I was a boater for 10 years or so and trailered the entire time and am thankful that I never had a serious incident on the ramp. When you go to any ramp for the first time it can be really stressful. They're all a bit different and in New England the tides and currents create very changeable conditions. You launch the boat and come back 4 hours later and the situation can be entirely different. I used to launch on the same tidal river ramp and got really good at it because I learned all the tricks.

When the Boat Shop staffers were still at the store on a Saturday afternoon, (and not already on the water), when we closed the store, and wanted some laughs, we would drive a couple blocks down to the marina launch ramps.... and watch the newbies launch and load their boats. @@jrand6138 Thats why they saved a ton of money on the trailer, it would have cost just as much as the jet ski. At least from their perspective. The only smart loading I have seen into the bed of a truck with a jet ski was once when a dude had an electric winch mounted in the front of the bed, and would undo the cables on the tailgate so it would hang down about 6in below the deck of the bed. It was just enough to back in and pull the jet ski onto a rug he had in back without busting up the truck or ski.

They should make you pass a test before you can even get near a watercraft and many accidents could be avoided. Lol

Two things are needed in order to launch or recover a boat. 1-The proper vehicle for the size and weight of the boat. And 2- Intelligence and knowledge of how to back-up a trailer. If you possess these things, your next trip to a boat ramp will never end up like it did with these idiots.
