    As someone who lives in a very snowy climate...I like the steering a bit heavier...yes, that's definitely an AWD thing...I've had FWD, RWD, and AWD cars...but AWD definitely feel a bit more sluggish, even sport sedans...🤷‍♂️ in places with heavy snow and ice...that's not bad for every day driving...🤔🤨🤷‍♂️

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  2 роки тому +1

      Very true, Mark Flatt. I prefer RWD, but AWD definitely has its uses in the right environment, even if it's more sluggish. Thanks for sharing and for watching!

    Super review Chris - I was happy with Cadillacs styling themes over the past 2 decades, and I'm happy with the direction Cadillac is on now. However...that C-pillar? I can't get over it. It makes the rest of the beautifully detailed car less high-end IMHO.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah. They went with a fastback/hatchback look. I actually like it. Helps to give a muscular-looking rear end. But it's definitely a personal preference thing. Thanks for watching, Carlo Garcia!

    That c-pillar notch ( and the lack of a fully digital cockpit) is the only eye sore in an otherwise gorgeously aggressive design. Thanks as always for the review, Chris!!

      The c-pillar definitely has a love/hate relationship with some people, Cornbread 70's. We like it and it may be something you have to see in person to get the full effect. We're just happy Cadillac has taken some exterior design chances again - for better or worse.😅 Thanks for watching!

    I like my 2020 CT5 premium luxury Caddy. Not the first AWD car I've owned and I can say AWD is great, giving the car road gripping and handling characteristics that no rear or front WD cars can match. Plenty of power and comfort for a sporty ride that is selectable between touring or snow and ice or customizable. Lots of extras! Complex powertrain discourages DIY maintenance though...

    I used to be a RWD fan ,however, new RWD cars are so full of safety tech that they feel stable and friendly. But, lately fast FWD cars are extremely fun on local roads. The steering wheel dynamics makes you feel the performance 👊, which, connects you with the car like a RWD car from back in the 90's.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 роки тому +1

      We agree, front-wheel drive cars can be enjoyable, Steven R, but that's typically only the case with smaller, higher horsepower examples. In regards to the RWD safety nannies sapping your fun, most manufacturers will allow you to turn them off enough to enjoy the car and not hurt yourself. Even Lexus has realized (and allowed) that in a couple of their models. Of course, if the chassis is crap, none of that matters. 😅 Thank you for sharing and watching!

    Great Review Chris. This is a nice car. However, I feel that this CT5 and the smaller CT4 should have included larger trunks. People that buy cars still want trunk space.

    • @AutoAcademics

    I'm going to give the CT5 Blackwing a chance when it comes but the Gen III CTS-V is super aggressive looking. I can live with the RWD because I have a 4x4 when the snow hits. I would get a CTS 4s Wagon if I didn't have the Jeep

    Man, your my new automotoanalyzist. An autophile reviewer who actually owns a classic sees things plan-old reviewers simply don't! One thing, "Don't rev the engine in neutral." That's what my dad always told me, just put it in drive with your foot on the brake.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 роки тому

      Thank you, Rad GGS. We do have many years of "car-loving" going on over here. LOL There's a lot to unpack here, but we'll see if we can shed a little light on this for you.
      For info, when we revved the engine during the startup sequence, it was in Park. However, the only other way to rev the engine of an automatic is in Neutral. Note: WE DO NOT CONDONE NOR RECOMMEND THIS. If you try to rev the engine while in drive, a couple of things may happen, but revving the engine isn't one of them. The only way to rev an engine is when it is not in gear/drive thus allowing the engine to run freely. When in gear, the car will just drive.
      On newer "non-performance" cars, the car may just bog down or the computer will kill the throttle as a safety measure because the brake pedal was being pressed at the same time as the throttle. On old cars, the revs may increase a bit, but not much else will happen, especially if the car does not make enough torque to overpower the brakes. On performance cars (old or new) that make enough torque, the revs will increase and you'll feel the car "load up" or squat, then it will eventually start to spin the drive wheels if you continue to press (and increase) the throttle. We believe the terminology for that is called "power braking." On some cars, this can be a nice way to build up torque for speedy starts from a standstill, but it depends on the car and, again, it will only work on cars that do not kill the throttle, plus you'll create greater wear on your drive components and brakes.
      All that being said, we don't disagree with your dad about revving in neutral, specifically if you don't know what you're doing or if your plan is to slap it in drive while the revs are still up. That's not good for the transmission. From a standstill, the car technically should be fine, as long as it's warmed up properly first.
      We realize that explanation was probably not very clear, but we had to try. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Chris, compared to the ct6, how much less roomier is the ct5? I’m looking at a ct5 now but would prefer the ct6 that I can’t find anywhere cpo. Why they stopped making them, who knows

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 роки тому +1

      The CT6 is much roomier than the CT5, makeup Fiend 84. Think S-class versus C-class. We were impressed by how comfortable the rear seat was in the CT5, but it doesn't compare to the CT6. Check out our review of the CT6 if you haven't yet and you'll see the difference. However, as long as you are not over 6 feet, the backseat of the CT5 should be just fine, with the exception of that center hump.😅 Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      Thank you, RON B. We guess since Chevy doesn't sell cars anymore, that allows Caddy free reign of the exterior design book.😅 We like the current design direction for Cadillac, though. It's more aggressive like it was in the early to mid-2000s. Thanks for sharing and for watching!

    This Caddy looks very random to me. Could have been a Hyundai as well..
    And what with the trunk? The car sure looks like a hatchback/liftback, and then all you get is a little trunkdoor?
    I don't think I will see these Caddy a lot in Europa. Most are big 10 to 15 y.o. models.

      Greetings, FrankypankyV8! That rear end will definitely be a point of contention, but we like it here at AutoAcademics.😁 We'll have to see if the general population agrees, though. The CT6 has the Blackwing twin turbo V8 engine which is lovely, but the smaller cars have to make due with V6s, Gene Booher. Fortunately, they're good V6s. Thanks for watching!

    • @UnenthusedEnthusiast
      @UnenthusedEnthusiast 3 роки тому +2

      The CT5 will have a blackwing as well. The V6 335hp and the "V" V6 (I believe with 365hp are still very good options. It's funny though, when KIA puts almost the same engine in their stinger people love it... Caddy does anything these days and people love to bash it. It's a shame, I feel caddy is truly a contender again and I hope they hold on to their sedans, unlike the rest of GM. Great review!

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 роки тому

      @@UnenthusedEnthusiast Sadly, Cadillac earned some of the bashing and now has to prove their worth again, ZK. When a $40k car outperforms (even if only slightly) and looks better than a $60k car, it's easy to praise the former and chastise that latter. It's human nature for us to look for value, a wow factor, or both, especially when money is involved. Fortunately, Cadillac is showing promise again. If we hold them accountable, they'll rise to the occasion. We're happy to see this and so is Chris because his wagon is getting old.😅 Thanks for sharing and for watching!

As long as the tech works, we'll accept it. Nobody wants to change a tire in the rain. But the tech better work, because nobody wants to be stranded in the rain, either. 😅 Thanks for watching!

    The engine is too small and overly complicated for affordable repair and uokeep!!!!! A normally aspirated V8 is best. The OHC V6s are pieces of unreliable crap. GM needs a new and reliable V6 without timing chain breakdowns. GM should bring back the OHV 3800 V6 and develop it for more power without turbo.
