This is one of the most evocative clips of the era I've seen - because it's so candid and relatable (just snacking on a bench) it seems more "real" and touchable. Thanks for sharing this.
It’s just so bizarre seeing these kids mannerisms so spot on to how kids are today, even from my own childhood during the early 2000s…some things just will always be ageless!
Very nice crisp images. I really like how everyone is dressed so neatly. Today people would go in flip flops and pajamas. That IS one thing missing today...people don't dress nice to go special places.
@@Vlad-wl3fw, George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother did visit the 1939 New York World’s Fair at one point. Unfortunately, I don’t think Elizabeth and Margaret Rose came along.
I WISH I CAN GO BACK TO THOSE TIMES. I WANT TO GO BACK FURTHER THAN THIS LIKE THE MIDDLE 20'S TO THE 30'S BECAUSE I WANT TO MEET THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN CREATION, LOUISE BROOKS, WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE BUILT A TIME MACHINE.
Steven Cohn on all these 1939 WF videos I look for a brass bald eagle atop one of the flagpoles. I’ve found that eagle on a couple of these videos. That eagle, formerly on a swastica, was donated to the 1939 Fair by Hitler. It ended up at the top of the flagpole at my school. I used to look up at it and marvel at its history!
Some of those vending stands look identical to the ones that are now at the US Open tennis complex that sit on the same grounds. I wonder if they’re the actual original ones…
Not one of these people suspecting their day was being captured to be viewed over 80 years later on a website via a smartphone. Although most of these people are long gone, they never truly will be because of these images. At the end of the day, we'll all end up like them.

Anyone watching this during lockdown and getting nervous watching people gathered without masks? Oh how 2020 has altered my perception of socializing lol🙈
And the size of those bottles are tiny in comparison to today’s. Also this was a fair so most likely an ocasional treat. Most of there diet consisted of milk water and juice mix.
This is one part in there, where a white girl and black girl are sitting next to each other, laughing and joking eating apples, they appear to be clearly friends. I thought that was amazing.
At least black people were able to visit, although it would probably have been segregated. In the famous Chicago world's fair of 1893 they were not even allowed in. Slow progress...

That's the way I feel about graffiti in famous places like Winchester Cathedral.

Say the average age of those kids were 13. They would be 94 today (2020).
Queen Elizabeth the 2nd could be one of those girls, she's 94 now :D

Nothing Gold Can Stay, by Robert Frost
So close, yet so far at the same time...
My grandfather is dying. He is 94 years old. I can't stop thinking he could be one of those kids.
He died today.
I’m sorry for your lost
@Blythe Girl hi...still not
@Blythe Girl it would cost me too much, there's too many people I'd like to talk to LOL
@Blythe Girl since my grandfather passed away, my grandmother died too and my aunt 20 days later (may 2021). It was a really tough year
Just kids being kids, no matter that they'd be like 90/95 now
Most are probably dead.
10 years from now were back in the 30's all over again
Boxed and bagged lunch no fast food but a lot of soda lol
Also amazing how its all glass bottles ,paper and wax paper......plastic wasnt mainstream yet.

Wow! Splendid! Thanks for uploading!
OH WOW FANTASTIC! 80 YR AGO! IN FULL BRIGHT COLOR! FASCINATING WISH IT WAS LONGER!
Steven Cohn There are quite a few different 1939 World Fair videos here on UA-cam. Many are in full color! Amazing huh?!?

How many of these kids are still alive today? And how many of the teenagers made it through the war?
Most of them
Some of those vending stands look identical to the ones that are now at the US Open tennis complex that sit on the same grounds. I wonder if they’re the actual original ones…
These people would think we are all scumbags now. They're not wrong.
Fascinating! However, it’s unlikely more than a handful are alive today

It looks like nowadays. Only the clothing and haircut is different.
Американцы в 1939 году одежда, еда, как будто это в 1958 году.
В России до 1965 года такого не было.
1:09I like these children lol😂

What creeps me out is the thought of how many of those kids died in the war
Все с фастфудом... Жалко детей, жалко нацию!
Это электронные весы или кассовый аппарат на 2:35?
Plenty of overweighy kids then too it seems. I think it's because rich New York latched on to modern processed foods early.
Plot twist this was filmed a couple years ago they r just actors
A lot of Coca Cola was consumed.
Not the same Coca Cola that is consumed today..
Notice that too

where are all the cellphones?
So sad seeing this. A time where human beings only saw color.

What a deceiving title 😡😡, it should read: people in 1939 on Lunch Break 😳
Much of this footage looks like the 50's This Looks Just like the 1950's NOT The 30s??? Really???
Late thirties it's correct can tell the difference.
Putting the "color" in color home movies. Ew.
dont care for those people
Why? Do you know any of them? This is from a completely different era in time.
