  • Here's an introduction to the Kua, based on my own experience. Hopefully there will be more videos to come on this subject because opening the internal aspects of the hips, is very helpful to relieve tension around the kidneys, sexual organs and the lower back.
The video that I referenced in the video, can be found here:

I find this BASIC explaination is very important for beginners. Most teachers do not tell you this. Thank you for all your effort of explaining these basics.👍👍👍

You make it flow so easily and effortlessly - a really good video to help explain and demonstrate how we, the less flexible and knowledgable people, can try to get it right. Excellent.

Many thanks Sir, I like your summary of body as a collection of parts among which energy flows. Isn´t it related to fascial operation of the body whicand getting the rinternal fluid the resin to flow. I do remamber thet thre first signs of getting cold was the pains in that are, along the so called bikiny line. Good health, Paul,68.

first of all thank you for your video and your work you put into the video. I think you try to point out 落胯 luo kua (dropping the kua) and not open and closing it which is totally cool and just a term. I would only like to add two things to the topic which is important from my point of view for other beginners. Try to lower your kua without bending your knees so the focus can still be on the kua. 2nd Try not to shift the weight the moment the the foot touches the ground , try to shift the weight the moment the foot in not on the ground . Some call it 双重 shuang zhong, you try to put double weight on the empty side ,so you are not just standing more stable you will create a strong heavy force . Anyway good video and if i would not like it I would not comment on it. But my thump goes up for this video!

Thanks for your comment. I agree. I think beginners need to feel the knees bend to feel the connection with the tailbone and lower back. Then they can understand that they don’t need to bend the knees. The little drill, I believe ( one can’t fit much content in a UA-cam video) has a pretty clear separation between placing the foot and shifting the weight in the horizontal movements. I usually go on and on when I teach this but sometimes details need to be saved for laters as people only absorb a bit at a time. But thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment. Master Liu has been my primary teacher this last 5 years and he has changed everything.

But what does it mean to soften? Is it the same as relax? Someone says to you: relax your shoulders and you do and you realize you were holding your shoulders up. That's one thing. But to soften your shoulders? Same thing? Or is soften more of an imaginary action that manifests physically?

Hi, to soften your body demands a quality of attention. Yes it means relax. Sometimes I say “gently relax…” but we don’t want to just go through the motions. If you bother to ask “what does it it mean to soften my shoulders?” and you have to look deeply inside to figure out if your shoulders are softer.
