Merlin gave four of the petrified villain kids detention, except for Morgie who probably escaped punishment or Merlin possibly punished Morgie for his involvement with Uliana to steal the book by forcing him to do community service since he was spared from being petrified by the sorcerer's cookbook.
I'm unsatisfied with this scene... because even without the interference of RED and CHLOE... Uliana will use her tentacles to reach the book, the owl will still send the message to Professor Merlin, the book itself is enchanted so, the moment the VK's open the book they will freeze until Merlin came and whole month of detention will be given right there, and Merlin will now keep the book further away from the eyes of Uliana... So, in the original timeline SOMEONE else PRANK Bridget in the Castlecoming Dance but we see in the movie that the interference of RED and CHLOE made the Queen of Red Hearts turned back to Queen Bridget, herself but the end of that movie says that there was a message of a lapse of breaking the timeline. I was thinking that maybe Red needs to come back in the past to make the history right again. That was just my coin theory.
Well, from the movie, no one else was coming for Bridget except Uliana and her gang. They were the only ones who had the motive to pull a prank on her. But your theory had a point because if Uliana and her crew remain stuck in detention even when Castlecoming is happening, who could possibly set Bridget up so bad she turns to an evil queen? BUT if Uliana manages to find a way to make her plans successful, why would the present Queen of Hearts be EVIL to everybody. If it's Uliana's fault, wouldn't it be logical for the queen to strongly go after her and the crew? Something messy definitely happened in the past.
I also noticed that in the present timeline (especially in the Love Ain't It number) they didn't really mention WHO pulled the prank on her?? They literally told their past and everything that had happened but no mention of the guilty? That's something they need to answer in the next movie!

Another explanation would be that if red and chole hadn't been there to find the book that maybe only one of them could've opened it and got frozen leaving the other vks to grab the book and escape. Red and Chloe have beaten Uliana at her own game. When Uliana tried to read the sorcerer cookbook, both she and her friends (sans Morgie) were petrified due to their bad nature. Chloe reminded Red that she still has goodness inside her and she stood up to Uliana for the sake of her mother. Chloe also learned that good deeds are rewarded by working hard and helping others, it's not by doing something your good at, she sacrificed her modern glass shoes to prevent the owl from alerting Merlin. Uliana, Maleficent, Hades, and Hook ended up being punished by Merlin for supposedly trashing his office. I'm pretty sure that Merlin has also punished Morgie since he was spared from the book's petrification spell and Merlin probably forced Morgie to clean his office as punishment for aiding Uliana to steal the book without his consent.
Before Teen Fay is Fairy Godmother are sent Uliana and her Sisters, Ursula and Morgana, Hades, Maleficent, Captain Hook and Morgie and his mother, Morgana Le Fay into the Isle of the Lost
And in the end, Merlin wins the Wizard’s Duel at the Merlin Academy, and the Students will applauses cheering to their Principal, because we know that Merlin is the Principal and Founder of the School and he’s the Most Powerful Wizard ever

He opened the book but the book didn’t find him to do it for bad intentions more so of “love” for uliana which is a low chance but not 0 2. He made a non-evil person do it for him he’s the son of Morgana le fay after all he should have numerous powers along with mind control and spell casting
