Josephine Shaw - Tornami A Vagheggiar (Alcina) by H. F. Handel

As part of Hertfordshire Opera's Opera Gala Evening Josephine Shaw performed Tornami A Vagheggiar, an aria from Handel’s opera Alcina which plays out like a modern day romcom. Morgana, who is absolutely besotted with Ruggiero, has misconstrued his actions, thinking that he reciprocates her romantic feelings. She waxes lyrical about her love for him and how wonderful a couple they will be, not knowing that Ruggiero is actually a woman in disguise and wholly uninterested.

What a delightful and enchanting performance from Josephine Shaw who portrayed wholeheartedly and convincingly the role of Morgana. I am sure that Josephine is a name to watch out for in the future!

Lvely singing performance from Josephine - a beautiful voice and a great rendition of a difficult aria. The orchestra's tuning sounded a bit off at times and there were a few wrong notes, but it was a spirited performance. Pity about what sounded to be a fart when the conductor bent down at 5:04 - it perhaps should have been tactfully edited out !
