      (3)flip screen.

Already had my a7iii and won’t get an a7C. The size difference would’ve driven me to get the a7C with a Ronin SC, but then DJI released the RSC2, which has no issues with my a7iii now.
The flip screen would’ve been great, along with the focusing, but they’re not enough to make me pay more.
I still would like a 2nd body, but maybe waiting to see what Sony does with the a7iv (whenever that may be) is my best thing to do.

Bought A7C instead of A7iii, even with the sale...
      - Smaller, main priority. Will use with small primes.
      - Travel camera... It was this, or A6400, and preferred full size
      - Not price sensitive... paid extra for full frame, but did not want a larger camera
      - Don't care at all about the single SD card slot as a hobby camera
The market for this are new buyers who previously have not bought cameras primarily due to physical size, who are not price sensitive, and where full-frame is a selling point.
Sony will sell a ton of these - just not to existing A7iii owners, it's not an upgrade. The existing A7iii owners will upgrade to either A7S (for video) or A7iv (for photo). Makes total sense to someone who is new to the ecosystem, and who prioritizes size.
Main issue now is the idea is powerful but small/light... And there are only so many quality lenses which fit this criteria...

Coming from a6400, never really shot a full frame camera (I held an a7ii in my hands briefly). No joystick, meh evf, no front dial, non issues for me.. As I've learned to live with it. Hopefully coming in Friday with a viltrox 85mm...

      It has faster processor.
Light and small. I used cameras mostly for travel.

I bought Sony A7iii.... build quality and the grip feels good. A7C doesn’t add much more to what A7iii already has. Although A7C seems really compelling to buy as it seems small or compact. Once we put a good lense on it. Everything boils down to what I need. EVF is much needed for my go to A7iii 👍🏻either way both are great

Got both! I’m a mid-level shooter, not a professional, so both cameras fit my needs. Upgrading from the A7s, the A7SIII is exciting, but $3500 for one camera body is too much 😭 So I got the A7III to use as my main work camera for hybrid work paired with my Sony 24-70 GM lens and purchased it recently brand new for only $1606 - body only - in B&H (EDU Advantage pricing)!
I got weak arms, so I need a smaller camera to use on my gimbal and to use as a B Cam, so the A7C’s smaller size is perfect (it is also less intimidating for my hubby to use). Bought it brand new for $1888 with the 28-60mm kit lens (once again, with student pricing from B&H)!

This is a tricky one! I´ve been considering the a7iii for months but I am a bit scared to pull the trigger. I kinda feel like I am missing out on some of the new features like the new digital stabilization, the improved AF and the new screen, compared to the C (or a7siii, or a7iv..) However, I would like to have the ability to maybe start doing some paid gigs at some point, and I agree that those missing dual card slots are a dealbreaker and the fact that it is so compact might not look good for the potential client. One option ofcourse is to wait for the A7iv but I would be stretching my reasonable budget with the A7iii so A7iv probably would be a bit too much... gotta be able to afford that sigma 24-70 aswell 😅

So me and my business partner own a Sony A7Siii. It's our main camera for what we do, and I was looking for a personal camera that would also double as a B cam if need be. I say that because I think if we didn't own that camera, I'd have bought the A7III.
I bought the A7C for a number of reasons but ultimately, after seeing the world through the A7Siii I could not go back to the old, slightly magenta tinted world of Sony's previous color science. It's a small difference, but ultimately the one that put it over the top for me.

I bought the A7C over A7III. Reasons, new color science, no record limit, more portable, better Autofocus, gyro stabilization post, flip out screen. And one so few people mention... resale value. I figure I can get 90% back if the A7IV comes out in the near future. The A7III are already depreciating and it will only get greater when its successor comes out. At least that's what I'm betting on.

Spot on review, too bad I watched it after purchasing A7C kit. I've now returned the A7C and promptly bought just the A7iii body and couldn't be happier. A7C feels like a toy for photography, the size differences are overblown too. The biggest let down to me was the EVF and lack of buttons/wheels, the nipple joystick is a real deal breaker too. The 28-60 kit lens isn't bad, but I feel this range is better covered with a quality prime. It has really bad purple fringing at F4.0 too. You only buy the A7C for light gimbal vlog use, otherwise just go with the superior A7iii. Even the buttons feel better quality.

