@@progger53: Williams wrote it on his own; it was released on 45 in Oct 1971. Bloodrock followed in 1972, Stray Dog in '73. As for why different people claimed writer's credit, maybe it's a Texan thing....
Gary Pe;lrey a drummer from Dallas ntroduced me to Jerry and the first time I met him he was sitting in a pile of casette tapes with a mexican serapi on smoking a huge joint. he starting singing and I saw angels flying around him swear to it Jerry was on a different frequency. Very blessed to have been in his presence. What a voice.
Nice running into this... Jerry was an exceptional talent. I was blessed to play with him off and on for years....... Mr. Solid Gold And WHAT a wildman he was
I did a cover of this with my brother and best friend, thinking it was a Bloodrock original tune. Actually played it at a party that Jim Rutledge played.
I just found a copy in my record collection...It's very rare from what i found looking for a copy of the vinyl online..Grin ..Nicky Hopkins..Jim Gordon..backing him
Jerry was better than you know, Bonnie, Eric, Stevie, and others owe him big time for the songs he wrote them, I was his neighbor for years up on the Hill, here in Leonard, he had just come out with PeaceMaker and then traveled around with Charlie Daniels opening up and sharing the Stage, he was a good man, bad temper, who ain't if your pissed, but he is missed, but his last album I know he worked a lot harder because I think he might have known at the time what was coming.
Really confusing who actually was first on this song? There's versions by Bloodrock 1971 and Stray Dog 73, but Snuffy Walden is a prolific Texas songwriter too. Does anyone know if they ever collaborated?
I was with Jerry when this was written and recorded... know all the songs...Linda Williams
I'm not saying he didn't write it...Then why does Bloodrock (r. Kate & S. Garrett) and Stray Dog ( Snuffy Smith Walden) have different authors?
@@progger53 it's going to be hard to prove at this point. I like all three versions personally.

@@progger53 Well, Snuffy also took credit for "writing" Chevrolet which was a ZZ Top tune, so they probably took credit for things they re-arranged.
Linda, this is Jim and Jim and David used to run around out there in Benbrook hadn’t heard from anybody in long time

Here through Clapton, staying for Jerry..
This needs to be on a reissue. I've got the Stray Dog and Bloodrock versions, but the original isn't available anywhere.
Nice! 🎼😃🎼
One of my favourite songs ever.
I am in shock ! I have done several Jerry Lynn Williams songs, over the years, but, I had NOT heard any from this album. Rest, Jerry Lynn, in peace.
Mind = Blown! Damnit that was great!
WOW!!!! I did a cover of this one with my project Mountain of Power, thinking it was a Stray Dog original!! This version is AWESOME!!!!

Bloodrock did it a year earlier then Stray Dog. Blackrock sped it up a lot more.
@@jonathonfuqua6730 Even two years earlier :-). Bloodrock in 71 and Stray Dog in 73 :-). And yeah, theirs was a lot faster!
Can't wait to find this badass in the record store!

Where is more?
Wow, Gotta Dig it!
I bet this is where Soundgarden got their sound from
The Bloodrock (r. Kate's & S. Garrett) and Stray Dog (Snuffy Walden) versions give different writing credits.
Not to be confused with LITTLE Jerry Williams (aka Swamp Dogg) - the two are sometimes linked.

This one and the Bloodrock version were both released in Oct. 1971 from what I found researching it.
