Step 1: Be a high strength tank build. Step 2: DON'T be a magic build. Step 3: If you're still having trouble, well you should've been a high strength tank build. What were you thinking?
Okay looks fairly standard … strafe left, back up for 5-hit combo then heal, pendant for magic …. I'm all set.... ….. Smashed controller, smashed tv, punch-holes in wall and eyes redder than Manus'.
Very useful guide. Especially the point about the shield, Manus roaring, and circling left instead of right. The only useful addition I would see is that, if you're circling left, you can often dodge roll out of the way of his forward projectile attack
As a new player this is easily the hardest fight in the game, the range of his melee attacks no matter how far to the left i am to him/behind him it doesn't matter his hits cover such a far range its ridiculous. I hear him roar and i run away and he still fucking gets me no matter the distance
You only need to turtle like this if you're using a weapon that barely does 70 damage a hit btw. I beat him with no shield using a +15 Greatsword, I was hitting him for 480-510. It does make it harder to land attacks as the windows are smaller with a slow weapon, but you know what they say, offense is the best defense, the boss can't hurt you if he's dead.
Please note that his shield is working because it has high stability. Mostly Great Shield just like that. So don't use small shield. And his endurance is 40.... That makes him able to hold the shield. For those who below 30, try fight naked or over encumbered
I didn't know about the pendant and assumed the shield wouldn't work. I like beating the bosses blind and then looking at guides to see what I did wrong. Guess I went hard mode with this boss.
It only took me 2 tries to beat him solo in NG without the pendant. In NG+, I summoned Sif, used the pendant, and still died somewhere between 10-15 times before I finally got him. Manus is brutal in NG+ lol
I deal like 600 plus damage using Chaos Zwiehander +5 2hand and I have 70 strength 40 dex 30 endurance 30 vitality rest are 10(It took me so long to farm the souls I used for the skills. I think it took me about 2 whole days just farming the dudes inside door in darkroot forest
What makes this harder than it needs to be is that combo that he spams plus the fact that it takes centuries to get up when he knocks you down and you can't move when you heal.
I have forgotten I ever fought this boss as I cheesed him with arrows before the white fog. I went back to my videos and realized, oh yes... of course I "beat" him
The game’s for fun, it’s not a job. If you cheesed him, you cheesed him, nothing to be ashamed of. If the game lets you do, then it’s OK to do it. No point in throwing yourself at the wall if it’s going to ruin your sanity. Maybe one day you’ll be him ‘properly’ but don’t let people gatekeep game strategies. Are you having fun? Nothing else matters.
This guy took me a good 20 tries with the help of sif and a fully upgraded black knight sword and this guy does it by himself and uses a sword that does a millimeter of damage per swing and makes manus look easy.
If the movements in this game were improved this boss fight would've actually been fun, as is the rest of the other boss fights. The only time I feel like these movements are adequate enough is when fighting against slow enemies such as Taurus Demon, Asylum Demon, Iron Golem, etc.
For any of you struggling with this fight, stay on his ass. He will do less of those magical attacks, without his magic attacks, he isnt nearly as bad. Whenever he does that giant ass swipe, that move has enough end lag for you to heal there as well.
My first playthrough was as magic which cheesed most bosses (4 shot Gwyn) but this boss? With his fast Elden-Ring speed of attacks, high magic resist, and how slow spells are to cast? It was hard as fuck. My cheese build became my worst enemy. First and only boss I really had to sweat for. Now I've played melee and fought the bosses properly so I have perspective. Is magic cheese? Yeah. It is. Most DS1 bosses aren't designed to have ranged attacks, so magic defeats the majority of the mechanics. HOWEVER, magic does not come CLOSE to the cheese factor of tank builds. Tank builds are just borked in DS1.
Honestly the boss I struggled with the most across all the fromsoft bossed. Took me about 20 goes the first time I played the game. One of the most underrated boss designs as well in my opinion, very rarely see it in a top 10 list
Didnt think shield would work, thanks for the heads up...a lot of these large bead bosses create exploding hitboxes behind you as they attack and it hits you regardless of the shield...and I'm just not good enough to dodge reliably, heal and use the pendent to not get oneshot
10th try....killed this guy on the 10th try or so with this strategy. Lost about 20 humanities...but then I farmed humanities from those humanity enemies nearby...so its ok. + Manus gives about 10 humanities after defeat. THANK YOU author.
U might wanna use a harder hitting weapon than this as well, black knight Halberd +5 does pretty crazy damage to him, like 300-400 per one handed attack....
I'm pretty sure he's hitting for less damage on purpose to showcase the fighting strat and Manus' attacks. If he hit harder, these videos wouldn't nearly be as helpful as a guide, since the fights would end too quickly.
For such a hyped up boss manus’s moves are kinda boring Edit: ok his spells and the giant arm are pretty cool but still, father of the abyss is a big name
I found an easier way of killing him. when going down the hill to the fog door on the far right of the edge, if you look down you can see the boss's eyes. just shoot at him from that edge with a really strong bow and arrows like coughs great bow. I shoot him until he is about 5% left of life. then I enter the fog door and with one hit he is dead.
i beat him 3rd try with a fast roll dex built, murakumo +15 not even a shield, he is pretty easy if you just run along the edge of the arena in a circle, i didnt even need the pendant you can just run from the stuff he shoots down from above
Honestly i beat him myself, and i don't know how, but i was without the shield and in heavy armor, dodging to the right. And i got lucky as he didn't use spells even once, and dodging is easy once you get the timing right. For me artorias was harder, as his double strike opens you for another hit, and i have hard time dodging it.
I was saving the dlc for after the main game but didn't realize it automatically puts you into ng+ after beating gwyn. I got roughed up by the double hp bosses but finally made it to this fucker. I'll have to give this strat a go.
Bruh I was playing as a level 99 mage with 44 int, and some of the strongest spells and best gear for a mage and I still had difficulty with this boss. How anyone can fight him like this is beyond me

Hello, i have a question. Are there any weapon buffs (gold,chorcoal...resin) that do more damage or just gives you an advantage? And do you recommend a big bonky weapon or a fast weapon? Love the content, im boosting the discord server. Thanks!
That fast dark projectile attack is the only attack I struggle against. I cant yet tell the difference of its visible ques from the other two dark spells. Any tips?
@@alexcanton0 Yes, stamina and health have points because any build (bar magic, perhaps) would have put points into them. @@novavortex7763I don’t think there’s anything wrong with looking up guides. A guide can’t press the buttons and time the shots for you. If a guide helps you make the game more fun, then that’s legit.
The clorianthy ring (I probably spelt that wrong) is available as a find in the great hollow tree after you've gone through the first 2 illusory walls and passed the bonfire. This area is found at the bottom of blighttown on the opposite side of the boss fog where you'll encounter a bunch of leeches. There's a few good YT videos that can explain how to drop down to it better than I could.
Why are your builds always so weak. I don't mean to be a dick, but I've watched a few of your videos on Dark Souls bosses, and well, your weapons never do much damage, like at all. Maybe it's just for the video, or a preference thing. But it would annoy me personally to constantly do so little damage.
its a tutorial...what will you learn he uses 40 dmg stat/optimal weapon (or dark bead)/power within/red tearstone ring and kills him in like 3 hits? you might as well watch a speedrun for tutorial then
The entire fight, takes you around ten whole minutes to finish. That is what i call truly bullshit game design! Even if some people manage to take the boss down in 5 minutes. Its still bad.
