Easy Stovetop Lasagna

- Easy stovetop lasagna does not get much better. I love lasagna, but I dislike having to make it up, placing it in the oven, and waiting. I came up with the idea of making my lasagna on the stovetop. I checked other recipes only to find out I was not alone with this idea. But I was alone in adding Dave's Cook n' Share personal touch to the dish. In light of this I went ahead and made it and the outcome was incredible.
There are a few tips to making this easy stovetop lasagna, however. First off, use oven ready noodles. They are much easier. You can give them a bit of a presoak in hot water first if you wish. I use cottage cheese as appose to ricotta simply because it has a bit more of a bite.
Every stove is different so keep an eye on the lasagna so it doesn't get too dry or overly soupy. The trick is, if it gets too dry, leave the top on a bit longer or put it back on. On the other hand, if it gets too soupy, take the top off and turn the heat up a bit. You shouldn't have a problem, however.

Ingredients:
1 pound or 1/2 kilo of lean ground beef
3 cloves of chopped garlic
1 can or 28 oz 800 ml of diced tomatoes
580 ml of spaghetti sauce
1 tbsp of Italian seasoning
500 grams of 2 percent cottage cheese
1 egg
1/4 cup of Parmesan
Method:
Add the ground beef to a pan over medium high heat and fry until browned. About half way through you might want to drain about 70 percent of the fat off.
Add in the garlic and saute for a minute or two until fragrant.
Add in half the diced tomatoes, drained followed by the spaghetti sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Mix until well combined, place a top on, and allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes or so.
Set the sauce aside.
Add the cottage cheese to a bowl followed by the egg and Parmesan. Mix until well combined.
Add some of the tomato sauce to a separate pan and spread abound until it covers the bottom of the pan.
Break the lasagna noodles so they fit nicely in the pan and place them over the sauce.
Add another layer of sauce over the noodles.
S[read a layer of the cheese sauce over the lasagna followed by a layer of mozzarella.
Next, add another layer of noodles followed by more sauce, cheese sauce, and a final layer of mozzarella. Sprinkle some basil over the top.
Place a lid on the pan and bring it to a boil over medium high heat.
After a boil, remove the lid, reduce the heat, and allow it to simmer for about 20 to 25 minutes.
Let it cool a bit to set, serve, and enjoy your stovetop lasagna. - Навчання та стиль

I like the cottage cheese too Dave. What a great idea, less work with just as mush flavor.
Hi Dave! I've been making mine in the slow cooker, for years. The noodles cook in the slow cooker and everything comes out great. Never thought of stovetop. This looks great and another way to make it..Yum!
Hey Michelle. Yeah, a slow cooker does make a lot of sense. It just takes a little bit longer. But that's fine. Hope you get this want to try and enjoy it. As always, stay well and safe Michelle. Have a super weekend. 👍😎
A very smart idea,thanks.

Hey Lynne! Thanks so much. It's so much easier on the stove top. Although, sometimes I do like it in the oven. Give it a try and let us know what you think. As well as, have a great weekend and stay safe, Lynne.
That's some impressive lasagna, Dave. Careful, Garfield might get his paws on it. 😂😂😂

If you want to brown the cheese top, just use your mini torch!
This is perfect for the summer, when it's too hot to turn on the oven!
Thanks Dave!
Hi. Yes, I've done that trick before. It works really well. It was really good. Hope you are well and safe. Have a great weekend.
Great idea was planning on making lasagna today too!

