Thank you! Yeah, my basic knives are adequate for about 95% of my kitchen use. That other 5% is going to be much more enjoyable now. 😀

The trouble with serrated knives in that situation is that the force required can result in serious injury if the knife slips. It's much safer to use a large cook's knife, kept nice and sharp. I see you have one in your knife block. A diamond sharpening tool will keep it well honed.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just starting to learn about what knife is best for a given task and what makes a good knife, so all suggestions are welcome. 😀

    You'll notice that
1: Your Venture Pro cuts the sweet potato evenly because the blade is thicker. The thicker blade does not bend when you apply pressure like your thin steak knife does. When cutting into hard vegetables you want stability.
2: Your tomato knife has the advantage on the -soft- tomato slicing over your Venture Pro for 3 reasons. It's thin, it has teeth/serrations . The third reason is that your Venture Pro has lost it's edge. If you intend to use and enjoy your Venture Pro, strongly consider on learning how to sharpen it.
There's a lot of factors that go into sharpening. If I were you, I'd first buy a leather strop with some polishing compound. It's simple and effective for minor tune-ups. You can do it watching tv. Best of luck :)

Thanks Nick! I'll keep those observations in mind when I'm choosing a knife for a particular job. Also, thanks for suggesting the leather strop and polishing compound. I'll be sure to pick those up. 😀
