  • COVID-19 and the Tobacco Mosaic Virus, an unusual encounter
Professor Ileana Constantinescu is currently the Head of Immunology of Transplantation Discipline, at the Faculty of Medicine, "Carol Davila" University, in Bucharest, the National Coordinator of Health transplantation of organs, the Director of Department for Grants and Scientific Research of the "Carol Davila" University and Director of Centre for Immunogenetics and Virology. She completed her PhD in Clinical Endocrinology, VH Wales College in 1996. She Published more than 40 Journals.
Professor Constantinescu is explaining us the unusual immunologic reaction to the Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV), looking at a century of research in this area of science. Although a mainstream argues that this virus may not infect humans, she describes how this could happen. Could this mainstream be covering some mysterious protein? Surprisingly, should one have a guess about the immune response to this virus as shown in several publications to which other virus it resembles, most probably physicians would say “COVID-19”. Why should humans become immune against a virus which under normal circumstances would not infect? Once scientists found this virus in the lungs of COVID-19 patients but not in the lungs of people suffering from other respiratory disease, one might wonder how it got there, since it may not happen by smoking. Could we have dealt with a different pandemic, than what we were told? What never made much sense in case of a respiratory disease, seems to be crystal clear for a premeditated mass infection with the TMV.
Professor Constantinescu is willing to further investigate this topic an facilitate the testing of this virus in Romania, to unlock its mysterious role in the replication of coronaviruses. Corona is partly associated with a prion disease. From prions we know that they do not easily spread like that and the passage from outside the body requires the presence of antigen presenting cells, which then carry the protein to the dendritic cells. “Specialized epithelial cells of the mucosal immune system called microfold (M) cells sample luminal contents and pass them to innate immune cells residing on the other side in the lamina propria. M cells can transport prions from their apical surface contacting the lumen to their basolateral side to antigen presenting cells (APCs) waiting in the lamina propria.” Prions-Not Your Immunologist’s Pathogen - PMC (nih.gov). Does it mean that a mechanical lesion of epithelial cells (nasal swabbing) could facilitate the inoculation with the TMV which shares a filamentous morphology with the scrapie-associated fibril, a candidate structure for the scrapie virus and thus induce neurodegenerative disorders? www.nature.com/articles/32038...
May this respond to the question why smokers were more resistant to COVID-19 than non-smokers? Should the spike protein of vaccine resemble the sequences of this TMV protein, then one might argue that a mysterious concept of immunization is at work. Since such a pathogen agent acts with host control, it might be a mechanism to harm all humans with one or other genetical susceptibility to neurodegenerative diseases.