@@TheCooknShare Hi Dave. Thanks for asking. My end is quiet tough. Working on my family farm during weekends. Farm boy for life lol. Yes, I will try cooking this today on a butane stove. Take care my friend.
Mouth watering💕
What's wrong?
Wow yummy
That looks really good and easy. I like cottage cheese better also, plus it's less expensive here.
Fav food
Wao yummy
Nice cooking
I'll make this. My mom used cottage cheese too. Haven't had it that way in forty years. Nice memory, Dave.
Hey Scott. Wow 40 years. That's a long time. Perhaps you should give it a try again and make up for those memories stay well and safe, Scott. Take care.😎
Yummy delicious I will look & see if I can find the pasta. Thank you for sharing Dave. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Hey Wendy! How are things going there in South Africa. It must be getting hot this time of year. If you can't buy the oven noodles, you can always use the regular noodles and just give them a bit of a Pre-boil. Hope you give it a try and enjoy stay well and safe, Wendy.👍😃
U can cook pasta couple minutes in boiled water, then proceed with Dave's recipe😊
Woww man you are saviour ❤️
Hey there! Well, thanks so much. Hope you give it a try. As always stay safe and have a super weekend.🐥😎
Love it 😘yum wow ♥️
Hi there. Thanks so much. Hope all is well and you give this a try. As always stay well and safe. And have a great weekend! 😎👍
Looks so good. Pamela in Detroit
Hi Pamela. Hope you try it and enjoy. Stay safe and well.
Yum!!
Oh my goodness Dave , I am going to buy the ingredients right now that I need to make this , this looks absolutely amazing,
Hi Dimtrios. Great. Let us know how you like it. Stay safe and well. 👍😷
@@TheCooknShare Hey Dave , I actually did and we just had lunch, the only difference I shredded a bunch of ripe tomatoes and added a tablespoon of (Krinos)tomato paste and Greek oregano and it was fantastic, of course I did the exact same cheese as you did and you it right the cottage cheese is amazing , THUMBS UP FOR DAVID EVERYONE
Hey Dimtrios. Fantastic!!!!! 😀 So glad you enjoyed it. Love the idea of the ripe tomatoes and paste. Yum, l Greek oregano. Nice touches. Thanks so much and stay safe. 😎😀
@@TheCooknShare thank you Dave , I have a great idea for your next video , how about a Greek style pizza , and the pizza sauce very simple , ripe tomatoes shredded with a tablespoon of tomato paste and a tablespoon of olive oil, and add some Greek sausages and the a mixture mozzarella cheese and feta ,and oregano on top before baking, Dave I’m telling you that it will be a pizza you’ll never forget, stay safe Dave
Hey There. That sounds like a fantastic idea. Yum. Will put that on the list for sure. Thanks my friend. 👌🏻😀😊
I’m Italian and I won’t kill you but lasagna without ricotta 😫 !! I will try the method for my son who doesn’t have an oven
Looks really good. When I make it I get the regular noodles but don't boil them. With the sauce and cheese its saucy enough that it cooks the noodles. That's one step I don't have to do. My sister told me that is what she did. Have a good weekend. ❤
Hey Becky. That's a really good point. Yes, the sauce and the heat would certainly Cook the Noodles. Anyway, stay safe and have a great weekend, Becky. 😃👍
That looks amazing. Thanks for this video. I was googling if I can make lasagna on stovetop because I forgot to buy pan at supermarket. I'm doing this today with ziti though. 😊👍
Hi. Thanks so much. You are so welcome. It was a really nice dish. Hope it turns out well for you and have a super weekend. 😁😆

