The thing at the end happens to some places in my zoysia sometimes, I do a preventative fungicide program and pesticide applications to prevent insect problems so I'm at a loss for what the heck it is
i have a granular fertilizer with 16-5-5 and 4% iron that I love and use. We don't have these 40-0-0 fertilizers that you guys in the US have. So I assume 16% N is considered ''low''. Our summer temps are usually 20-25c, so not super hot either. Should I keep using my 16-5-5 during sommer too every 4-6 weeks?
The number on the bag doesn't necessarily mean it's low nitrogen because it depends how many pounds you're putting on the ground of that product. I don't use granular mid summer because I want something I can better control in terms of how quickly it works on the lawn and I can easily apply .1 pounds of N which is very difficult with granular.
Hi Ryan, I'm located on the NC SC border on the coast. My main grass is Burmuda tiffway 419 but have areas in the backyard that have some tree shade. Don't think Burmuda will do good there but was wondering if a bluegrass strain might be ok in the heat of the summer. At present I have centipede but it looks like crap. Was wondering if you might suggest something I can cut fairly short Thanks Kevin Sheehan
Ryan, you're killing me. My yard is looking a little crispy this summer due to the 100 + temps in Texas and I can't help but be jealous. While watching your videos.
month of draught and high temperatures pretty much killed my lawn, guess I will start over again for like the 4th year in a row, which once again means I never get any root structure to actually survive a normal summer let alone a brutal one
I think the only issue with stopping the watering during summer is that if you have a thin lawn, you run the risk of the soil drying out and becoming very compact. After 3 years of working on improving my lawn, I still have some "original areas" of the lawn that have slightly compact soil and shallower roots. Even after years of aeration and liquid aeration, they still need a lot of work.
my blue grass also have the likely died brown and when bird came and pull the dried grass, the soil just show. I spread the bugs and used neem oil, normally finitize every month, not in summer month, we can reach 100 average now. Any idea how i can prevent this happeding?
Thanks for the video, Ryan. Had a quick question about whether or not you've come across irrigation systems with the option of an additional system installed for mosquito treatments. Southern Indiana here so it's a great idea, but I didn't know if you had the same type installed or have come across them, and if so, if they're able to apply fertilizer, etc. as well. Thanks again!
Look up EZ Flow Fertigation system. There are also DIY venturi Injector systems people install on their farms/home irrigation systems that are cheap as well. Lots of videos on UA-cam about either systems
Hey Ryan. I have Jonathan Green Black Beauty Ultra that I overseeded last fall. It is a bit stressed right now because of the heat. But I have a medium sized patch that I seeded when I filled in a large depression in the front. I used Perennial Rye and it looks fabulous in comparison. Wondering if I can aerate and overseed the rest of the yard with the Rye this fall and have any success in converting it to the Rye. If so, do you sell any elite Perennial Rye cultivars that you could recommend? Thank you.
Have the same issue of dying in small circles in my 100% rye grass. Found a few variegated cutworm moths, safe to assume the caterpillars did it. Location SW Ohio just down the road from RD!
I just started spoon feeding this year. I will be getting my grass aerated in September. I live in North Carolina. What month should stop spoon feeding and also what month should I start back up?
Wow i cant believe that is 1 season grass. You have done a nice job with a/b plot comparison's my compliments. Any way to divert that creek for irrigation? Love your Channel you've taught me how to have a better lawn in just 2 years. Thank you!
Everyone always says KBG looks better...but the Tall Fescue always looks better to me. Not to mention it's way more durable and holds up much better in the summer. You can water the KBG but it's going to hit your wallet (or well) much harder. I'd need to live way up north to even consider KBG
@@ryanknorrlawncare I can understand. I'm not going to argue that it has the best appearance, but I don't think the difference is enough to justify how much more it takes to keep it looking good year round. I live in Indy and KBG checks out way early in the season and requires a ton of water in comparison to keep it going. I think really dense Fescue can look better at a taller height, but I get that's not really your thing. I also would go with Perennial Rye though if I was wanting the best look
I live in east Tennessee and am trying to get a palmetto (St. Augustin) lawn growing. I use miracle grow on it and for the deep green look I sprinkle rotor shavings that I get from a dealership when they turn rotors. Like the videos.!!!
Whats the best fertilizer to make my lawn super green . I have 32 - 0 but it doesn't get that green . I'm in Canada where the Temps are 80 to 100 in summer.
I used your Elite PRG Mix in my full renovation last fall and it looks absolutely amazing at a half inch for only 10 months. I think I’m going to skip aeration, sand and over seed and just push it this fall.
Brown Stem Heads? On my second summer of lawn care, so I don’t really remember that from last year. Is there anything to keep that green? I’m surprised how much it is in my yard. Unless with a late spring, it’s pushing it into the summer heat?
Went on vacation and returned to burned out areas of my front and back KBG lawn in Illinois. Going to try to get the burned areas going again. Pretty confident it is not fungus or insect damage due to other applications I put down in June. Have been using Tnex PGR which has kept the length in check but not 100% sold yet on PGR. Would love more Midwest thoughts on the pgr program to try. Cheers!
Have the same issue with my KBG. Just came back from vacation today and I have brown spots everywhere. Not sure what it is. I put down grub killer a couple weeks ago and treated for brown patch also. I go away for a week and the brown spots are back. Ugh!
Have you leveled your backyard in the past with either sand or compost, soil mix? Ive seen the videos on the low cut turf but was curious if you ever have leveled the backyard with the higher cut turf (may have missed if you did a video on this, apologize if so). Recently had irrigation installed and have ripped up an old patio etc that has left some unevenness on the yard that I wanted to level. Current HOC is 3 1/4 inches on a mixture of Kentucky Blue & Fescue. Was going to cut down to around 2inch and level with sand, compost, soil mix and am thinking that is correct and similar to low cut turf. But wanted to run it by the guru! any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for all you do for the lawn community and knowledge you provide us all!
No leveling on the backyard. It will be somewhat difficult to get any soil to spread even at 2 inches so if you can find a topdresser anywhere that may work better
I notice all your experimental plots are 100% fully sun exposed. It would be interesting to have a tree or some source of partial shade over portions of each of them.
In a previous video a long time ago I seem to remember u using the Scott’s guard edgeguard spreader and I’m noticing on mine that fert gets thrown into the sides of the wheels since they have openings and the fert drops out of the wheels and leaves lines in my lawn, like over application lines so they are dark green, have u experienced this? I’m thinking of getting a new spreader now
For liquid fertilizer applications, how long should you wait after mowing before applying product? I noticed the SLS bottle says 24 hours, but wondered if that’s important or not.
I need to burn down my front and reseed with KBG. just don’t want to wait 26 days for germination. The rye def doesn’t handle heat well. I mean it’s been ok. But I have a patch that checks our really quick and I’m tired of these couple patches of random grass.
Bill Bugs have totally been a killer down here in Texas. I’ve been pulling dead grass out of my lawn for 2 months now. Never been a problem in the past. Thanks for the videos!
