Got bored of all the obsessing and excuse finding that we all have. I need a diver, a beater diver, a slightly smarter diver to wear to work, a diver I actually intend to dive with (that I never will dive with) or and a GMT diver for when I go on holiday once per year and can’t subtract or add a few hours to local time and on and on. We’ve all been there. Finding reasons to have multiple watches per genre.
I got rid of everything and kept my Speedy 3861. Now I have that and a couple of Gshocks and cheap digital Casios. If I fancy something new I just buy a £50 Casio and you get a very similar honeymoon period as you do with a £5k watch. In the last 2 years I think I’ve bought a single Gshock and 2 Casios total about £250 and I’m as happy as I was when buying several multi thousand pound watches per year.
On point 👍
as much as a hobby watches are, it's still consumerism. burnout is more related to consumerism not really being a source of joy, there has to be more to the hobby than just the idea of purchase. maybe building and modding or servicing. whatever it is, it has to go beyond the materialistic perspective. Also, as with other hobbies, cycling or taking breaks is healthy
Agree. I burned out from buying watches. Now I'm just into learning the mechanics of watches. Just like fragrances; I'm into learning about all the different perfumers. I think my journey takes me in a different direction that's not consumerism.
the ring is so cool especially when I see the dial from the back
Your discussion really made me smile. I hadn't even thought of the term "watch burnout" myself, but it's so true. I've actually been working with watches since 1983, and I've always had a healthy amount of time for watches. I've always said that watches are the best side job, nothing more, nothing less. But since Corona, it's somehow got me, too, and I have to give myself a break every now and then. Otherwise, I'll really go crazy.
Speaking of promotional items or trading in other items, I'd be sad if watch companies started doing something like that. However, if it were watch accessories, I don't think it's a bad idea. Rolex could, for example, offer rubber straps for the Sub as an alternative.
This was fun to watch! You have a good rapport with Rob too
I am a big-time watch enthusiast and a big-time fragrance enthusiast. Burnout just means a need a break and return and get inspired. Great discussion.
Thank you for this video. We'll done! I like this format.
In your discussion about bracelets. I think that Omega has (for 20mm) a lot of choices, particularly with Speedmaster. There are at least three different stainless bracelet types that fit the 42mm variants. I could appreciate having branded bracelets with Rolex because they don't offer options like that as far as I know
Watch burnout can happen to anyone but if you realize you dont need to own to appreciate...your collection stays refined and focused on things you would really want to own indefinitely instead of feeling like you need the trend of the moment.
I have the same problem with micor brands. I wear the watch for about a month, and it's time for a new one.
I think many people collect specific watches thinking a complete strangers will think: "Hey the guy has a great taste."
I love this format, you are both great!
Appreciate that!
Definitely need a break. Too much same stuff, minor variations. Another GMT - yawn. Really tired of brands short cutting to exclusivity by jacking up prices.
Hi guys, thank you for the next super video 👍 my personal opinion that rolex “jewelery” if rolex come would be a trash… because outside of “our watch buble” nobody care if its bezel of the daydate or ring in design of daytona screws… I personaly never wear a cap, t-shirt or something similar with the watch brand on the chest/head 😄
I really enjoyed this. You should both do this more often
We have two more vids filmed, and plan on doing this in perpetuity
Another great talk! Thank you!! You guys are awesome 🤌🤌
Total agree with watch burnout. Going through that now. Would you be able to recommend a good place / website site to sell luxury watches to? Whether a direct selling site? Or, maybe a 3rd party dealer? So many out there I am not sure where to even being. Any opinion would be appreciated.
For selling yourself I've found watchuseek to be the best platform. For good pricing on trade ins DavidSW has always quoted higher than others
@@BruceWilliams thank you Bruce, much appreciated
Not burned out on watches as much as I am with the repetitive discourse around watches. The same old brands (insert ubiquitous black dial diver company here) over and over is tiresome, when there are so many others worthy of mention every now and then.
Good point, I don't regularly view other watch content, but I imagine it can get repetitive
Love the video! Sick Sprite Robert!
A true gentleman helped me source it. All is right in the world when I wear it
This video was a good reminder that I’m not the only insane watch nerd. Which makes me feel less insane, so thanks
lol just buying watches and searching for the next thing to fill your void. It's an addiction and you are never going to be fullfilled, you guys make it sound so pleasant.
You really only need 8-12 Swiss automatic watches to make a well rounded collection.
You really only need two - a dress watch and a beater. Something like a nice automatic for the office and events, and a quartz diver (battery or solar) for everything else.
It never ends!
Think this is a normal part of collecting anything. I collect antiques but suffer burn out from time to time. At least watches are more liquid.
The Part about Watch burnout does not at all feel Like burnout but like two addicts Talking about the next shot :D
So, wait, did Rob already sell that Halios or just know that he will soon?
I haven't sold it but foresee that it will move in the near future. It's a truly great watch
Really enjoying these videos with rob. Bruce, any thoughts on uploading these sort of conversational episodes as a podcast?
Thought about it, and it may be a possibility. But we think the audience is already here on YT. We would have to start from scratch otherwise
@@BruceWilliams for sure, something to consider but perhaps down the road. Regardless, these episodes (particularly the one about photos vs real life) have been a nice breath of fresh air!
Time to hit the gym bro
Just get new straps
You guys need other hobbies 😂
Lol I have too many
