    This is really a kick butt video. Kermit is an awesome module. I wish all module review videos were like yours. You are clear and very thorough displaying the mod without a lot of fluff of other modules. Gives me a clear idea of Kermit.

    Mine just came and I have been digging into the module. So crazy what it can do. I love the dirty oscillator mode and using it for various modulations. You can also create and load your own wavetables via SD card to the Kermit. I think that this module has the crown for ultimate modulator in the Eurorack world.

    After having an eye on this module for years now I finally pulled the trigger. Took that long because it was either never in stock or my finances would not allow it. I think the price it pretty steep. And that's kind of the problem for me right now. It sure it a cool module and it does a lot of stuff BUT after playing around with it today for a couple of hours it somehow missed this wow factor that other modules immediately have. First of I was disappointed that for the price of 500 Euros it didn't even come with the microSD included. As far as I can tell the module is pretty much useless without wavetables loaded via SD card beside for maybe the random and code scan functions. Next is the way you interact with the module. Sure there have to be compromises made in 12hp when it comes to button per function but it's not so much the amount of shortcuts but the ergonomics of them, they feel somehow unnatural to me. A major gripe for me is the layout of encoders and buttons. I by no means have sausage fingers but I keep knocking parameters out of place and find myself searching for a way to place my fngers while performing some ninja hotkey combo without destroying the patch I've built for the last 20min. Then there are the bugs... The screen was buggy for me at least three or for times already. On the first day of use that is. When it happens the very right like 5% of the screen is cut off and instead on the left of the screen. Only rebooting helped here. Once followed by the same bug again after only couple of seconds.
    Idk, I really wanna like the module and get happy with it but so far I am very torn.
    Maybe you could share your feelings about that with me? Did the module have to grow on you or did you love it right away? What do you think about the ergonomics and what is your experience with bugs? And lastly which modules could be considered alternatives to Kermit? Is there anything out there with that much functionality?
    Thanks for your videos and looking forward to hearing your input. Buyers remorse is real XD

    You jumped over the VCO section very quickly, which is fine as you probably had too much to explain (on all the stages). Anyhow, just out of interest, I see it's 2 VCOs, that's clear. But can you tell me how C and D work please. Obviously with only one input I'm curious to know what happens and how they work for VCO use.
    I was looking at possibilities for 3 oscillators (in one module) and thought about the Instruo troika, which also looks interesting. However, seeing these Industrial Electronics modules (especially Kermit an PH), I'm wondering whether these might be more flexible - which for me is the most important thing in a rack when thinking about multi uses/space, and money spent.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @QuincasMoreira
      @QuincasMoreira 2 роки тому +1

      Hi! I don't quite remember, have a look in the manual! I think when using C and D for VCO the input can affect one or the other or both VCOs, but you can't CV control their frequencies independently at the same time.

    • @cardboardmusic
      @cardboardmusic 2 роки тому

      @@QuincasMoreira I did, but there's nothing there (not that I saw), which is bit lame of IM not to explain that - somehow.

    • @QuincasMoreira
      @QuincasMoreira 2 роки тому +1

      @@cardboardmusic it does say in the manual how to assign the cv input to pitch! it's just a physical limitation, a single input can't control two VCOs independently. But you can control them both simultaneously, so it's still a 4th VCO, only it's necessarily going to follow the same pitch info as the third one. Cheers!

    So a $400 module, and it looks like it uses cheesy plastic shaft pots? I say that because I can see them flopping around when you turn them. Maybe not all of them? You are a DIY builder, doesn't that bug you? Especially on expensive gear. I love the fact that guys like CalSynth make point to use quality parts even on an affordable module. You notice Befaco uses metal shaft pots.

    • @QuincasMoreira
      @QuincasMoreira 3 роки тому +6

      this debate is not about price of parts really, some people consider shafts with some give to be superior. The Buchla 200e seems to use these kinds of pots as well ;). Also, the four main pots don't wobble, they are metal shafts and panel mounted, only the smaller ones are plastic shafts
