i disagree with saying that this is better than grand seiko gmt which in my opinion not true as grand seiko beats rolex in finish and way above tudor which are thick and have huge wrist presence
He was comparing the GMT movements only
T-fit better than glidelock? What is he smoking?
I own both and yes the T Fit is better, firstly because you can choose any position as you slide it unlike the 2mm increments of the glide lock. Secondly you don’t have that really long rigid clasp, it’s much shorter on the Tudor so the underside of the bracelet sits snugger and more comfortably on the wrist.
From a distance it looks like the Taco Bell logo
Exactly - they couldn't make it check all the boxes, otherwise people would question why the Rolex Explorer II/GMT is priced so high i.e. it would cannibalize sales. Mido can make a true GMT movement 1.8mm thinner and sell the watch for ~1/3 the price of this Tudor, so what's going on at Tudor
They have factor in Gaga's cost into the budget.
@@AcmeRocket true, as well as David Beckham
Sometimes Rolex falls asleep at the wheel then Tudor releases a watch that’s better than it’s Rolex counterpart. The Ranger comes to mind…
In my humble opinion, my Black Bay Pro and my .925 are a much better purchase than the single submariner. Quality workmanship is on par for the price. I am a new Tudor fan. Rolex lost me due to the way I was treated by an employee at an AD. Typical story it seems like these days
It’s not even close Bruce Rolex Gmt are made to much higher standard. Aesthetically they look better and ergonomically Rolex fits like a glove . I own both the current Pepsi and batman and they are my go too pieces . I purchased the Tudor pro and wore it for Two
Months then sold it . The black bay pro is a great functional and practical watch but it’s no match for the GMT master 2
too thick...
Your batman is 5 times the price
Way too thick unfortunately 🥴
Geez but that finishing on the dial and hands is sub par. Seen better on 100 USD watches Im sorry to say
Did Tudor make a better GMT than Rolex? The short answer is no.
The GMT function is the most overrated function. Simple math will tell you what time it is in another time zone.
I couldn't disagree with you more haha
@@BruceWilliams well you can’t always be right when it comes to watches Bruce. 🤷♂️
It's the most useful function imho. I set my GMT to my parents hometown which 10hrs time diff from where I live. It is so handy to tell the time there
@@MPerry-ox9qb true, I'll forgive you this time 😆
@@maximl8820 I would trade a time zone hour over a quickest date 10 out of 10 times
mediocre and lazy release imo.
Lol
The Black Bay pro is a terrible watch. It’s much too thick and the the side profile is awful. Since the massive price increases Tudor is too expensive for the lack of refinement and quality issues they have. Date wheels problems are still a problem with this model and the Pelagos 39 has many problems including the bezels failing off.
This watch is ugly.
On a strap this watch looks like CRAP! ... Pure unadulterated CRAP!
My Batman is nicer and wears much better.
You seem so successful ! Good for you!! People must be jealous
Everybody needed to know this
@@Gartenriese87 He ask if Tudor is a better GMT,and i did answer that.
@@jonaskalen1759 hey I get it. It's just easy to read it out of context. I am a Pepsi owner but Tudor is tough to beat at their price point and I believe few folks would be cross-shopping a bb pro and a Rolex GMT
Is it a spring drive Seiko Batman GMT? That's an amazing watch.
This watch is ugly to wear. Sold it after a week. Tudor has no balance in their watch design. Either the watches are two small like BB58 or clumys like the BB 41 models. If you want a balanced watch buy a Rolex Submariner 41. Better to spend one time a big amount instead of wasting serveral smaller amounts.
What if you already own several Rolex’s like me and want an under the radar GMT watch to wear to places it’s not advisable to wear a Rolex? Or for beating around in and hiking on the weekends when an expensive Rolex is unnecessary? That’s why I bought a BB Pro it’s a fabulous watch and the thickness thing is silly it’s not that bad at all, it’s chunky but looks great and is highly wearable. My Rolex’s are not getting a look-in atm!
@@Anonymouslyme1 All right, it's good if you feel well with your BB Pro. I own several Rolex and had owned several Tudor and for me life is too short to wear a watch which doesn't feel well. Tudor could do a lot o more, especially the bracelets and straps are everything but comfortable to wear. Why not creating a real alternative for the Sub? The BB 41 is clumsy and the BB58 and BB54 is too tiny for most man. THere is nothing between.
@@DoncommanderS83 they already produce two tremendous alternatives to the sub, the Pelagos 39 and the new 41mm Black bay heritage with METAS movement, that is a Tudor Submariner in all but name.
