An arranged olichottam tells the story of Athira, a prospective bride, who elopes with the groom's friend under mysterious circumstances. olichottam is a malayalam web series with a social conscience, aiming to combat the prevalent practice of dowry in Kerala, where it is exchanged in various forms across most communities. Many families view dowry as a means to secure their daughter's happiness in her marriage and her acceptance in the in-laws household.
However, the pursuit of marriage for financial gain often leads to tragic outcomes for the girls involved. Tragedies akin to those of Uttara, Vismaya, Archana, and countless others continue to occur. dowry persists as an unspoken agreement, effectively becoming a form of ransom to ensure the safety of the bride-to-be. This social malpractice of dowry still lingers in many places, resulting in the unfortunate suffering of our girls, ranging from burns, strangulation, poisoning, and even snake bites, rendering them helpless in their matrimonial homes.
