I’d been dying to try this! For context I have high porosity fine coily hair. I normally do treatments overnight, but by the end of these 2 weeks I cut the time down more and more.
Like others have said, you definitely shouldn't do this every day(especially if you don't wash your hair every day normally). It'll lead to too much protein in the hair and may make your hair fall out more frequently. The key to this method is to encourage growth and strengthen hair for length retention. Most people who try to grow their hair and don't see results think that their hair is just not growing when in reality your hair is just growing and breaking off. The protein barrier makes the hair strong enough to survive the day to day damage we do to it so it can have a chance to grow. I have done the rice water method and I gained at least a foot of hair. I went from having collar bone length hair to having lower back length hair in about 1 year. I haven't done it in a while and I'm still retaining the length. My method was to wash the rice, then rinse them again with clean water. I would take the rice and put it in a cut off leg of panty hose and then place the panty hose over an empty jar and hold it in place with a rubber band(basically creating a funnel). Then I would pour water over it until the water in the jar was high enough to touch the little funnel of rice(that way it would steep like a tea bag. Then I would allow that to sit open for about 2 days to ferment. I would then add an oil(this will obviously separate because that's science) to help with moisturizing and the smell. I used tea tree oil or peppermint oil because they can stimulate the scalp and encourage growth and they have a powerful smell. I wouldn't do this if you are sensitive to certain oils and make sure you are using an oil that is designed for or safe for hair care and don't use too much. I would recommend a few drops of an essential oil of your choice plus a carrier oil(coconut oil, olive oil, argan oil etc.). Once I'm done fermenting I would store in the refrigerator after each use to slow the fermentation process. When using it I would wash and condition my hair as normal and then pour rice water over my hair. I would let it sit for no more than a few minutes and then rinse it out. Then add product to hair and/or style as normal. I would only use it once a wash(once a week) or every other wash(every other week). Don't even check the length, just let it grow for a while.
You can’t wash that much, you will get protein overload in your hair and it will actually become more brittle. I can’t believe these people didn’t research anything for themselves before this. 😳
Excited to see your video. However rice water destroyed my hair and hair line back in 2019. I had 22 inch of hair had to cut to 15 inch with breakage and hair. Now my hair is getting better but the density is not the same. So people please be careful with rice water or other products. My hair is now 24.4 inches but it is not the same. I am Nicaraguan Haitian American mix with ethnic cruly wavy hair but please be careful.
I feel like genetics is more why those women have such long hair. Your hair is only going to grow so long before it falls out. Also while I don't know much about this treatment I feel like overnight probably isn't good because you don't need to leave crap on your scalp
I've looked up why rice water works, and it has a lot to do with porosity level, which is how your hair accepts and holds water. They all might have medium to high porosity hair, which means that their hair accepts water well, and quickly gets wet
Totally genetics. I have long thick and straight hair. The longest Ive ever grown it is to my waist. Right now it’s almost there but I probably have to chop it soon, it gives me migraines cause it’s so heavy.
They did not do proper research. What were they thinking? Is the rice water magically transform their hair after they wash it every day? That is common sense. This remedy does work if done properly.
Its supposed to be put on the scalp because that's where your hair grows. The dryness is protien overload, yall are using it way too often...Maybe do research before you make a video. This is just lazy.
Rice water is a protein treatment! You should NOT being doing it more than twice a month. You can actually damage your hair with too much protein if you're doing this every day!
I was super worried!! A natural hair youtuber I followed tried rice water and it ruined her hair. She got protein overload so her hair got really dry and she had to cut it. I'm glad Maya changed the routine to fit her hair after she noticed negative changes, but still 😬
Every time I use rice water I pair it with a short scalp massage. Rice water is basically a natural protein treatment. If you do it too frequently, you will definitely dry your hair out. I don't use it often bc my hair is naturally strong and pretty long (thanks grandma!) but when I do, I spray once a day for a week + the scalp massage, leaving it in for no more than an hour on clean hair. Any extra, I use in place or in addition to my leave-in of choice. And idk if the type of rice matters, but I always use black rice. White rice, in my opinion, is probably too processed already to be very effective.
I actually did this and I dyed my hair so I could visibly see the results and within a month I had my roots already grown out so much and I used it only one time bc mine smelled
I dont use anything other then warm water and rice water rinses on my hair. And it took me a few tries and a lot of research to get the perfect mix for my hair. But dont give up if you really wanna try it.
This is just my opinion, but your hair won’t grow long and healthy if you; A, cut it all the time. B, dye it all the time. C, use heat all the time. Also, it’s to do with genes, my family has great hair, it’s down to my butt, I’ve cut (and donated it) twice in the last 8 years.
I don’t think your supposed to do this so often it’s more of a treatment for once and awhile otherwise your hair gets too much protein and can become brittle
Sooo you guys saw Viori shampoo bars that come directly from a woman who works with the Red Yao women and thought, let's try this and see what happens? One of the reasons it works for the Red Yao women is because they use their local rice and a process they have had for hundreds of years if not longer. Viori is amazing and my hair is longer and thicker than ever from using it!!! Look it up, I bet you're going to love it!!!
Gosh, you're supposed to moisturize your hair right after putting this on your non-cleansed hair and don't use it the whole week. Fortnightly on washday or so and follow up with moisture products to avoid protein overload.
