This IS true! I took your advice last year using this I purchased at Sam's Club. My lawn went from green to Emerald green in Michigan. Incredible and very inexpensive!!
I live in panhandle of texas it was 96 degrees last week of September. Going to drop in 80s first week in October. The cold will probably set in mid to late October. Not sure conditions allow me to do this.
@@robertlevy4613 thanks for the info. Days get shorter and if it ever decides to cool down grass stops growing. As you know its been horribly hot and dry this year i Texas and September was mid to upper 90s. But We might be in 70s this week near Lubbock.
I wish I knew about this method earlier this year, during the spring... for us Warm Season grass guys, it would've been a game changer. With this info, I'll prepare for next year; time to dominate again.
I just did my first round of this last week based on your video from last year and I am MIND BLOWN. Now it’s time to try that Ammonium Sulfate. Great video George!
Hey if you want another lawn to do videos on that would be a whole new challenge you should get a place at Woodhaven Lakes campground. Totally different sandy soils. They have all kinds of fun for the family too! Pools, beach and a lot more.
The one thing you'll want to be aware of is that if you overdo it, the grass will grow like crazy and you'll have to mow a lot. Here in the Pacific Northwest (Washington State) where you get quite a lot of rain, this can be problematic as you won't be able to mow effectively due to wet grass and it can become quite a hassle. Also, note that you're effectively "charging" the grass for next spring, your lawn will be storing a lot energy for winter and it will go into "turbo" mode come next spring. So keep your lawn mower blades or reel sharpened and be ready for a sudden flush of growth.
Eastern WA here, and even though we can have dry summers on this side, you ain't kidding when you say too much wet grass growth can be a problem. The blade is so fast and easy to swap out on my push mower that I just keep a second blade sharpened and ready to swap in when the current blade shows signs of dulling. Easy to tell when that is because they don't mulch nearly as well when they're dull.
I've been watching a lot of your videos and finding them very helpful as I grow/maintain my new cool season lawn which was hydroseeded in May. It had tons of weeds in it. Got rid of most of them with 2 applications of tenacity. An application of quinclorac cleared out the rest. Now I'm focusing on thickening up the grass and filling the dead spots. Some new weeds are popping up so I was thinking another application of tenacity and maybe I could mix it with Blue Def to fertilize at the same time. Do you think there would be any problems with mixing them in one application? Thank you!
Two kinds of fast-release N: and the DEF (urea) is very fast and probably "gone" a couple days later. but the Ammonium sulfate will stick around for a bit longer. Both are fast release; a slow-release would be good to add later, too, depending on the time of year (how late in the Fall where you live is "late"?).
As a Jets fan, that Aaron Rodgers clip hit a little too close to home. 😂 George, do you use the spiky tines or the verticut cartridge when doing your dethatch?
I was in fear for your Toes while you dethatched, you do know what that machine will do to your foot if run over for any reason while holding that trigger right? Your lawn looks great after this and some great info/advise
Blitz definitely works! I'm just using Scott's Lawnfood weekly on my new 1000 sq ft side yard- and it's well on its way to quickly spreading into the harder to establish washout areas along with maturing. My main front is now a year old, and I'm hitting it with bi weekly apps. Both are lawns need mowed every three days, and are pretty much the darkest green lawn in the entire neighborhood. Definitely will do an ammonium sulfate + feature liquid app maybe 2-3 weeks before Oct 31, and then call it a wrap.
George ... regarding AMS vs Urea ... for those with lower than suggested pH, it seems that using too much of AMS may not be beneficial. So for me at pH 6.1 I try to do the 8:1 (Urea to AMS) ratio. Also, that AMS you're using, prills look pretty big. No issue with uneven color afterwards? I know I like to stick with small prill size fertilizers when it comes to granular for more even coverage.
Looks great. To bad I have a 1+ acre yard, and this way of applying spray would bankrupt me as well as wear my old bod out. There is no way I could get a consistent application over the lawn spraying. Heck, I's still trying to just kill all the weeds !
I will be doing the dex trick and the Epson salt trick to grow the lawn. I need to also treat for weeds with MSNA +6. In what order and timing would you recommend? For application ???
George, Any issues, concerns if i do fall over seeding and the fall nitrogen blitz? Thought would be to wait til new grass is up a couple inches (3-4 weeks) then start the blitz. Just didn't how if it would stress new grass. Thanks in advance for the advice Randy
Hi Keith! to answer your question.. our lawns cant feed on nitrogen once they go into domancy which is why its important to use fast release fert so it can absorb as much and as fast as possible before it goes to bed so when spring arrives, it will blast off
If I overseeded my lawn a month ago, can I begin using this fertilizer program to finish out my fall feeding before heading into winter? I live in Ohio btw(cool season)
Thanks man! The wheels are from the 2016 Toyota Forrunner TRD Pro. The Toyota dealership in my neighborhood had them on clearance so I scooped them up and they turned out great 👍
Hello George Thanks for all the work you do and share, greatly appreciated. Quick question: What setting on a Scott drop spreader should I use for the ammonium sulfate? Thank you.
Good morning! im not sure what setting it would be but i would advise you to set it to the lowest possible setting and keep walking over your lawn multiple times until its emptied. This is a common best practice that will ensure you get even coverage, it may take long to spread since you have to go over it multiple times due to the slow distribution but you can be rest assured it will be spread even. Have a great day!
Hi George! Looks amazing! Quick question, can you do this if you just overseeded your lawn and applied starter fertilizer 12-12-12? I'm assuming no. TIA

can you use this on a newly seeded and sprouted 2 week old fescue lawn? I did a overseed
