    Wow, that was special. Love this recipe! I will have to modify it a bit with stevia and molasses but I think I can do it. I love baking the rhubarb as it keep it from going mushy. I am going to pick some rhubarb. Thanks Steve. Everyone should try this, they're in for a treat.

    Hi Steve, brings back old memories of a crumble my mum did using Feijoas awesome, I'm doing yours on the weekend ...Cheers

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  10 років тому

      Yarraville ;o) do I know you LOL. now I haven't had Feijoas in ages, what a great choice.. But no, it was not Kiwi by the way, they don't make a nice crumble too soft. It has been guessed by the way, Gooseberry was or is still my favorite, not easy to get hold of but make just the best Crumble or at least have fond memories to me ;o). I hope your crumble comes out well.. let me know.

    Ha ha...happy days! when we were kids (50 odd years ago) we used to raid the neighbours back garden for his rhubarb and our mams' kitchen for the sugar. seen this last year and bought my own rhubarb plant...should have some to make this later. Cheers mate.

    Very nice. I've never used rhubarb. I've never even tasted rhubarb.
    I'll really have to try it sometime. It's a great idea to add some almond meal to the crumble top. I'll definitely be trying that too. The whole thing looks wonderful.

      We just must put that right Anne, you can't pass through this beautiful world without experiencing the tart sweetness of Rhubarb, wish I could bake one for you, Crumbles and pudding where a staple of my childhood, Rhubarb, Sour Cooking Apples and Quinces made such great slow cook dishes they are the slow cook meats of the fruit world, hiding all the flavor. I wish I could bake you an Apple Pie with Bramley Apples too, that's a treat not to be missed but it is so hard to find Bramley now because they can't be eaten Raw, I fear Rhubarb might go the same way ;o(
      Thanks Anne, have a lovely day

    Hi Steve! My favourite crumble is gooseberry, and from your hints, I guess it's yours too? Btw: my Austrian grandma always added strawberries to her rhubarb crumble, they balance out the tartness of the rhubarb nicely.

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  10 років тому

      Hey Sleepsheep, you are spot on ;o). Now strawberries when they are good and in season, like the old fashioned ones had a lot of sugar in them, so that would have been delightful. Great tip and thanks for making the guess, well done.

    Thank you for a straightforward video! My time is valuable also, and I dislike videos that just drag on with alot of chit chat. I'm wondering if regular wheat flour can be used in place of the ground almonds, if we don't have almonds on hand? Thanks

    • @Steve-Owens

      Thanks Sara, A lot of people Bake this with soft fruits, mainly Blackberry in the UK, I don't like it that way, I find the berries overwhelm the Rhubarb an it might as well not be there, so please try it with just Rhubarb one day, Rhubarb is subtle but on its own,,, sooo good. The best as you say :o)