Oh god that looks tasty
Hey Sean. Thanks so much. Hey, no music while you are cooking it. 😂 Take care Sean.
A coors light👍
You guy you got it Sean. No more than 6 though. 🤣😂🍻
Yeah, that dog will hunt! Many thanks, Dave! 👍😁
Hey there. Well, I guess that's a good thing. LOL. Hope you give it a try. As always, stay safe and have a great weekend.🤓👍
@@TheCooknShare that's an old Yankee expression, and yes it's a good thing! 😅
@@TheCooknShare update: I made this with mild Italian sausage instead of ground beef, & it's fantastic! Thanks again, Dave.
awesome version of stove top lasagna, I'd just add that it would be recomended to cool down a bit before serving, if you serve it a bit cooler it will hold its form thanks to the cheese being a bit colder.
Hi. Thanks so much, Eric. Hope you give it a try. Yes, if you let is cool, it maintains its shape. The joys of filming. Hope you try it and enjoy. Let us know.
Yes the baking part alway prevented me from making it, but I love the stuff, will try for sure.
Hi there. Yes, I know it can be a long process. Perhaps this will help a little and you can try lasagna again. Yay! Anyway, if you do try it let us know. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. As always, stay well and safe. 🤓🧑🏼🍳
@@TheCooknShare I just made it! It was delicious, thank you!
Looks good. Looks like oven lasagna. I saw a video for Crock-Pot lasagna too.
Hi Delia. Yes the crock pot would be good too. It would just take a bit longer. Hope you had a great weekend and stay safe.
@@TheCooknShare thank you very much. You be safe too.
Thanks. 👌🏻🤗😁😎
When my mother made lasagne it took hours. The sauce alone took around 5 hours. Looks pretty doggone good, I just love pasta. As my little sister used to say”basagna”.
Hi Cynthia. Yeah it was the same with my mother too. It seem to take her forever to make it. As I can remember, the first time I made it, it took me an awful long time. But this way is a little bit quicker. Hope you try it. Stay well and safe.🤓🧑🏼🍳
@@TheCooknShare I make the real stuff when I have guests, but I can taste it right now. It has that odd spice that my sister calls little sticks which I think is rosemary. I have to figure it out before I make it again. It’s what sets lasagne apart from other pastas. My recipe has ground beef and pork sausage in it. I don’t change a thing.
Hey Dave!
- I like cottage cheese better also.
- Looks pretty tasty. I would probably go with at least 1 more layer of pasta. ( personal choice of course )
- There is still something about making them the conventional way though. Building them is part of the fun imo.
Thanks & hope you have a nice weekend! 😎🌞
Hey serge. Yeah, you're right, there's just something about the old fashion way. I guess in this day and age though people are looking to cut time. This is kind of a good way to do it. I like building them to, however. Do you have a great weekend to serge and stay safe.
@@TheCooknShare tyvm!
Hey Dave, How goes it?, I will definitely make this, you touched on 2 things that I can relate to. One, I Love Lasagna too, but it's prep can be a Bear if you don't really have the time and Two, I eat large curd cottage cheese be all the time, I love it so much and I will try this no bake, cottage cheese Dave's Lasagna, I will let you know how good it was!!
Hey William. I love the name "Dave's Lasagna!" 😅 I'm sure you will enjoy this. Yes, by all means let me know. Stay safe and well, William.
You can come over to Puerto Rico and make one for me
Heading over there. LOL.
I’m not sure I see the difference. Maybe 30 minutes cooking time? But the process was the same as if you layered it in a baking pan and put it in the oven. I’m not knocking it...It looks great! And I will try it to see if there is any other difference. Good video!
Hey Frank. No, I know you are not knocking it and I agree. It's just the fact it's made in one pan , well kind of, and on the stovetop. Stay well and safe, Frank.
Great recipe Dave but what's up with the metric measurements is this something that you'll be using now?
I think he's Canadian
@@bonniebrown1305 yes he is usally he uses both forms of measurement in his recipes
Yes, I try and use both the European side wants metric and the American side want imperial I sometimes get confused and tell people to use 200 kilograms of beef in their recipe. That’s about 400 pounds. 😂🤣🤣 Now that’s a lot of beef. 😱😖🤭
Dave my friend, very nice recipe, never seen that before, looks delicious & yes the grand daughters will eat it., lol, about like anything else, lol. Are those pasta sheets the ones that say " no bake"?, cause they have those here. btw, we talked about the meat recently in regards to fat to meat percentage. Try this, go by name, disregard lean, ground beef has the most fat( 25-27%fat) , ground chuck in the middle(20% fat) ground round or sirloin(10%fat), try that at the grocer, hope that helps, btw, I use whole fat cottage cheese in my lasagna in place of ricotta
Hey Steve. Yes, I'm sure the grandkids will love them as always. They are pretty healthy eaters. Yes, they are the new big ones. They are not too bad. I sometimes get the regular ones and pre-boil them. Yes, as a matter of fact, I did mention your comment in the video about some companies having the fat content on the package. That's really hard to get here for some reason. I don't know why. I guess I should start buying at the butcher shop rather than Walmart. LOL. Yes, I sometimes use low-fat cottage cheese or sometimes 2%. For some reason I just don't like Ricota. As I said in the video the Italians would kill me. LOL. Anyway, Stay well and safe my friend.
@@TheCooknShare I always say, you bought it with your money, eat it how you like it. We don't need the food nazi's telling us how we have to eat our food. ie: I don't like ketchup on a hot dog, if someone does, eat it how you like it.
@@TheCooknShare btw, I did see that you mentioned my comment in regards to fat % ratio , try by name in that post I sent, otherwise I would go to a butcher shop. Just for easy math, if you bought 75-25 % meat to fat, & kept 3-5% of the fat for any recipe dish, you basically got rid of 20% of the per pound money spent, if $ 2.00 lb. U.S., you actually paid $ 2.40 lb., that's how I figure it, plus the mess of disposing of the excess fat, btw, never pour it in the sink drain as will eventually clog, & never in the commode which I have seen/heard of folks doing, seriously
Great idea Steve! I actually thought of doing my own. It might be fun. Do you think it would make a good video? 🧐🤔
@@TheCooknShare Dave my good friend, I absolutely think it would be a good video, there are many folks out there, young & old that are learning to cook, so I think it would be very helpful, I'm 58 yr old Irishman & still learning to cook new recipes, some are yours among others, I still love learning, 1 of my fave, recipes of yours posted not to long ago is that whole pineapple with all those ingredients inside with chix, was awesome. You know my 2 grand daughters fave veggie is broccoli, but their fave fruit is pineapple as my wife , it's a winner for everybody when they stay with us for a weekend, ty pal
On the "lean ground meat": most of that fluid you see is water. The problem isn't so much that they add some fat (which you can adjust for by using less or no olive oil) but that they put a lot of water in there. Unlike the fat, the water doesn't actually naturally occur in ground meat ...
Hi. Yes, I agree. There is a fair amount of fate too. Between the two of them it never fries properly. At least what I want for my recipes.
@@TheCooknShare It's the biggest pain when dealing with ground meat for me. Short of buying expensive ground steak (or grinding your own), I assume there's nothing other than just pouring out the excess fluid?
Thanks for the video btw, I also think lasagna is great but too much work, so I'm definitely going to try this.
Hey Dirk. I hear you. I'm going to try grinding my own actually. It might be fun and different. You are so welcome. If you try it, let us know how it come out. Stay safe and well, Dirk. 😀👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😍😍
Hey there. I guess you're from Korea. I miss it there as I was there for five years teaching English. Hope you try the dish. Stay well and safe.🧑🏼🍳😎
It's not fat it's tallow and quite useful.
I guess you could make bird food or fry with it if you let us solidify. You are right, it is tallow. I would want to know if it's organic, etc. before consuming it any way. I guess it gets complicated.
what size pan is it? PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP
It’s about a 9 inch. Hope this helps.
"Can get Italian seasoning at any grocery store."
Not in the Philippines. Ha When I occasionally do see it, I buy plenty. 😏
Hi John. Yeah, that would be a good idea when you see some to buy a whole bunch. I think you can get it easily in Makati city. I think that’s where I found it when I lived there. Hope things are well in the sunny Philippines. Plan to come back and visit someday.
Wow!...but noodles...its pasta!
Wow. I'll have to be more careful with that one.