It is totally made for people like me! I am video focused and mostly record myself (drumcovers, talking head) for UA-cam. Therefore the flipscreen is veeery handy. Also, I like to take pictures of my children when they play and run around the house. I tried the Sony A7III, but I really was unimpressed by the autofocus, which gets worse when shooting video. The flapping doors on the A7III were horrible, and having a mic and a pair of headphones connected most of the time, they would have broken within 2-3 months. I like the better colors, the better autofocus and the flipscreen a lot! Coming from the rather cheap Canon M50, I just can't without those features. I am still gonna wait for the Sony A7IV before investing my money into any of those cameras. Hoping for a fully capable touchscreen though!

This may be a strange statement, but I’d rather have one UHS-II card than a dual card slot solution that uses UHS-I as one of the card slots. I briefly tried the A7III and found the card write times to be painfully slow when using both card slots in redundant mode, especially when coming from a Z6 with a super fast XQD card. I started with mu43 cameras and my favourite bodies were the Panasonic GX8, GX80 and GX9. This A7c reminds me of those cameras and looks really good. The A7c looks good for an enthusiast travel or family documentary shooter and I am tempted.

This camera saved me some money :D I was ready to buy the Canon R6 from Sony, than they anounced A7C... I needed a camera - I ended buying A7III with more than 2 years of warranty second hand for 1200 euro. Thanks Sony for saving me money :).
PS you forgot to share with us the truth about the shutter in this camera. It is crippled to one curtain like in the A3000, A5000, A5100 and it ruins your bokeh on speeds above 1/1000. It messes up the photos with flash in HSS because of the one curtain... For me the A7C is a huge fail. It is not small, it lack a lot of buttons and grip and backup options (not for pros), it is expensive... I think they wanted to create something to put against EOS R but ...
It was going to be much better to simply make a facelift of the A7III. A paid firmware update or a A7III with the flip screen. I really do not know what were they thinking...

Pointless in most real world scenarios except for streaming in which case you're better served by A6600+Sigma 16mm F1.4 (I have this setup). FF is overkill because the stream is so compressed there's no benefit. You might say it's for the bokeh but at some point your background will start to look fake and tiny focus area will work the camera very hard if you move, even the best lenses will hunt. Otherwise when do you really need a single clip to be longer than 30min? Very few situations, but I can see the need for assembly, cooking time lapse style videos

When you are trying to show the indentation/step-down in A7C at 2:35, it's a little annoying that the focus is not on it and is still locked onto your eyes. Maybe you should be holding the camera so that it blocks your eyes when showing such features (I'm not sure if A7C has the "product showcase" feature that does this automatically, when enabled). Not a criticism, just a point so that you can do this in the future, if you want to.

Chris, love your video pal. Honestly, I'm a fan and I gain such a wealth of knowledge from them. Can I ask that you please stop shooting in a such a shallow depth of field and then continue to show products in your hands. They're never in focus, nor do they ever reach focus when you extend your arm out. Either increase your aperture or just stick to using your beautiful b-roll footage where needed so that it accompanies the footage of you (without products) and then continues over as V/O through the B-roll. You do this very well. Watch the video back with what I've told you especially when you're comparing it to a camera 03:34. I can't see either of them clearly.
Just a tip I thought I'd share. I think it's better if we are honest and look to help one another grow. Again, I'm a fan and would love for you to be the best you can be.
Take care pal. Hope I won the competition for the a7siii small rig. 😂

The weight difference is the reason why one camera sounds louder then the other the c is lighter so more noise. You do realize that the c cam was never meant to be a pro cam so one sd card slot is fine . 2 the small EVF is because this cam main propose is to shoot video reasons it has a flip out screen . There two completely different cam for 2 different uses

I never got why the a7III had only two custom slots on the mode dial. My a7RIII has three and it came out before the a7III. I don't see how a third one would be some fundamental drag on the hardware, nor do I see adding it as something that would undercut sales of more expensive models, but I'm not an expert so take that as you may lol.

Compared to 28-70mm i used for a long time, it is day n night sharper, more compact and simply better. Just use it as placeholder to save for lens you really want

    • @CarlBergsdorf
      @CarlBergsdorf 3 роки тому +1

Personally never so far BUT I don't think that's a risk professinals can take. It's one thing for us amateurs who shoot some photos every now and again but if you're an event or marrige photographer, you can't afford to let that happen, even if the chances are so slim. Imagine what that would do with your reputation and I don't think the client will care too much about your reason. It's ultimately the photographers responsibility to make sure this doesn't happen, hence why you often see them carrying two cameras as well.

    - Better AF

    - Upgraded colors
    - Better design (Flaps are more solid and headphone jack isn't in the way of the display)
    - IBIS + Catalyst Browse
