Robert Francis (the doctor in this film) died the next year in 1955 when the single engine airplane he was piloting crashed immediately after takeoff when the engine stalled, coming down in an empty parking lot. Passengers, actress Ann Russell, 24, and George Meyer, 38, a commercial pilot also died. Francis got his start in acting in the 1954 movie "The Caine Mutiny" with Humphrey Bogart, and was considered one of Hollywood's up and coming actors. He was only 25.
When men were men... and women, real women ! Phil Carey, the epitome of virility. Nuff said. Great movie, watched it a zillion times but get never tired of it. Old is gold !
There's a very important message that all people need to realize in their hearts shown here in this old film. We are all human beings and should care about each other, THAT IS TOO OFTEN FORGOTTEN !
They didn't have woke DEI liberals diving people by color back in the 50's for political gains. After WWII you got tough quick or died, no matter what race you belonged to. Stupid was not rewarded , nor success punished as it is today.
Caine Mutiny- Ens Keith; Robert Charles Francis was an American actor. He appeared in only four Hollywood films, all with military themes, before his career and life were cut short at the age of 25 in the crash of a small airplane he was piloting. Born: February 26, 1930, Glendale, CA Died: July 31, 1955, Burbank, CA
What a great western classic movie! I sincerely and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks so much for uploading the forgotten western classic movies, they really are gold. Old is gold!
Love the movie ..Robert Francis played a doctor who was concerned about helping those in need of help..rather sad that he didn't quite reach his full potential as an actor or an aviator when he was killed in a plane crash at age 25
Life is so Precious...and Sad to see this Gifted Young Man Time was cut Short in his Prime. Great Show to watch and the cast played their Roles with Passion n the Human Traits of Power n Division .But Strength Integrity with Heart for others ..what ever the situation Will Overcome Life's Tough Battles🔥✊
I just watched Caine Mutiny with Robert Francis who plays the Doctor in this movie so shocked to learn he passed away at the age of twenty five. He was so young. I like Donna Reed, I didn't care for her replacing Barbara Bel Geddes as Miss Ellie on Dallas but it's just because I was so used to Barbara as Ellie from the very beginning.
Great movie and regardless of the low probability of malaria in the Western, it raises the doctor's responsibility to other human beings regardless of ethnic origin, whether they are Native Americans or White People. I think it also raises how medicine and science, in general, break down the barriers of hate and racism. A film that is from the fifties but is very current in the current context that is lived in the United States and the World today.
Started off slow, I thought it was going to be rather stale. But it suddenly blossomed into a damn good movie with a lot of heart and emotion. Donna Reed was gorgeous at that age.
This is a fun, and completely fictitious, flick. In the old west physicians, even bad ones, were always welcomed. And Army doctors were the best trained and prepared medicos of the era (and the post surgeon had the power of a general in all medical matters). Also, every cowboy-days community was serious about retrieving whites taken prisoner by any tribe (as John Wayne's "Searchers" illustrates). This script makes for an interesting movie, however. Reed is always flirty and fun. Thanks for posting.
A good movie I enjoyed watching it. It's hard to find a doctor/surgeon who's not only dedicated to his profession to cure and saves life but also a good samaritan nowadays, maybe there is but it will cost you your whole lifetime savings.
As much as i love these movies. As a veteran. We had to go downtown to find our entertainment. Just saying I'd have loved to have such ladies along on a deployment....and. as far as the military disapline displayed. Yeaah. Different times. Different ideas. Thats all i got to say
A great film, inspite of the different hurdles in life, the people endured, through the persistant of the doctor they were able to have a peaceful settlement in the end.
An awesome motion picture with excellent acting amid God's beautiful Simi Hills in California! The actual location footage took place on three ranches in the area not too far from the present-day Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
That was actually an excellent film. A young doctor - competent - comes out West and causes trouble shaking things up, but then ... It's too bad Robert Francis died so young. He appears to have gotten involved with a young wife and mother and aspiring actress, and they died together in a plane he was piloting.
Wonderful movie.....I really enjoyed every part of the acting and scenery.....BTW...did any one else notice the truck track behind the surgeon when he was taking to the colonel and captain at the gate???
Jack Kelly! What a charmer and not in near enough movies. "The man should have been a Major Star", and proved it later. *"a Major. Miss by the Studio's and Hollywood"*
They did do the shoulder straps good, however the pants of Calvary Officers were 1/2 inch wide. The stripe on It. Seward's pants are for enlisted ranks from privates through thoughts sergeant. The 1851 officers belt plate is correct for officers, however the silver leaf was only worn by Colonels and Generals. A brass type was for Lieutenants through Majors. Also Sergeant Major was in charge of the commanders staff, they were rarely out of the office unless ordered by the Commanding Officer or in his company. First Sergeants were the highest ranking non-commission officer per field companies. Also no doctor on the field would have questioned a field company commander in the field. This act were punished by a report that would cripple the doctor's military career. It is however an entertaining movie much better than most of our modern movies. Please stay happy and healthy during this pandemic.
@@robertreisner6119 .. I disagree. Doctors have always been their own command. The way he was treated upon arrival was not good and it sure is not a good idea to get on the wrong side of the medic.
Chief Quanah played by John War Eagle. Eagle had a film career playing native Americans, but of course, like so many other film 'Indians', he was 100% Caucasian - born in Leicestershire, England. Robert Francis, playing Lt. Seward, was killed in 1955, at age 25, when a small plane he was piloting crashed. He & May Wynn were also together in The Caine Mutiny. Philip Carey had a busy film & TV acting career. He had the looks and acting ability but lacked that certain something that could have propelled him into major stardom.
She ended up getting married to Jack Kelly, one of her co-stars in this film. She'd previously appeared with another co-star, Robert Francis, in The Caine Mutiny.

One of my favorite "heavies", he was also in "Day The Earth Stood Still"- the Lt. is Harry Lauter (noncredited). "Tales of the Texas Rangers" ('Clay Morgan', TV Series 1955-1959), was his one and only starring role as a good guy, usually cast as a light heavy on the wrong side of the law, he and Myron Healy cut from the same cloth.

A great, touching movie. It's beautiful to see how love and kindness should trascend boundaries of prejudice. We're all human!

Really? Matter of opinion….. a lot of very good actors these days. Many of these old movies, which I’m enjoying, are very amateur & hick….😊

Just spread oil on the water, that will take care of those mosquitos , The malaria , also the Indians drinking water.
Ooops.
The movie starts out with a kamikaze Indian , single-handedly, attempt to take on an entire patrol with a knife. I wouldn’t say it started slow.

Why are desert forts in old B movies always surrounded by wooden palisades or concrete walls? Real ones had neither.