I’ve been using rice water for 2 years now I used rice water in my hair as a LEAVE IN I don’t rinse it out until I’m ready for my wash day but because I don’t want too much protein I do this ever three to four months my hair has grown significantly with that protective styling and low manipulation (MY hair seems to like it and takes to it this way)
READ IF YOU HAVE LOW POROSITY HAIR! If you use rice water cut it with ACV so you don’t overload your hair with protein & make it brittle! Also try to do it every other week for about 30 minutes with heat!
Don't put the rice in the jar, only the 2 time you wash you then poor it in. You're also supposed to wait for 1 week or 3/4 months, leaving the rice water in your hair for 20 to 30 minutes then rinse. You can use it for 7 days in a week, wait a month then use it again, but if your hair easily has/gets protein over load then you should only use it once a month
I'm sure that the Ya Women did other things than just using the rice water- also they live in a place where they are all the same race... so that means they have the same hair type! So this hair type seems to react to rice water the best. I'm not doubting the Ya Women, but I do doubt the rice water youtube videos lolll
I used to use only rice water once a week after i wash my hair and leave it about 30mins and wash it and my hair growth so fast i use it for like 4 months or 5

Q: Why are frogs so happy?
A: They eat whatever bugs them
This may be more effective when used with a derma roller.
Yupp
Yall need to post more lindsay jazz vids. I cant get enough i love them 🥰😔
the protein overload
I find Spencer so amusing!
I was super worried!! A natural hair youtuber I followed tried rice water and it ruined her hair. She got protein overload so her hair got really dry and she had to cut it. I'm glad Maya changed the routine to fit her hair after she noticed negative changes, but still 😬
they really should've diluted it all I'm thinking is PROTEIN OVERLOAD PROTEIN OVERLOAD PROTEIN OVERLOAD
when they started saying their curls disappeared i KNEW it was protein overload 🤦🏾♀️
We‘re just so impatient nowadays xD
Okay but vivian is so pretty
"it stinks"
What do you expect. It's fermented. Fermented products don't always smell the best
I dont use anything other then warm water and rice water rinses on my hair. And it took me a few tries and a lot of research to get the perfect mix for my hair. But dont give up if you really wanna try it.
Them: "...has gained a ton of popularity recently"
Also them: *shows thumbnails from like a year ago*
I dont get why they would need to wash their hair more than usual lol, just use it before you'd wash your hair anyway, not evey day
This is just my opinion, but your hair won’t grow long and healthy if you;
A, cut it all the time.
B, dye it all the time.
C, use heat all the time.
Also, it’s to do with genes, my family has great hair, it’s down to my butt, I’ve cut (and donated it) twice in the last 8 years.
This should not be used often and refrain from using ginger oil. It could make your hair worse. @Kayley Melissa explains this in-depth in her videos.
When your job is to crunch out trendy videos, but the trend you need to crunch out takes more than two weeks to properly demonstrate XD
Also try to do it every other week for about 30 minutes with heat!
i just feel like they didn’t use it properly lol also ive heard using it too much like everyday can damage the hair and it’ll over load on protein
True. Use flax seed gel instead. Makes your hair shiny and smooth and grows your hair so fast.
Ur doing great brie larson
Don't put the rice in the jar, only the 2 time you wash you then poor it in. You're also supposed to wait for 1 week or 3/4 months, leaving the rice water in your hair for 20 to 30 minutes then rinse. You can use it for 7 days in a week, wait a month then use it again, but if your hair easily has/gets protein over load then you should only use it once a month
I’m so maya!! No way I’d wash my hair more than once a week with shampoo. Curly girl problems lol
Awww i don’t think your supposed to use the rice water so much. That’s like giving yourself a keratin treatment everyday
You don't use it every other day you use it once a week according to Brad Mondo whom I trust
Everyone complaining how stinky it is, 9:32 literally just beaming with positivity.
I'm sure that the Ya Women did other things than just using the rice water- also they live in a place where they are all the same race... so that means they have the same hair type! So this hair type seems to react to rice water the best. I'm not doubting the Ya Women, but I do doubt the rice water youtube videos lolll
Soo.. can we stop with internet gimmicks for “hair growth” and start focusing on proper hair care and eating a balanced diet for healthier hair?
yall rice gives ur hair protein so if you do it everyday your hair would become dry and brittle from protein overload
Is ginger oil really necessary???
What is the exact procedure??
I used to use only rice water once a week after i wash my hair and leave it about 30mins and wash it and my hair growth so fast i use it for like 4 months or 5
Protein overload
I did this twice a week for 2 weeks and got a quarter of an inch in growth but of course I stuck to my regular wash routine.
Maya looks so sweet I wish I had a friend like that
waitt i think they did the treatment too much ???? its more of protein overload in their hair-
You're only supposed to wash your hair once a week. Also I'm pretty sure Spencer got oily hair because she uses shampoo. In Curly Gurl life you dont really use shampoo and you only wash your hair once a week at most anyways.
Instead of rice water please use flax seed gel. It works as magic. It shows results with one use.
What kind of results?
@@HeyThereHiThereHoThere it is an all in one treatment. It helps your hair to regrow, adds shine to them, smoothens it and the length of your hair also increases. All of this with one use. You can also add aloe vera gel and coconut or olive oil to it.
try doing the inversion method/washing ur hair upside down next
Was very excited to watch this. Also wish you guys would have included a few more ppl. Just to give a bit more hair diversity.
